Looking at My Own Attachments While Sending Forth Righteous Thoughts to Rescue a Fellow Practitioner By Jingsi, a practitioner from Liaoning Province
(Clearwisdom.net) A practitioner I know is good at computer technology
and has been doing technical work for Dafa. In the past several years, he played
a very important role in helping set up local truth-clarification material
production sites. He used software to break through the Internet blockage so he
could download truth-clarification materials from websites blocked by the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He did well in clarifying the truth,
saving people, and validating the Fa. Gradually, other practitioners
and I came to depend on him heavily. At the time, we didn't realize that our
actions were not within the Fa. What we did deviated from the Fa, and we let our
attachments grow. When there were any problems with our equipment, we seldomly
looked at the problems from the perspective of our xinxing
and cultivation state. We treated the issue purely from a technical perspective
and asked for his help even for very small problems. As we built more and more
material sites, he got busier and busier and became exhausted physically and
mentally. He had less time to study the Fa, too. Eventually, he was arrested by
the police. When I first heard the news, I was very sad. On the one hand, I resented the
policemen's malicious actions. (I should get rid of the resentment mentality
since the police should also be saved.) On the other hand, I felt sad for the
practitioner. Since it already happened, what should we do? I live far from this
practitioner, and I'm not very familiar with the situation there, so it was not
feasible for me to go clarify the truth and request his release. What I could do
to help the practitioner was to send forth righteous thoughts and eliminate the
evil factors that persecute practitioners. We needed to rescue the practitioner
as soon as possible to lessen the damage to that area's truth clarification
effort. So I notified other practitioners about this and stressed to them the
importance of getting the practitioner out. (Since the practitioner was doing
technical work, he mostly worked with practitioners at material sites and didn't
work much with other practitioners. Most practitioners didn't know him very
well.) We sent forth righteous thoughts for this practitioner for quite some
time, but he was still detained. I was quite worried. Other practitioners also
kept asking about his condition. The more other practitioners asked about him,
the worse I felt. What was the matter? How come sending forth righteous thoughts
didn't work? It must be due to the attachments that other practitioners and I
still have. Our attachments affected the rescue of the practitioner. The
attachments probably increased the difficulty for the practitioner and created a
roadblock for him. The old forces took advantage of our gap. I opened Teacher's lecture Teaching the Fa at the 2004 Western U.S. Fa
Conference. In it, Teacher said: "A single human thought can become an obstacle that hinders your
improvement. That's why there's a saying in cultivation, 'Have the desire to
cultivate, without the desire to obtain gong.' You can cultivate but you can't
be attached. When you have no human desires and aren't attached to anything,
you'll cultivate quickly, improve quickly, and have fewer ordeals. Whenever
you have attachments your cultivation will be slow." Teacher's lecture opened my mind. Referring to Teacher's Fa and looking
inward, my confusion went away and I had a deeper understanding. I realized that
sending forth righteous thoughts to rescue fellow practitioners itself is a
process of cultivating and elevating as one body. The rescue effort ran into
roadblocks because our improvement as a whole had problems. The reason our
improvement was stalled was due to our human notions--our reliance on other
practitioners and our attachment to technology. Our righteous thoughts are
powerful. But in order to disintegrate the evil, eliminate the old forces and
meddling deities, and get rid of evil factors' interference to Fa-rectification
and their persecution of practitioners, we need to be in a right state of mind
when we send forth righteous thoughts. We need to have a clear understanding of
the Fa, a pure mind, and the "do but not pursue" mentality. Teacher
told us in "Learning the Fa" in Essentials for Further Advancement:
"Keep in mind: One should gain things naturally without pursuing
them." Our understanding should be based on Fa. The reason why a practitioners can
play an important role in saving people and validating the Fa is due to the
power of Dafa, not himself. Practitioners are validating the Fa, not Dafa
validating practitioners. Our every thought and every idea should be on the Fa.
Only then can we have the right attitude towards technical practitioners, only
then would we not form the ordinary people's mentality of depending on others,
which deviates from the Fa. Teacher said in "Abandon Human Attachments and Continue True
Cultivation" in Essentials for Further Advancement: "Anyone who comes to study the Fa--no matter how learned he is, how
big his business, how high his rank, what special skills he has, or what
supernormal abilities he possesses--must actually practice cultivation.
Cultivation practice is magnificent and solemn. Whether you can abandon your
particular human notions is a major test that you will have difficulty
passing, yet you must pass. After all, as a disciple truly practicing
cultivation, you must abandon these attachments since you can never reach
Consummation without abandoning these notions." Looking back at myself, I had the attachment of depending on the other
practitioner from the very beginning. The mentality of depending on others was
my attachment. Why did I depend on him? I depended on him for his technical
skills. What was I attached to? I was attached to his importance to the local
truth clarification effort. The old forces are trying to take advantage of our
attachments. They tried to make us focus on technical practitioners' technical
skills. They also tried to magnify our attachment to this practitioner. All
these led to the practitioner's arrest. After his arrest, what was my first
thought when I sent forth righteous thoughts to rescue him? My thought was to
stress to other practitioners the importance of rescuing this practitioner. My
thought of stressing the importance intensified my attachment. In other
dimensions, the evil old forces saw our intensified attachment and took
advantage of our gap. They used our attachment as an excuse for the persecution.
The old forces cannot use the fact that some practitioners are good at technical
skills as an excuse for persecution. They didn't dare to persecute practitioners
based on this. They could only use our intensified human notions to persecute
practitioners. Our human notions and attachments were used by the old forces to
intensify the fellow practitioner's tribulation. The old forces instigated the
practitioner's arrest. Teacher said in "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in
Philadelphia, U.S.A.": "As I've said, everything that happens today in
the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts." The evil was able to carry out the persecution of the practitioner as a
result of our attachment to depending on technical practitioners. Human
sentimentality also contributed to the persecution. Since the practitioner's
arrest, although we continued to send forth righteous thoughts, our strong
attachments formed a barrier against our righteous thoughts, which slowed down
the whole area's improvement. As a result, we couldn't form a strong energy
field to dismantle the evil factors and eliminate all the evil. This aggravated
our fellow practitioner's tribulation. I put my understanding into action so we could improve as one body. When I
sent forth righteous thoughts again, I first eliminated my attachment. I then
sent forth powerful thoughts to completely dismantle the evil factors in other
dimensions. I also asked for Teacher's help. The practitioner quickly left the
place of detention with dignity and returned to the path of assisting teacher in
Fa-rectification and saving sentient beings. The above is my personal understanding. Please kindly correct me if you find
