Chinese New Year Spectacular: Overseas Chinese Feels Fortunate (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) Mei Long was a professional dancer before she left China 14 years ago and now is a real estate agent in Toronto. She watched the Chinese New Year Spectacular with six friends on the evening of January 19. According to Ms. Mei, a physician friend gave her the ticket as a New Year's gift.

"I am very fortunate this year because I received the best New Year's gift from a Western friend," she said.

Real estate agent Mei Long and her friends enjoyed the show

"I didn't know the show would be so professional. It also conveyed a touching message. Though all my friends here tonight are Canadians and don't know the Chinese language, they were all moved by this beautiful show even without my explanation."

Ms. Mei believes that dance originates from life, culture, and the ethical spirit, and that it can portray people's desire to pursue a good life and high values. "From this show, you can sense such inner meanings." She said.

As an overseas Chinese, Ms. Mei said that she was very touched and proud to see her own culture presented in Canada. "It looks like Chinese culture has been better preserved overseas, because the Cultural Revolution destroyed so much of traditional culture in Mainland China," she observed.

"Because I was born after the Cultural Revolution started, many traditions portrayed tonight are new to me. So, I feel very fortunate to see them tonight," said Mei. "I lived in Bangkok for ten years and had a few writer friends who were Falun Gong practitioners. We were as close as sisters. No matter what they chose, I believe that people should have the freedom to choose their own beliefs as they all pursue higher realms. Though the piece about Falun Gong practitioners was short, it conveyed a clear message about people's steadfast belief.

"I think they are admirable."
