(Clearwisdom.net) Before the May 1, 2007 holiday in China, police officers in Daqing City arrested several practitioners. On April 25, 2007, practitioner Ms. Liu Bo was deceived and then arrested at her home by a group of police officers from the Longnan Police Department. Police officers fabricated evidence and extorted a confession from Ms. Liu by using torture methods. They tied her to a metal chair and deprived her of sleep for 36 hours. Ms. Liu is now illegally locked up in a detention center.

Thirty eight members of Ms. Liu Bo's family, who are very angry about Ms. Liu's unjust treatment, recently issued a joint appeal to the related justice department. They believe that Ms. Liu Bo is innocent and should be allowed to practice Falun Gong, and should therefore be set free immediately and unconditionally. They are demanding that authorities pay for any losses suffered by Liu Bo and her family. Below is an excerpt from their letter of joint appeal.

Facts:

Ms. Liu was born in Jilin in February of 1957. She previously worked at the Daqing City Water Company. Because she practices Falun Gong, her employer gave her some money and asked her to leave. At around 11:40 a.m. on April 25, 2007, while she was at home cooking for her mother-in-law who is almost eighty years old, section head Feng and police officers Sun and Li from the Longnan Police Department suddenly broke into her home. They wanted Ms. Liu to go to the police station to answer some questions and said that it wouldn't take long. Ms. Liu believed them and went with them.

However, she did not return before the night fell. Her family members became worried, so they went to the police office to determine her whereabouts. The police refused to grant them a visit, which made them feel even more suspicious. So they forced their way in and saw that police had tied Ms. Liu to a metal chair in attempts to extort a confession from her. One police officer held a piece of paper in his hand, saying that it was evidence from Liu Yanxia of Zhaoyuan County. The paper read, "Liu Yanxia's printer was from Liu Bo." Even if this were true, this does not constitute breaking the law, yet the police used it to persecute Liu Bo. We then went immediately to Zhaoyuan County and found out that Liu Yanxia was still at home and hadn't been detained at all. Apparently, the police had fabricated evidence to frame Liu Bo.

At the Longnan Police Department, Liu Bo was tortured with the iron chair method for 36 hours and was deprived of sleep. Police officers took turns tormenting her until midnight of the following day. She was then sent to the Daqing No. 1 Detention Center. Further details are not yet known.

When we demanded an explanation, the police said that Ms. Liu was "against the Chinese Communist Party." This was a trumped up charge! Before she practiced Falun Gong, Ms. Liu had broken six ribs in a severe car accident, and she often fainted due to dizziness. She also suffered from high blood pressure and heart disease. It was difficult for her to go to work and take care of herself. After she started cultivating Falun Gong in 1996, she soon recovered completely and worked diligently at her workplace. She was awarded the title of "advanced worker" many times. The team she led also received the titles of "women's team model" or "individual model." All of her colleagues, neighbors and relatives regarded her as a good person who always considered others first.

Liu Bo learned Falun Gong to improve her health. She follows the teachings of Falun Gong to cultivate her moral character and always thinks of others first. At home, she respects and looks after the elderly. Practicing Falun Gong is a personal belief and freedom of belief is guaranteed by the Chinese Constitution. Besides, not a single law in China states that practicing Falun Gong is illegal - so why are the police allowed to arrest and persecute good citizens arbitrarily?

We hereby request that the judges and prosecutors look into this case based on facts and the law, especially the criminal law of our nation. We believe that the Longnan Branch of the Daqing City Police Department's Criminal Police Division, including division head Yao, section head Feng, and police officers Sun and Li have committed the following crimes toward Liu Bo: Illegal detention, fabricating evidence, extorting a confession with torture and violence, maltreatment of the detainee, abuse of power, and more. We seek justice and demand the immediate and unconditional release of Liu Bo. We also demand compensation of all losses incurred to Liu Bo and her family. Liu Bo has not broken any law of our country, so it is illegal to persecute her for even a second. We will not allow this kind of thing to take place, yet it has already lasted for fifteen days. We will not give up until all of the perpetrators are brought to justice.
