Ms. He Xianggu Still Detained in a Mental Hospital

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. He Xianggu has been detained in Hunan Provincial Brain Hospital (the provincial mental hospital) since July 2008. She was sent there by her employer, Hunan Women and Children's Hospital. Hospital officials have been evasive about her case, and she is still in detention.

Ms. He went on a hunger strike for more than two months when she was detained at Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou County, Hunan Province. Because of her poor health, her employer and her family received notice to take her home. In spite of her family's opposition, officials from her workplace insisted on taking her back to Changsa City and promised the family they would not send her to a mental hospital. However, she was taken to the provincial mental hospital the very first day she was back. She was detained in a special ward and watched around the clock by two designated persons who were each paid 1,800 yuan per month.

Her family asked Hu Hui, the director of Hunan Women and Children's Hospital, about her situation. Hu Hui said she would be released after the Summer Olympic Games. Her family had to come to Changsa City from the countryside in Zhuzhou County to ask about her status again after she was not released when the Olympic Games were over. They were told that she was going to be released after the Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Games have ended and she is still being detained in the mental hospital.

Ms. He Xianggu was sent to a mental hospital twice before by her employer. She was injected with drugs that damage the brain and nervous system.
