(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 18 cities or counties in 9 provinces. In this report, 18 practitioners were subjected to brutal treatment during their detention and at least 17 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Tianjin] Ms. Song Wenhua Taken into Custody; Her Home Searched
At around 2:30 p.m. on January 25, 2008, several dozen police officers from the Yixingfu Police Station in Beichen District in the Hongqiao area and from the Tianjin State Security Division forced their way into practitioner Ms. Song Wenhua's home in Room No. 201 at Gate 4, Building 1, No. 1 Hongyuan Lane on Yixingfu Street using the excuse of verifying residential status. The officers turned on the television with a remote control as soon as they entered and started searching the channels for New Tang Dynasty Television. They took video footage and photographs while making a phone call to the Tianjin City Police Department to get a search warrant issued. The police confiscated a personal computer, a color printer, a laser printer with fax and copy functions, removable hard drives, and other personal items. Ms. Song is being held at the Beichen Detention Center.

2. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Wang Xiaomin's Family Given a Hard Time
In December 2007, practitioner Mr. Wang Xiaomin's family did not receive any notice before or after his court hearing. Later they learned that Mr. Wang was unlawfully sentenced to four years in prison. On the afternoon of February 13, 2008, his family went to the Xiaolingzi Police Station to find out more information. Liu Xu (male), political director of the police station, was especially rude. Mr. Wang's family left without getting anywhere.

3. [Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province] Three Practitioners Unlawfully Sentenced to Prison
On the afternoon of January 22, 2008, three practitioners in Pingxiang City went to Futian Town in Shangli County to clarify the truth and urge others to withdraw from the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. They were turned in to the police. Officers of the Fuqian Town Domestic Security Branch Group took the practitioners into custody. The three practitioners--Ms. Lu Binggen, Ms. Rong Aimei, and Ms. Jin Yulian--are all in their 60s. They were transferred to the Pingxiang City Detention Center on the night of January 22, 2008.
Each of the three practitioners has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. Ms. Rong is being held at the Pingxiang City No. 1 Detention Center. Mr. Lu Binggen and Ms. Jin Yulian are being held at the Chishan Drug Rehabilitation Center in the Shangsu area in Pingxiang City.
4. [Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhou Yunxia Taken into Custody
On February 10, 2008, Ms. Zhou Yunxia took a train to go out of town. She was carrying DVDs with truth clarification contents and Falun Dafa books in her bags, and they were found at the luggage counter. Ms. Zhou Yunxia is being unlawfully held at the Harbin Railroad Detention Center.
5. [Xinjin County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Jiang Bin Forced to Leave Home with No Place to Stay
On February 7, 2008 (Chinese New Year's Day), practitioners in Xinjin County Ms. Huang Chaofen and Ms. Jiang Bin (both 51) were turned in to the police while they were clarifying the truth at Buxingqiao in the Nanhe area, Wujin Town. At around 2:00 p.m., 20 or so uniformed police officers arrived. Two grabbed Ms. Huang, and four grabbed Ms. Jiang. Ms. Jiang tried to clarify the truth to them. The officers twisted her arms behind her back. Ms. Jiang's wrists still hurt to this day.
The police took them to the Xinjin Traffic Division and locked them in a garage. About 20 minutes later the police took them to the Wujin Police Station in Xinjin County. Ms. Huang Chaofen was released two hours later. Four police officers took Ms. Jiang Bin to the Chengxi Police Station in Xinjin County. Ms. Jiang was released two hours later.
On February 13, Yao Dong (male), director of the Xinping Town Comprehensive Management Office, went to Ms. Jiang Bin's home in an attempt to take her into custody again. Ms. Jiang has been forced to leave town and does not have a place to stay.
6. [Benxi County, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Zhuang and His Wife Ms. Cui He Arrested and Held
Mr. Li Zhuang and his wife Ms. Cui He are practitioners in Benxi County. Before midnight on April 12, 2007, officers of the Benxi County Police Station took them into custody. The officers searched their home. Mr. Li Zhuang was held at the Xiaoshihuangshan Detention Center for nine months and was then sentenced to five years in prison. Mr. Li was sent to the Dabei Prison and transferred to the Fushun Prison. Recently, he was taken to the Dongling District Prison in Shenyang City. Detailed information is not available.
Ms. Cui He was sentenced to three years of forced labor and taken to Masanjia Forced Labor. The labor camp denied her admission twice due to her physical condition. Ms. Cui remains at the Xiaoshihuangshan Detention Center. The Benxi County Police Department still refuses to release her. Before Ms. Cui started practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from leukemia and recovered from the verge of death soon after she started practicing. She developed severe symptoms of illness after she was taken into custody.
7. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Mr. Liu Dalian Held in Custody
Mr. Liu Dalian makes a living by running a barber's shop. On November 27, 2007, he was taken into custody at Haijun Square. Mr. Liu is being held at the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Center. He is to be held there for 18 months.
8. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Practitioner Mr. Luo Xufeng's Whereabouts Unknown
On January 5, 2004, the Futian District Court in Shenzhen City placed on trial Mr. Liao Nuli, Mr. Li Xiaoqiu, Mr. Luo Xufeng, Mr. Wang Yanfan, and Ms. Wang Shuqin. On April 8, Mr. Liao Nuli and Mr. Li Xiaoqiu were sentenced to ten years in prison, Mr. Luo Xuefeng to nine years, Mr. Li Xiaoqiu's mother Ms. Wang Shuqin to seven years, and Mr. Wang Yanfa to five years. Mr. Luo Xufeng's whereabouts have been unknown ever since.
9. [Beijing] Practitioner Ms. Li Xiaoqin Unlawfully Detained by the Xuanwu District Police Department and Held at the Xuanwu District Detention Center
10. [Shandong Province] Ms. Deng Xiuting Taken to a Brainwashing Center
Ms. Deng Xiuting, a practitioner who works at the Shengzhong Community Health Center in the Shengli Oil Fields, was turned in to the authorities on February 3, 2008 for clarifying the truth. Dong Ning, an officer of the Domestic Security Binbei Police Department, took him into custody. Ms. Deng is being held at the Shengcai Brainwashing Center.
11. [Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Chen Shaoxia Taken to Guangzhou Forced Labor Camp
On the morning of January 9, 2007, Ms. Chen Xiaoxia and Ms. Liang Rongfang were taken into custody while they were distributing truth clarification materials in the Baiyuan Farm Market in Chikan District, Zhanjian City. Ms. Chen Shaoxia was taken to the Guangzhou Forced Labor Camp in 2007. Ms. Liang Rongfang has been released.
12. [Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Zhou Jianyuan, Mr. Zhuo Jiangshan, and Ms. Huang Jiafang Unlawfully Placed on Trial
Practitioners Mr. Zhou Jianyuan, Mr. Zhuo Jiangshan, and Ms. Huang Jiafang, an associate professor in a university in Guangzhou City, were taken into custody by the police in Mulu Town, Wuchuan City, on September 23, 2007. They are being held at the Wuchuan City No. 2 Detention Center. In January 2008, the three practitioners were placed on trial. Three attorneys defended them by saying they did not commit any crime. The court did not reach a decision, but the three practitioners remain in custody.
13. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Lina and Her Non-Practitioner Husband Taken into Custody
At noon on February 15, 2008, the police searched Ms. Liu Lina's home at the family quarters of the Shijiazhuang Sishui Factory. The officers took into custody Ms. Liu, her non-practitioner husband, and her younger brother. At 9:00 p.m. Ms. Liu's younger brother was released. No information is available about Ms. Liu Lina and her husband.
14. [Fujian Province] Reported Some Male Practitioners Unlawfully Held at Fuzhou Prison
15. [Shanghai] Additional Information on the Mistreatment of Mr. Zeng Jiafeng
Practitioner Mr. Zeng Jiafeng in Shanghai went back to his hometown in the Sutang area in Jiangsu Province to spend the Chinese New Year season (around February 7, 2008). On February 10, officers of the Domestic Security Division in Rudong County took him into custody from his home. On February 11, he was placed in detention on criminal charges.

16. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Ms. Dong Mei Taken into Custody
Around January 20, 2008, Ms. Dong Mei in Dadong District, Shenyang City, was taken into custody by the Domestic Security Division of the Dadong 610 Office and the Tiexi District Security Division.
17. [Miyi County, Sichuan Province] Several Practitioners Taken into Custody; Their Homes Searched
At around 7:00 a.m. on January 11, 2008, Lu Chengjun (male) and other officers of the Xiaojie Police Station in Miyi County went to search the home of practitioners Mr. Li Jiaming and his wife, Ms. Cai Huilian. The officers pried open the door when the couple refused to answer the door. The officers confiscated copies of Zhuan Falun, Essentials for Further Advancement, "Minhgui Weekly," truth clarification materials, DVDs of Fa lectures, a tape recorder, a DVD player, an MP3 player, and a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong. The officers dragged Mr. Li and Ms. Cai into a police vehicle. The two practitioners were taken to the police station. Mr. Li was released the same day, but Ms. Cai was held in custody for 14 days. She was tortured on a Tiger Bench while she was held in the Xiaojie Police Station. On January 11, Mr. Li Yongquan, a practitioner in Binggu Town, was taken into custody by the police. He was tortured on a Tiger Bench in the Miyi Detention Center.
On January 11, Yang Yinkun (male) and other officials and officers in Baima Town went to harass Ms. Yu Lan at her home. They confiscated two copies of Falun Dafa books and two packs of incense. In mid-April 2007, Wang Yingzhong (male), an official in Miyi County, led a dozen people from the township government, the Xiaojie Police Station, and the police department to Ms. Yu Lan's home. The officers took a pair of earrings, a gold ring, some jade decoration collections, a large silver coin, 200 yuan in cash, various books, and over 20 copies of truth clarification materials.
18. [Yushu City, Jilin Province] Practitioner Mr. Lu Xianfeng Sentenced to Four Years in Prison
On August 10, 2007, Mr. Lu Xianfeng was taken into custody by the Sihe Town Police Station and the Domestic Security Division of the police department and held at the Yushu City Detention Center. Four months later, in January 2008, Mr. Lu was sentenced to three years in prison by the Yushu City Court. When the case was reviewed by the Changchun City Intermediate Court, Mr. Lu's prison term was considered too short and an extra year was appended to it. On the afternoon of February 1, 2008, the Yushu City Court announced Mr. Lu's prison term as four years. He is being held at the Yushu City Detention Center.
19. [Luzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Tang Tianmin Taken into Custody
Ms. Tang Tianmin, in her 50s, is a practitioner in the Naxi area in Luzhou City. On February 3, 2008, she went to Dagu Town to distribute truth clarification materials. Officers of the Dagu Town Police Station took her into custody. Ms. Tang is being held at the Naxi Detention Center.
20. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Miao Xiaoying and Ms. Zhang Yanhua Taken into Custody
On the evening of February 15, 2008, Ms. Miao Xiaoying and Ms. Zhang Yanhua from Yangzhuangzi Village in Baiguantun Town, Fengrun District, Tangshan City, were turned in to the authorities while they were distributing truth clarification materials in Yanzhuangzi Village. The two practitioners were taken to the Baiguantun Town Police Station. It is not clear what their situation is at the moment.
