(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 21 cities or counties in 7 provinces. In this report, 54 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 20 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Ms. Song Yulan, in her fifties, is a farmer at the Chengtun Water Station in Chengjia Village, Dengshahe Town, Jinzhou District, Dalian City. On the afternoon of October 21, the Dalian police and officers from the Dengshahe Police Station took her into custody.

At around 3:00 p.m. on October 21, 2008, Ms. Wang Zhuo was taken from her home in Huludao City. The police took a notebook computer, two copies of Zhuan Falun, and some DVDs that contained information that exposed the persecution. Ms. Wang Zhuo was taken to the Shoushan Detention Center in the Xingcheng area.

On October 20, 2008, Mr. Liang Xisheng, from the Liangjiatun area, and Ms. Zhi Mei, from the Dazhuge area, were taken into custody by officers from the Zhangying Town Police Station while they were telling others about Falun Gong. Mr. Zhang Qinuo was taken from his home and his home was searched.

On October 21, Mr. Dian Jie was taken from his home in Zhong Village, Jinling Town, Zhaoyuan City. His home was searched.

Around October 18, three police officers harassed Ms. Shao Min's eldest sister-in-law, who lives in Bunan Village in Jinling Town, but did not succeed in taking her away.

Ms. Ren Xiuyun, who lives at the Shengli Oil Fields, was taken into custody by plainclothes police officers while she was telling others about Falun Gong and persuading them to withdraw from the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. She is being held at the Centralized Transportation Brainwashing Center in the Shengli Oil Fields.

At around 10:00 a.m. on October 17, 2008, Mr. Guan Shunqi, who lives in Renqiu County, Baoding City, was turned in to the police by a bank clerk when he was conducting a cash transaction at the Boye County Industrial and Commercial Bank. Three or four officers from the Boye County Police Department arrived and took Mr. Guan and the taxi driver, who is not a practitioner, to the police department.

The police body-searched Mr. Guan and the taxi driver. The police then drove Mr. Guan and the driver in the driver's taxi to the Li County Detention Center. The driver was released between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Mr. Guan was taken to the Renqiu Police Department.

Ms. Liu Xiaofeng, 40, is a teacher at the Gaoling County No. 3 High School. In May 2008, she was taken into custody for clarifying the truth. She is being held at the Ankang Hospital, where she was injected with poison and forced to take unspecified drugs. Ms. Liu cannot walk now.

Mr. Li, around 30 years old and single, is a practitioner in the Jiufeng area in Lechang City. He was taken into custody and sent to a labor camp in August while the Olympic Games were being held in Beijing.

Mr. Chen Junfeng is being held in the Baihuashan area in Yunyan District, Guiyang City. He faces an unlawful trial on October 30.

Ms. Shi Qing, 39, is a employee of the No. 8 Institute of the Qiaofang Group Company in Wuhan City. On October 21, she was taken into custody while at work.

At the same time, a practitioner with the surname of Xie (gender unknown), about 40 years old, who had been forced to stay out of town, was also arrested near home in the Zhujiadun area on Yijiadun Street in the Gutian area of Qiaokou District.

At noon on October 10, Ms. Liang Hongmin from Huaguoeryan Village in Shiyan City was telling her guests the truth about Falun Gong in her home. Someone overheard the conversation and alerted the police. At around 3:00 p.m., Min Tianxiang and other officers from the Domestic Security Division in Zhangwan District, Shiyan City broke into Ms. Liang's home. They searched her home and tried to arrest Ms. Liang but their plans were thwarted. The police then broke into the store Ms. Liang operates and took her Falun Dafa books. Ms. Liang managed to escape and has had to stay out of town to avoid being arrested.

On July 25, 2008, 14 practitioners in Wenhua Town in the Liangping area of Chongqing were taken into police custody while watching a video about the truth of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhu Qiyu has been sentenced to two years in prison. Ms. Zhu Zhanmei, Ms. Wang Ju'er, Ms. Huang Xiaomei, Mr. Huang Wanjing, Ms. Tang Xingbi, Ms. Tang Benju, and Ms. Li Qiqiong have each been sentenced to 18 months in prison. The practitioners have been taken to Chongqing. Their families have been denied visitation.

Ms. Yang Deqiong, Ms. Tang Tianying, Ms. Zeng Xiangying, Ms. Jie Maopo, Mr. Jing Huaquan and Ms. Zhu Zhanqiong were released after 15 days of detention.

Recently, six practitioners in the Yueyahepian'er area of Hebei District, Tianjin were taken into custody. They are: Ms. Wang Henfang, Mr. Shi Huiwen and his wife, Grandpa Qiu, Grandpa Yao, and Mr. Gong Jianguo. Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Ms. Fu Shaozhen, an elderly practitioner in Wuhan City, was secretly sentenced to three years in prison by the Wuchang District Court in Wuhan City on October 8, 2008. The prison authorities granted visitation after repeated requests from Ms. Fu's family. It has been reported that Ms. Fu has been suffering from high blood pressure in the prison.

Ms. Chou Sihui, a practitioner in Anshan City, has suffered paralysis of her lower body as a result of abuse she received in the Anshan No. 1 Detention Center. She has not been able to have a bowel movement for over 20 days.

Ms. Jiang Xiuhua, in her forties, received an 8-year prison term in 2002. She has been abused in the Women's Prison of the Shenyang Prison Complex and has developed a brain tumor. She cannot see clearly with one of her eyes as a result of pressure from the tumor. Prison officials are afraid of being held responsible and have notified Ms. Jiang's family to take her home.

