Illegal Trial Held for Practitioner Hu Xinzheng of Henan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Hu Xinzheng was arrested in March 2007 and subjected to an illegal trial in the Chuanhui District Court in Zhoukou City, Henan Province on the morning of June 28, 2007.

Mr. Hu Xinzheng, 55, is a resident of 50 Hehua Street in the Chuanhui District of Zhoukou City. His 86-year-old mother and handicapped brother, in his 60s, both rely on his monthly 100 yuan insurance premium and his income from a small bookstall. The family's financial condition is poor.

On March 6, 2007, Mr. Hu was reported to the authorities and arrested. Participating in the arrest were police officers Gao Feng and Xu Hongzhi from the Shanan District Police Department and deputy chief Zhu Guangqiang from the Fangzhi Street Police Station. The officers also ransacked Mr. Hu's home. Mr. Hu was held at the Zhoukou City Detention Center.

At 9:50 a.m. on June 28, 2007, Mr. Hu's neighbors received a phone call from the Chuanhui District Court. The court informed them of Mr. Hu's trial that morning. The neighbors asked why they were informed at the last minute. The court agent replied impatiently, "If you want to come, then come; otherwise don't come," and hung up.

Mr. Hu's family asked a friend to ask the attorney's office to make court inquiries. They discovered that his trial was held in the Juvenile Court section of the Chuanhui District Court. The attorney was puzzled: why hold a trial for a 55-year-old in Juvenile Court? When the attorney asked about the verdict, the court said it was a heavy penalty. They also said that for Falun Gong cases, the actual decision maker is the Political and Judiciary Committee, not the court.

Mr. Hu's family still does not know the verdict. His imprisonment and the disruption his source of income inflicts additional hardship on the already struggling family.
