Practitioner Zhou Shuhai Dies As a Result of Torture and Abuse at Daqing City Prison (Heilongjiang Province) - His Remains Have been Cremated

June 30, 2007 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Zhou Shuhai's remains were cremated on June 4, 2007. He died as a result of persecution at the Daqing Prison. Zhou Shuhai was sentenced to five and one-half years of imprisonment. He was first sent to Hulan Prison and later transferred to Daqing Prison. He died on May 31, 2007.

Mr. Zhou Shuhai worked at Yichun City Governmental Institute. He was healthy, kind and diligent. He was reported to police for attending a Fa conference held by practitioners from Tieli City. In October, 2005, he was arrested by Tieli City Police Bureau at Yichun City Financial Studies Center. He was later physically and mentally persecuted. In April, 2006, he was sentenced to five and one-half years of imprisonment by the Yichun City Intermediate Court. In June, he was sent to the intensive training team in Hulan Prison. He was brutally beaten by prisoner Zheng Taiping. His back was beaten, and he was hung up and forced to stand for a long time. The tortures were used in attempts to "transform" him. In August, he was transferred to the Fourth Ward of Daqing Prison.

In late 2006, Mr. Zhou's family members were informed that he was seriously ill and they could come to visit him. At the time, Zhou Shuhai had to be carried to the visitation room. He was terribly thin. His sister went to talk to the authorities in Daqing Prison and asked for his release due to his poor health. Her request was refused. The CCP officials said, "How can Falun Gong (practitioners) be released?"

On May 1, 2007, his family members were informed that his health was very bad. The prison asked them to pay for treatments. Zhou's family members did not give them any money. On May 27, his sister and brother-in-law went to the prison and again asked for his release. Three days later, on May 31, 2007, his family members got a call saying, "the person is dead."

Further details will be investigated.
