Summary of Illegally Detained Falun Gong Practitioners in Baoding City, Hebei Province Between April and July 2007

(Clearwisdom.net) Based on reports published on Clearwisdom.net, we have collected and summarized the cases of Falun Gong practitioners being illegally arrested and having their homes ransacked in Baoding City, Hebei Province between April and July of 2007.

Month Person-Time (Note)
April 20
May 16
June 66
July 86
By August 4th 9
Total 197

From the above data, we can see that the number of Falun Gong practitioners being illegally arrested and having their homes ransacked in Baoding City, Hebei Province went from 20 in April and 16 in May to 66 in June and 86 in July, and in August it rose to 9 practitioners arrested and had their houses ransacked in the first four days of the month. Some more cases have not been reported to Clearwisdom.net. Some reports also stated that many practitioners' houses were ransacked, but did not give detailed numbers. Therefore, the number of cases is higher than the above data. Based on the reported information, almost all of the practitioners on the CCP's blacklist have been harassed and illegally registered by the 610 Office, police stations, residence management committees.

Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China (CIPFG) put forward three requests to the CCP at the end of May: 1. Stop the persecution of Falun Gong immediately and release all practitioners incarcerated for their faith. 2. Stop the persecution of friends and supporters and defense lawyers of Falun Gong practitioners. 3. Hold discussions with CIPFG to arrange details on the opening of labor camps, prisons, hospitals and related secret facilities for inspection by CIPFG independent investigators. CIPFG declared that if satisfactory responses to the requests are not received on or before August 8, 2007, they will join all supporters from around the world to boycott the "2008 Beijing Olympic Games" because the Olympics and persecution should not co-exist.

However, in response to the requests, the Chinese Communist Regime did not stop the persecution, and even worsened it in order to prepare for the Olympics. During this period of time, the persecution was widely spread to every county of Baoding City. The 610 Office and police stations were given quotas to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Almost all practitioners on the blacklist were persecuted under the claim: "The Olympics are coming up. We were told by the upper level officials to do so..."

The house of practitioner Mr. Liu Fengkui from Laishui County has been ransacked 5 times consecutively. In Dingxing County, within one day, 16 practitioners' houses were ransacked. Many family members of practitioners were even kidnapped while they asked for release of practitioners. In many areas, many practitioners were arrested and detained without any "evidence." Some family members and friends were arrested as well. For example, in Dingxing County, on July 22, two ordinary people were arrested along with practitioners. They have been detained for half a month. In Gaoyang County, eight workers who worked for a practitioner were all arrested at the same time as well.

Note: "Person-time" means the time a person is arrested and/or has their home ransacked. If somebody was arrested and had their home ransacked, it counts as one person-time. Ransacked multiple times within one month also counts as one person-time, for example, Mr. Liu Fengkui had his home ransacked 5 times, which was counted as one person-time.
