(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Gang, 39, is from Xiweituo Village, Tunzhou City, Heibei Province. In 2005, he had been in prison for two years when his right leg, which had been severely injured due to torture, was amputated in Baoding Prison. When his worried family went to visit him in Jidong Prison on August 18, 2007, they were driven out by more than 40 guards.

In July 2003, Mr. Wang Gang was sent to Baoding Prison, Hebei Province (also called the No. 1 Prison of Hebei Province) to serve a 10-year sentence for not giving up Falun Gong. Mr. Wang suffered inhumane torture for his firm belief in Falun Gong. The head of the prison, Gao Yingm, ordered guards and inmates to brutally torture him. The head of the prison affairs section, Fan Jianli, beat him and disabled his right leg. In late May 2005, Mr. Wang was forced to have his right leg amputated against his will and without notifying his family.

On August 23, 2006, one year and three months after the tragedy, Mr. Wang Gang managed to notify his family of the bad news.

The heads of Baoding Prison had tried their best to cover up the tragedy. On May 24, 2007, and June 7, 2007, Mr. Wang's wife, his mother-in-law, his sister, and his brother went to Baoding Prison to visit him, but they were told by the prison heads that the news of his amputation was a rumor, and none of the family was allowed to see or even peek at Mr. Wang Gang because he had not yet been "transformed." In the end, Mr. Wang's family members had no other choice but to leave.

In early June 2007, Mr. Wang Gang was transferred from Baoding Prison to Jidong Prison in Tangshan City. By that time, he had been disabled due to the amputation for over two years. On June 28, 2007, his wife finally found out the truth in a letter he wrote to her. On the morning of August 6, his wife and son, Tianyu, finally saw him. Seeing his horrible situation, his wife sobbed.

Jidong Prison authorities told Ms. Ren Cuijing that when Mr. Wang was transferred to Jidong Prison, a medical exam revealed that her husband was suffering from vasculitis in his left leg and that it might have to be amputated as well. However, Mr. Wang was not told this information about his physical condition when he was transferred.

His family was very worried about his wellbeing. At 2:00 a.m. on August 18, 2007--the day the prison allowed family visits--Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Ren Cuijing; his sister, Ms. Wang Yuzhi; his older brother, Mr. Wang Xin; and four more relatives drove a rented car to the No. 4 Division of Jidong Prison in Tangshan City, Heibei Province, to visit him. Mr. Wang's relatives drove 500 kilometers for over nine hours. When they finally arrived at the prison at 11:00 a.m., however, they had missed the morning visiting time. Prison education section deputy head Mr. Wu Likun told Ms. Ren, "We need to discuss your request. I will let you know in the afternoon."

At around 2:30 p.m., Wu Likun called Mr. Wang's family members to a conference room. Division head Hao Baoxin and some others were also present. Wu Likun and others rejected the family's request to visit, saying that too many people were present and some were not direct family members. Ms. Wang Yuzhi asked, "Why was Wang Gang's leg amputated? Persecuting Wang Gang is illegal." Hao Baoxin became very angry. He slammed the table with his fist and yelled, "I don't want you to stay here for even one more minute. You must leave now." Immediately, over 40 prison guards rushed into the room and pushed Mr. Wang Gang's family members out of the prison.
