Father and Daughter from Shandong Province Escape Illegal Detention but Cannot Return Home

(Clearwisdom.net) Practitioners Mr. Miao Shubao and his daughter Miao Chunyan are from Yantai City, Shandong Province. In April 2007, they were illegally arrested and held by local police. They were able to escape detention, but in order to avoid further persecution, they cannot return home. Their family members have been harassed and subjected to extortion by local police.

On the evening of April 10, 2007, Mr. Miao Shubao went out to post truth-clarification posters. Police officers from Xidajie Police Station in Yantai City arrested him. With the help of his daughter, son-in-law and other relatives and friends, Mr. Miao's wife went to the police station to demand his release. His daughter, Ms. Miao Chunyan, told the police the truth about Dafa, but they refused to listen and detained her.

Afterwards, Gao Xiu from the 610 Office and several policemen ordered staff of the Neighborhood Administration Committee to go with them to search the homes of Miao Shubao, Miao Chunyan and Miao Chunyan's mother-in-law. Without showing any legal documents they searched the homes, and took Dafa books, truth-clarification materials, approximately 6,000 yuan in cash, two bank deposit books, two cellphones, and a computer that belonged to Mr. Miao's son-in-law's sister.

After Mr. Miao and his daughter were detained, the family fell into difficulty. Mr. Miao's wife couldn't take care of herself and needed help to use the restroom. Their son-in-law had to move her to the home of his own parents (in their sixties) so she could be cared for. Ms. Miao Chunyan's young child cried every day, asking for his mother. She and her husband's business was halted.

On the morning of May 1, Gao Jie and Zhang Ming of the 610 Office notified Mr. Miao's family members that he and his daughter had escaped and could not be found. Local police harassed the family. They extorted money from them, forced them to each write a guarantee statement promising to stop Mr. Miao and his daughter from practicing Falun Gong, and wrote down the name of Ms. Miao Chunyan's child, his kindergarten's address, and the family's phone numbers so they could further persecute and harass them.

At the hands of the Chinese Communist Party, the life of this wonderful family has been torn apart. Mr. Miao Shubao and his daughter cannot return home, and their basic human rights have been withheld.
