Mr. Li Zhengling Left Blind Due to Persecution at Deyang Prison in Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Li Zhengling, a 42-year-old practitioner from Luzhou City, Gulin County, Sichuan Province, was sentenced to five years in prison in June 2004. He was sent to Deyang Prison in Sichuan Province, and the guards there tortured him to the point where he became blind in his right eye (his left eye had been damaged previously.) In April 2006, prison authorities notified his family that he was critically ill, but they did not allow his family to take him home.

After receiving notice of Mr. Li's illness, his wife Ms. Hong Shiping and his sister-in-law Ms. Qiu Jufen rushed to Deyang City and found that he had been hospitalized. Mr. Li had been force-fed, and his mouth, face, and nose had been seriously injured in the process. A feeding tube prevented him from speaking clearly. His family was permitted to see him for only half an hour, and they were not allowed to take him from the hospital.

On April 6, 2007, Mr. Li's family received a short letter that had been written by someone from the camp, dated March 26. Since then, there has been no further news, and his family is extremely worried.

On December 27, 2004, Zhou Qiang (male), Director of the State Security Division of Gulin County, illegally arrested Mr. Li and sent him to the Gulin County Detention Center for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. He was subsequently tortured to the point where he became blind in his left eye. He was examined in the Gulin County Hospital. Based on the diagnosis, he qualified for medical release. The 610 Office, however, not only failed to submit the paperwork for his release, but sentenced him to five years in prison in addition to the six months of detention he had already served. He was held at Deyang Prison despite the fact that he was blind in one eye, walking with difficulty, and unable to properly care for himself.

Mr. Li was a victim of the persecution several years earlier. On October 26, 1999, he was practicing the Falun Gong exercises with more than 300 practitioners on a bridge between Sichuan and Guizhou Provinces. He was arrested by the Xishui County Police. On October 29, he was sentenced to three years in a labor camp. He was held at the Qingzhen City Labor Camp, where the guards subjected him to a variety of tortures, such as confinement in a "small cell," high intensity labor, being forced to stand for long periods of time, suspension in mid-air, beatings, and shocks with electric batons. Mr. Li firmly persisted in his cultivation and refused to give up his belief. Although his health was extremely poor due to the tortures he suffered, the authorities still detained him for three months beyond his original sentence.

Local practitioners, please do what you can to rescue Mr. Li. We also call on residents of Luzhou City to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
