Non-Practitioner: The Persecution of Lian Baochang's Family in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province By an employee from the Qinhuangdao Port Group CO., LTD

Before the persecution started in 1999, there were over a dozen people in our
work unit who practiced Falun Gong. Lian Baochang was one of them. Because he
was persecuted more than other people, everyone in the work unit knew about his
case. Before practicing Falun Gong, Lian Baochang was not healthy. He had heart
disease, stomachaches, cystitis, and felt light in the head. After practicing
Falun Gong, he seemed to become another person. He was in ruddy good health and
energetic all day long. He became kinder and would do whatever anyone asked. He
worked hard and willingly did whatever work his supervisor assigned him. In 1999, the authorities began to persecute Falun Gong. The police station,
the local residential office, and the 610 Office harassed and
threatened Lian Baochang, one after another. In order to demand justice for Falun Gong, Lian Baochang went to Beijing to
appeal. The entire work unit was busy: Liu Shunxi, the director of Qingang 610
Office; Li Junyi, the Party secretary of the Rail Road Transportation; Chang
Yinxiang, the manager; and Li Liang, the security section lead discussed how to
persecute Lian Baochang. They deducted his bonus and would not give him his
salary. Then they illegally detained him for one month. A while ago, the work unit had some legal education sessions. When the law
instructor talked about "the constitution says that its citizens have
freedom of belief, speech, press, and assembly," someone raised a question,
"Is this law a real one?" The instructor said, "Of course."
Another person asked, "If it is real, why doesn't the country follow the
law? Is it for decoration like a picture?" The instructor asked, "Why
do you say that the country does not follow the law?" The person continued,
"Lian Baochang practices Falun Gong. However, Falun Gong is being
persecuted. He went to appeal for Falun Gong. He was detained." The
instructor said, "The country has banned Falun Gong." Someone said,
"Everyone knows that after practicing Falun Gong he became better than a
role model at work. Even his leaders know that. Why do they say Falun Gong is
not good? Where is justice? Why do you give such legal education? Who do you
want to fool?" In 2001, the CCTV program "News Focus" broadcast a video smearing
Falun Gong in the so-called, "Tiananmen Self-immolation Incident." The
work unit and the 610 Office then spoke to Lian Baochang. Their goal was to find
an excuse to further persecute him. One person asked him a question, "Why
did people commit self-immolation after practicing Falun Gong?" Lian
Baochang asked Li Liang, "Which part of the body gets burned first if there
is fire on the body?" Li Liang answered, "The clothes." Lian
said, "Wrong. It is the hair and the eyebrows that will catch fire first.
However, the big fire did not burn Wang Jindong's face. Instead, his clothes
were burned and his hair was not burned at all. Do you think his hair was made
of steel wire? Isn't this a trick?" They did not know what to say. However,
they did not give up their effort to persecute Mr. Lian. Li Junyi and Li Liang
held up Lian Baochang's salary and bonus. They prepared some written materials
to persecute him again. Lian Baochang's wife also practices Falun Gong. Since she did not want to
give up the practice, she was first forced to leave her work unit by Wang Ke
from Daonan Police Station and a city hospital secretary whose last name is
Yang. She was then sent to Tangshan Kaiping Forced Labor Camp for illegal
detention. At home, they had a young child. At the same time, Liu Xuechang from
Qingang 610 Office, Liu Shunxi, and the city's 610 Office set up a brainwashing
center in Qingang. Lian Baochang was the first person to be sent there. In the brainwashing center, Lian Baochang was threatened and intimidated by
Lin Xinfeng (who was promoted to become a deputy section leader due to his
efforts in persecuting Falun Gong) and other police. Later on, it was said that
these people used all kinds of cruel methods to try to force Lian Baochang to
change his mind, but it was in vain. Then they deceived him by saying that they
were taking him to see his wife, when they actually planned to send him to a
forced labor camp. Thereafter, Mr. Lian was forced to leave home and became
destitute. From my knowledge, Liu Shunxi read Falun Gong books in 1998. Li Junyi also
practiced Falun Gong before the persecution began. They all know very clearly
what Falun Gong is. After the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong began, they knew
that it was a good chance for them to grab some political favors. They knew that
practitioners would not retaliate since they follow the principles of Truth,
Compassion and Forbearance. These people actively participated in the
persecution. Lian Baochang was homeless for over three years. His economic loss was over
one hundred thousand yuan. When he left home, his wife was still in the forced
labor camp. They had a middle school boy left at home. The boy had no economic
support. His parents could not take care of him. Distraught because her daughter-in-law had been sent to a forced labor camp
and she did not know her son's whereabouts, Lian Baochang's mother became ill
and could not get out of bed. In order to take credit for finding Lian Baochang,
Liu Shunxi threatened the old lady to find out just where Lian Baochang was. The
old lady could not bear the threats and soon died. From what a friend told me,
when his mother was dying, she kept calling Lian Baochang's nickname. Her voice
was very sad. Everyone was moved when they heard that. In 2004, Lian Baochang came back to work. However, after he was back for a
year, he was framed by Lu Ping from the Qinhuangdao City National Security Team.
Lu Ping wanted to shove the responsibility of two practitioners being persecuted
to death in the Meichang District onto Lian Baochang. In order to do this, Lu
Ping colluded with the Qingang Police Station officers to arrest Lian Baochang.
With no other choice, Lian Baochang was forced to leave home and became homeless
again. No one knows his whereabouts. His wife does not have a job after being released from the forced labor camp.
Their child is growing older and they need money to live. Sometimes I have thought to myself, "Isn't that because Lian Baochang
practices Falun Gong and firmly believes in Falun Gong?" Under the CCP
regime, materialism reigns. The so-called leaders will do whatever they can get
away with. During one celebration at the Rail Road Company, they even invited
some young girls to dance with the leaders. Each one of them was paid highly. In
the branch companies within the Port Group, a lot of people got promotions by
paying money. No matter whether it is corruption or bribery, everyone of those
leaders is qualified to be sent to prison. Li Junyi, Chang Yinxiang, and other
people once had a banquet that cost over three thousand yuan. The CCP lacks virtue. It uses despicable methods to persecute Falun Gong. No
wonder there is a popular saying, " Heaven is eliminating the CCP." Constant
disasters are happening in China. Many experts have forecast large scale
pestilence. It seems that all these are for the sake of eliminating the CCP. Therefore I want to tell my fellow countrymen this: Please become wiser and
quickly learn more about Falun Gong. Withdraw from the CCP and its subsidiary
organizations. It's very important to save your life and your family members'
