The Illegal Prosecution of a Practitioner's Relative in Hebei Province By a practitioner in China
(Clearwisdom.net) On April 29, 2007, under tremendous pressure from the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) central government, Shenze County Police
Department in Hebei Province launched yet another round of persecution against
Falun Dafa practitioners in the county. Many practitioners were illegally
arrested. Practitioners' homes were ransacked, and truth
clarification material production sites were damaged. Quite a number of
practitioners were forced to leave their homes to avoid further persecution.
Even practitioners' family members who do not practice Falun Gong were
persecuted. On April 30, 2007, the deputy chief of Shenze County Police Department, Yuan
Junfeng, along with four police cars full of officers, went to Zhang Chaofeng's
home in Xiaobao Village, Zhongbaizhuang Township. Zhang Chaofeng does not
practice Falun Gong, but he is the son-in-law of a practitioner. Finding no one
at home, the police climbed over the fence and broke into Zhang Chaofeng's
house. They ransacked the house and found a printer that Zhang Chaofeng had just
bought and some picture framing supplies. While this was happening, Zhang was
working at the brick mill. Police contacted him at work and informed him that he
needed to go to the police station so his permanent resident registration could
be checked. He was tricked into going to the police station and has been
illegally held at the Xinji City Detention Center since that time. People were
puzzled because Zhang Chaofeng did not practice Falun Gong. Why, then, was he
arrested and his home searched? Later they learned what happened. Zhang Chaofeng had just had a new house
built and owed a great deal of money. He wanted to find a way to earn some
money. He decided to open a print shop so he bought a printer. He hadn't started
the business yet. Since he knew how to do silk-screen printing, and he likes
doing print jobs for people, he helped someone make some hanging artwork with
several poems printed on fabric. The poems, such as "An Upright
Person" and "Abiding in the Dao," are from a Dafa book called
Hong Yin. The poems teach people to reach a higher moral
standard and be good people. Because of this, someone reported him to the
police, and he was arrested. Zhang Chaofeng was just trying to make some money,
as the person who requested the hanging artwork agreed to pay him for the
service. Now the police and justice departments of Shenze County have planned to
prosecute Zhang Chaofeng for "utilizing illegal religious organizations to
undermine the implementation of the law." When his family learned of this,
they contacted several lawyers. The head of the local courthouse, Jia Guilong,
pressured the lawyers and tried to prevent them from taking the case. The trial
was supposed to begin after July 2. According to the lawyer, "This case is
quite ridiculous because the police and justice departments are trying to
connect it to Falun Gong even though the defendant is not a practitioner." Zhang Chaofeng is 37 years old. He has aging parents and a young child that
he needs to support. About two years ago, he was involved in two car accidents,
which left him disabled. He is missing part of his skull, and he has severe
health problems as a result of the head injury. He is quite debilitated even
today. Yet the CCP government will not let this disabled person go even though
he didn't do anything wrong. His family members have tried to talk to staff in
the police and justice departments who are handling his case. The staff members
pointed fingers at each other. Somebody even said, "If it was theft or
robbery, it would be easier for us to bend the rules." What kind of society
is this? Is this what the CCP calls a "harmonious society?"?\ Zhang Chaofeng's parents and wife went to the county government many times to
appeal for him. Yet all they got was an indictment letter. It reportedly took
only three days to move Zhang Chaofeng's case from the police department to the
procuratorate and the courthouse. It seems that the local
authorities are trying to carelessly close the case so they can report their
"accomplishment" to the central government. Shenze County Police Department Main Office: 86-311-83524910, 86-311-83522122 Posting date: 7/21/2007
