(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 29 cities or counties in 14 provinces. In this report, 40 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 23 practitioners were illegally arrested.

At around 11:45 a.m. on December 9, 2008, Mr. Chang Lizhong was again taken into custody by Zhang Hongquan and other officers from the Gangcheng Street Police Station in Qinhuangdao City. The police took the opportunity to break in when Mr. Chang was opening the door for a child. The officers grabbed Mr. Chang and dragged him from the fifth floor to the ground floor. The officers beat him, twisted his arms back, and handcuffed him. Mr. Chang Lizhong is being held at the Qinhuangdao No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Xu Hui, a practitioner from Jinzhou City, unfurled a banner in Beijing in July 2008. She is being held at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. She has been on a hunger strike and has become emaciated.

In 1999 Ms. Liu Fengyun was unlawfully sentenced to three years in prison. She was taken to the Heizuizi Prison in Changchun City, and the authorities did not notify her family. The guards at the Dehui Detention Center took all the money on her person, a total of 260 yuan. Ten days later, when the guards asked the family to take Ms. Liu's clothes home, they did not mention the 260 yuan that they took.

Ms. Liu Fengyun's husband makes a living by peddling a tricycle. Local police officers often show up at their home to harass Ms. Liu's husband, who had been unlawfully held in a labor camp as well.

On December 1, 2008, the Ranghulu District in Daqing city held hearings on the cases of Ms. Hou Guihua and Ms. Yan Jinglan. The two practitioners have been unlawfully held in custody for over five months. The two practitioners are being held at the Daqing City No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Wang Shumei was unlawfully sentenced to 10 years in prison, and she has appealed the sentencing. At 9:00 a.m. on December 1, the Shenbei New District Court held trials and sentenced Mr. Yi Changhai to 11 years, Mr. Huo Defu to 6 years, and Mr. Sun Yushu to 8 years in prison. All three practitioners are being held at the Shenbei New District Detention Center.

The Nong'an County Court is to hold trials on Mr. Han Xixiang, Mr. Li Fengming, Ms. Wang Xiuping, Mr. Zhang Wanjun, Mr. Wei Cheng, Ms. Zhao Yushu, and Mr. Qi Yunchao.

Mr. Han Xixiang, 42, and his wife Ms. Wang Xiuping, 41, live in Gaojiadian Town, Nong'an County. They were taken into custody at home in September 2007.

Mr. Li Fengming, 45, and his wife Ms. Zhao Yushu, 43, live in Gaojiadian Town, Nong'an County. They were taken into custody at home on September 27, 2007.

Mr. Zhang Wanjun, 48, lives in Kai'an Town, Nong'an County. He was taken into custody at home on October 10, 2007.

Mr. Qi Yunchao, 37, lives in the Tiexi area in Nong'an Town. The police besieged his home for two days on August 4 and August 5. His wife managed to escape. His son was taken into custody as well, but was later released.

Mr. Jiang Bingzhi, 58, lives in Shiquan Town, Bei'an City. On September 22, 2008, he was taken into custody by officers from the Shiquan Police Station while he was harvesting crops. Mr. Jiang was taken to the Bei'an City Police Department Detention Center. His family did not receive notice when he was taken away. The following day, the officers from the Bei'an City Police Department searched his home. After being held and physically abused at the Bei'an Detention Center for over a month, Mr. Jiang was taken to the Suihua City Forced Labor Camp to serve a two-year term on October 30.

Prior to this, Mr. Jiang was taken into police custody twice. On the morning of February 11, 2003, officers from the Shiquan Police Station took him to the Bei'an Police Department Detention Center at around 10:00 p.m. and searched his home. One month later, he was sentenced to two years of forced labor and taken to the Suihua City Detention Center. On August 3, 2008, days before the Beijing Olympics, Mr. Jiang was taken to the Bei'an Detention Center and held there for two weeks.

On May 9, 2007, Ms. Yang Yonglan, around 50 years old, from Changchun City, and Ms. Cao Yuqin, 65, from Gongzhuling City, were taken into custody by officers from the Erdao Police Department. The two practitioners were held at the Changchun No. 3 Detention Center. Recently, both were sentenced to five years in prison at the Luyuan District Court in Changchun City. In November, they were secretly taken to the Jilin Women's Prison (also known as Heizuizi Women's Prison). The two practitioners are held in the Education Ward, which is dedicated to "transforming" practitioners.

Mr. Zhao Changsheng, in his fifties, was taken into custody on June 8, 2008. He has been held at the Changle County Detention Center. The Changle Court recently secretly sentenced him to eight years in prison without a court hearing.