On June 4, 2008, Ms. Wang Lifang, 40, was taken from her home in the Gaotaisi Residential Complex in Xingqing District, Yinchuan City by 11 police officers, including Ren Baochuan and Zhao Lingyun from the Jingbian area in Shaanxi Province and local policemen from Xingqing District. Ms. Wang was subsequently sentenced to 18 months of forced labor and taken to the Xi'an City Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Six practitioners remain in custody at the Shizuishan Prison, including Mr. Jiang Tao, Mr. Qiao Jianhui, Mr. Zhao Lin, Mr. Wang Jiaming, Mr. Zhao Yuhu, and Mr. Wang Yuzhu. Mr. Jiang Tao, Mr. Qiao Jianhui and Mr. Zhao Lin are held in the Strict Supervision Ward. Inmates have been assigned to keep an eye on them around the clock. Mr. Wang Jiaming is being held at the Invalid Ward, where he is not allowed to walk out of his room. Mr. Wang Yuzhu has been forced to engage in labor.

Ms. Zhou Hongmei, in her sixties, was taken into custody on the morning of April 10, 2008. A dozen officers, led by Li Jinlin (male), deputy director of the Yangluo Street Police Station in Xinzhou Distict, took Ms. Zhou's husband into custody at the same time. The officers searched their home and confiscated all books, cash, and deposit receipts. Ms. Zhou was later taken to the Duoluokou Brainwashing Center in Qiaokou District, Wuhan City. On July 8, she was officially placed under arrest and transferred to the Wuhan City No. 1 Women's Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Yuhong, in her forties, was taken into custody at work in mid-April by Director Tao, who is in charge of the Cangbu Street Police Station. The officers searched Ms. Liu's home. She was taken to the Liuji Brainwashing Center in Xinzhou District, Wuhan City and other facilities. On July 8, she was officially placed under arrest and transferred to the Wuhan City No. 1 Women's Detention Center.

Ms. Fan Changying, in her forties, was taken into custody by a dozen officers led by Li Jinlin in mid-April. The police searched her home and took her to the Liuji Brainwashing Center in Xinzhou District, Wuhan City. On July 8, she was officially placed under arrest and taken to Wuhan City.

Mr. Zhu Youshan is in his sixties. In mid-April, a dozen police officers from the Cangbu Street Police Station and the Wuhan City Police Department broke in and searched his home while no one was home. Later the police took Mr. Zhu, who was working odd jobs out of town, to the Liuji Brainwashing Center in Xinzhou District. On July 8, he was officially placed under arrest and taken to the Xinzhou District Detention Center.

In mid-August 2008, Ms. Zhang Suyun was turned in to the police while she was telling others the truth about Falun Gong on her way back to Tanghe Town from her hometown in Sichuan Province. The police took her into custody while she was transferring at a bus or train station. She was then taken to a brainwashing center in Nanyang City. A month later, she was taken to the Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City, as she refused to be "transformed."

On October 13, 2008, a group of officers led by Liu Yuejin, of the Domestic Security Unit, took into their custody a practitioner who was in her sixties. The practitioner was held at the Songmen Police Station before being transferred to the Beijiao Identity Check Point.

On May 20, 2008, Ms. Zhang Cuiqin, who lives in Donggezhuang Village in West Tiangezhuang Town, Miyun County, Beijing, was taken into custody. She was taken to the Hubei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp in July. She is suffering from severe diabetes. The labor camp officials have not notified her family about her illness.

Ms. Zheng Yunjing, who also lives in Dongguzhuang Village, was taken into custody the same day as Ms. Zhang Cuiqin. Ms. Zheng is being held at the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp. She has been held under strict supervision.

Ms. Pei Hongxia was taken into custody on May 27. She had been unlawfully held at the Hubei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp for three months.

In May 2008, several groups of officers were sent out by the Pingliang City State Security Department and the Jingchuan County Police Department. They took into custody Mr. Xue Peidong, who is in his seventies and a retired senior official of the Science and Technology Department; Ms. Li Wanchun, chairwoman of the Union at the Agriculture Department; Ms. Wang Liping, chairwoman of the Union at the Cattle and Poultry Department; and Mr. Zhang Wucheng, a farmer in Luodong Township, Jingchuan County.

The four practitioners have been held in custody and abused for over five months. Mr. Xue suffered severe damage to his health.

On October 13, the Jingchuan Court held hearings for the practitioners.

Mr. Xing Shuangyin is from Shipian Village, Liujiazhuang Township, Laiyuan County, Hebei Province. In August 2008, villagers who were assigned to keep an eye on Falun Gong practitioners framed him. Officers from the Laiyuan County Police Department arrested him. Mr. Xing has been taken to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp to serve a forced labor term.

At around 11:30 a.m. on October 21, 2008, Ms. Zhou Xianrong was taken into custody by Tai Gangyi and other officers from the Xichang City State Security Division. Ms. Zhou lives in the Mashuihe area in Xichang City. She has been laid off from the Liangshan Prefecture Food Products Factory.

Officials at the Benxi Forced Labor Camp have resorted to a stretch-bed to torture practitioners who are steadfast in their belief. They strip a practitioner naked, tie him to a handcrafted full-size bed, stretch his legs to the extreme, pull his arms straight, and tie his four limbs with strips of cloth. The practitioner cannot move any part of his body other than his neck and head. The torture lasts for over a month. The practitioner has to relieve himself without leaving the bed. The following practitioners have been recently tortured on a stretch-bed:

On June 30, 2008, Ms. Cai Guiju from Li County in Baoding City and Mr. Ouyang Zhandong from Mo Banner in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were taken into custody by officers from the Chengguan Police Station in Gaoyang County while they were giving out brochures about Falun Gong. On the same afternoon, the police and officials from the Li County searched Ms. Cai's home. They confiscated a computer and Falun Gong books. The Gaoyang Court plans to place Ms. Cai on trial on October 27.
