Ms. Li Xianhua Is Unlawfully Sentenced and Mr. Hu Chougai's Prison Term Extended in Chenxi, Hunan Province


(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Xianhua, in her fifties, is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Xiaoping Town in Chenxi, Hunan Province. In April 2007, she was sentenced to three years of imprisonment by the local police department, the Procuratorate, and the local court. She has been transferred to the Changsha City Women's Prison.

Ms. Li Xianhua was arrested in a fellow practitioner's home when she was attending an experience-sharing meeting on July 13, 2006. She was detained in the county detention center. In the detention center, Ms. Li refused to wear the prison uniform and persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises. The dentition center head, Liu Qiliang (male), instructed the guards to beat her and put ten-pound shackles on her.

Mr. Hu Chougai is in his forties. In March 2004, he was reported for distributing truth-clarification materials. He was later sentenced to two years of imprisonment. In September 2004, he was sent to Wuling Prison in Changde City. His prison term has expired, yet he is still detained.

A few days ago, Mr. Hu's family members went to the prison to see him. When the prison guards learned that they wanted to visit a Falun Gong practitioner, they were very rude. Only after all the others finished their visits were Mr. Hu's family members allowed to see him. When they saw him, he was wearing winter clothes even though it was summer. When asked why, Mr. Hu confessed in a low voice that the inmates often beat him and wearing thick clothes reduced the pain during the beatings. His family members asked the prison guards why the prison did not release him after his term ended. During the previous visit, the prison guard had said that he would be released whenever the Chenxi Police Department approved it. This time, the prison guard said that Mr. Hu Chougai was sentenced to three and a half years, and his jail term would not be completed until September.