On December 27, 2000, Ms. Wei Fangling went to the Tiananmen Square to validate the Fa. She was held in police custody for seven days before being released. Later, she was taken by those from the Qilihe District Police Station to the Xiguoyuan Detention Center in Lanzhou City, where she was unlawfully held for 180 days. She was also fined 2,000 yuan. On May 29, 2003, she was deceived by local residential community officials and taken to a brainwashing center. She was held there for 75 days.

Ms. Huang Chunxian, 60, is a retired worker in Sujiatuo Township, Haidian District, Beijing. On September 26, 2007, officers from the Haidian Police Department secretly took her into custody. The police confiscated a notebook computer and an MP3 player. Without going through any legal proceedings, the authorities sentenced her to two years of forced labor. Ms. Huang is being held at the Tiantanghe Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Wang Shurong, 32, was taken into custody by the police, who staked her out downstairs when she came out of the building at 8:00 a.m. on December 5.

Ms. Sun Xingkun, 40, lives in Zhangguo Village, Wangdu County. Since July 20, 1999, she has been detained once, taken to the township government twice, and held in a brainwashing center three times, as well as fined.

At 7:00 a.m. on July 18, 2007, a group of almost 100 people broke into her home only on the grounds that she had installed satellite television. These people took away the satellite reception equipment, her TV antennae, a VCD player, a printer, and bags of peanuts. They also destroyed her barn and stopped her family or even village officials from being present. Ms. Sun managed to escape.

On July 30, 2008, officers from the Wangdu County Police Department and Domestic Security Division seized Ms. Sun while she was working at home. They interrogated her until 2:00 a.m. before taking her to the detention center. Ms. Sun remains in custody at the Wangdu County Detention Center.

On December 1, 2008, Ma Huaiming and others from the Bianzhuang Town Police Station in Changyi City, under the jurisdiction of Weifang City, assisted members of the Changyi City 610 Office to take into custody Ms. Jiang Suzhi in Yuejia Village, Bianzhuang Town. Ms. Jiang was home alone at the time. She refused to open the door, so the police kicked down the theft-deterrent gate and the bedroom door, ransacked her home, and confiscated a few copies of Falun Dafa brochures. Ms. Jiang is being held at the Changyi Detention Center.

Mr. Ma Wenlong, 30, lives in Zhangjiachuan County, Gansu Province. He studied in the Lanzhou Medical Institute between 1995 and 2000. From 1999 to 2000 he was under constant harassment from institute officials and the local police. In July 2000, Mr. Ma went missing in Zhangjiachuan County, Gansu Province. He has remained missing for over eight years.

Ms. Chou Sihui's legs have turned dark brown, and her back is bent over. She also suffers bowel and bladder dysfunction. She passes solid waste only once in 20 or so days and requires others to press on her abdomen as well as prodding with a finger. Ms. Chou shouted in her cell, "Falun Dafa is great! Falun Gong is innocent!" and guards pulled on her hair and filled her mouth with a rag that was used for wiping the floor.

On the afternoon of December 9, Ms. Wang Fengying and Ms. Shi Dongsu in Xinxiang City were taken into custody by two police officers from the Weidong District Police Station near the Henan Normal University. The police coerced each family to pay 5,000 yuan. The two practitioners are being held at the city's detention center for a ten-day period.

Mr. Feng Tingjun is a teacher at the Liuyuan Elementary School in Sanyuan Township, Yongjing County. On June 30, 2008, officers from the 610 Office of the Yongjing County Domestic Security Division took him and his wife Ms. Xue Linfang into custody. Ms. Xue was released on July 23. Mr. Feng has been held at the Yongjing County Detention Center. His family has been denied the right to visit him.

On November 28, the local 610 Office held a secret trial and sentenced him to three years in prison.

Mr. Hu Yinshun lives in Xiqingzhuanghu Village in Fengnan Town, Fengnan District, Tangshan City. On December 10, 2008, he was taken to the 610 Office at the Domestic Security Division. The police also confiscated some Falun Dafa books.

On November 21, 2008, Mr. Chen Wenge, who works at the Wangshi'ao Coal Mine in Tongchuan City, was taken into custody by the Yintai Police Department. His whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Jin Qiaoyun from Dawukou District in Shizuishan City was taken into custody. She is being held at the Shizuishan City No. 1 Detention Center in Ningxia Autonomous Region.

On December 1, 2008, Ms. Zhang Maonu did not return after going out. Later, it was confirmed that officers from the Linjiang Police Station affiliated with the Xisaishan Police Department in Huangshi City arrested her. Her home was subsequently searched. Ms. Zhang had been held for eight days when this report was filed.

