Renowned Musician: Major Performance Never Before Seen

A well-known musician couple in Boston, Chen Zhixin and Yang Xinyi, attended the first show and praised the performance, saying, "It was a major performance, never before seen. It showcased a high level of artistic skill."

Mr. Chen is a Ph.D in western music at Boston University and an orchestra director. Ms. Yang teaches the Guzheng, an ancient Chinese music instrument. It was their first time seeing the show. They said, "Superb. We have never seen such a large-scale arrangement which includes Chinese and western instruments playing together. The arrangement was very good and well thought out."

Ms. Yang said, "I liked the dance, the 'Drummers of the Tang Court'. I think it would be difficult to dance while playing the drum well and maintaining a loud drum sound. I think their musical background is very good."

The two musicians indicated that generally Chinese music was a small part of a show. This was their first time seeing such a combination of Chinese and western music, "You rarely hear Chinese and western musical instruments playing together, not to mention an accompanying stage performance with such high degree of skill."

Mr. Chen is a director and specifically indicated that the dancers and accompanying band coordinated well, "Since they have an on-site accompanying orchestra, the dancers must be highly-skilled to accurately follow the music. Otherwise, if their drum playing was not in sync, the performance would be poor. Thus the director must be highly skilled."

Blind Lady: Enjoying the Show with Her Heart

A blind lady heard the music on the website of the Chinese New Year Spectacular and liked the sounds, and she was determined to attend the show. With the help of her dog, she went to the Opera House after taking two subways from suburban Boston. She enjoyed the show with her heart and listened attentively to other audience members' descriptions of the colorful costumes and splendid dancing.

Chinese Audience: Moved to Tears

One Chinese audience member said, "Some programs seemed to create a new culture. Some programs seemed to inspire human beings. All of it was very good. I was surprised that two hours felt like just an instant."

She continued, "Qi Xiaochun's Erhu performance moved me to tears. I felt that her whole body and mind were speaking and calling. It was a new realm."
