A Practitioner Reflects on Attachments to Complacency and Selfishness

(Clearwisdom.net) In our cultivation practice, we often seem to do Dafa work well according to Teacher's instructions. When other practitioners say we're doing well and we also think we're doing well, is there an attachment behind our thought? I will give several examples.

A practitioner reported that many Falun Gong flyers and slogans appeared in a certain area. Instead of seeing this as an outcome of the progression of Fa rectification, I immediately thought, "Were the flyers in the layout I provided? What a great job I did!"

An acquaintance of mine said he'd received a phone call asking him to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). I immediately thought, "Was that the phone number I provided to Minghui?"

After I had clarified the truth to an old friend, he finally quite the CCP. I felt relieved. I was happy for my friend, but even happier for myself. I thought, "He will be saved in the future because of me. He will be so grateful to me!"

When my article was published on minghui.ca (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net), I was excited: "Other practitioners will improve after reading my article. So many people will read my article. It will have a great effect!"

In the summer, several students came to my house to enroll in supplementary lessons. I prepared ice milk for them in advance. When I was making the milk, a thought emerged, "This powdered milk will expire soon. I need to finish it soon so I won't waste it."

My husband made a mistake and I couldn't let go of it. I thought of Dafa and got over it several days later. On the surface, I treated him as before, but in my mind, I thought, "I must save him. He did me wrong. I want him to regret the day he sees me reach consummation!"

The above experiences came from attachments of selfishness, complacency, and wanting to validate myself. We practice Dafa and eventually seek to become selfless and altruistic. Although these attachments may sometimes flash by in a split second, we shouldn't ignore them and let them be. We must progress more diligently as Fa rectification approaches the end.