At around 11:00 a.m. on December 8, 2008, officers in Guye District, Tangshan City broke into Mr. Wang Zhiqi's home. The police searched his home and confiscated his cellular phone.

Ms. Wang Shengrong, around 30 years old, lives in the Xinglong Residential Community in Zhucheng City. Plainclothes officers took her into custody when she came out of her home on the morning of December 5, 2008. The officers took the keys from her and searched her home. Ms. Wang was held at the Tongfang Hotel for five days. On the afternoon of December 10, she managed to free herself from handcuffs with righteous thoughts and walked away.

At around 11:30 p.m. on July 11, 2008, Luan Bin, director of the Gaoxin Police Station in Jilin City, led a dozen other police officers broke into Mr. Li Wenjun's home using the excuse of safeguarding the Olympics torch relay. The police confiscated a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Dafa books, over 17,000 yuan in cash and deposit receipts, and other personal properties worth tens of thousands of yuan. Mr. Li was taken to t he Gaoxin Police Station, where he was brutally beaten. The officers covered his head with a plastic bag during his interrogation. He was then taken to the Jilin City Detention Center. One month later, he was taken to the Niutai Forced Labor Camp to serve a 15-month term. Mr. Li has resisted persecution and has been on a hunger strike for over 100 days. He is very weak physically currently.

At around 8:30 p.m. on December 2, 2008, Liu Xuezhi, director of the Ludong Police Station in Dingxing County led a dozen officers to Ms. Zhang Xiuping's home. They pried open the door, and proceeded to curse, threaten, and physically assault Ms. Zhang and her family. Ms. Zhang and her eldest son were beaten by the officers. Liu Xuezhi hit Ms. Zhang's youngest son with a wooden club and leather shoes, resulting in a deep cut on his head. Ms. Zhang and her two sons were taken to the police station, and it was noted that the youngest son had blood all over his body. He was taken to the hospital and had five stitches applied to the cut on his head.

Ms. Lu Xiaocha, Ms. Li Yanxia and Ms. Zheng Shurong were taken into custody when the Olympic Games were held in Beijing. They have remained in custody for over four months. Many unnamed practitioners have also been held in custody. Ms. Lu and Ms. Zheng are at the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Their families have been not been permitted to visit them. Ms. Li is being held at the Xinji Detention Center.

At around 4:00 p.m. today, Ms. Hu Zhenru in Dachang Town, Nanjing City was detained by the local police station. She is being held at the Nanjing City Detention Center. At around 5:00 p.m. officers from the Dachang Town Police Department pried open Ms. Hu's home door. The officers confiscated a computer, among other items. Ms. Hu, in her sixties, was taken into custody on January 14, 2007. She was held at the Judong Women's Forced Labor in Jiangsu Province for 18 months. She was released on July 13, 2008. It was less than six months before she was detained again.

At 9:00 a.m. on November 25, 2008, the Anqiu City police took into custody Ms. Shi Guilan and Ms. Li Wencai in Linghetown, Anqiu City under the jurisdiction of Weifang City, Shandong Province. Ms. Shi lives in Dongjizhuang Village, and Ms. Li lives in Caodougou Village. The two practitioners' homes were searched, and they are being held at Anqiu Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Qiufang lives in the Dongting area in Wuchang District, Wuhan City. At around 1:00 p.m. on December 4, 2008, she was taken into custody by the Zhonghua Road Police Station in Wuchang District while distributing brochures. She remains in custody at the Dongxihu Women's and Children's Education Institute.

On December 4, 2008, Mr. Gong Yibin, an employee of the Sinopec No. 3 Petroleum Machinery Factory, was taken into custody at the Beijing Railroad Station.

On the afternoon of December 8, 2008, Ms. Bai Lanjiang, a retired director of the Fuyang City Linen Textile Factory, was taken to the Yingquan District Police Department by officers from the department's Domestic Security Division. On the afternoon of December 9, the police searched Ms. Bai's home.

Mr. Chen Shen, 35, lives in Tupo Township, Linquan County, Fuyang City. In November 2007, he was forced to leave town. He went to Guangdong Province to work odd jobs for a living. In July 2007, he was taken into custody by the police in Guangdong Province.

Ms. Cai Guilan has been sentenced to one year of forced labor. She is being held at the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. Ms. Guan Yong'e is being held in the Linli Detention Center in Changde City. Due to severe abuse, Ms. Guan suffers from uncontrollable trembles and vertigo.

On July 11, Mr. Wang Aiqing, in his sixties, was taken into custody by the Hanchuan City 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division. He has since been held at the Hanchuan City No. 1 Detention Center. The Hanchuan City Court is scheduled to hold a trial on him on December 12.
