(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 11 provinces. In this report, 8 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 18 practitioners were illegally arrested.

On the evening of January 19, 2008, four practitioners in Tonghua County, Ms. Lan Xinhua, Ms. Li Shumei, Ms. Zhang Yujie, and Ms. Liu Ping, went to Sipeng Township in Tonghua County to distribute truth clarification materials. They were turned in to the authorities at around 9:00 p.m. Wu Zhiming (male), director of the Sipeng Police Station, and other officers took the practitioners to the local police station. Wu then called the Domestic Security Division in Tonghua County. Domestic security officers Chi Yanmin (male), Shen Baoquan (male), and Yu Jisheng (male) took the four practitioners away. Ms. Liu Ping managed to escape at 6:00 a.m. on January 20, 2008. The other three practitioners are being unlawfully held at the Tonghua County Detention Center.

Mr. Wang Hongliang, a practitioner from Jincheng Township, Shuangcheng City, has been unlawfully held at the Jinlin Province No. 2 Prison. Half of his body has been paralyzed, and he cannot take care of himself. The prison authorities have agreed to release him on medical parole and sent people to the Jincheng Township Police Station in Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province to process paperwork. However, the police station personnel refused to retrieve Mr. Wang Hongliang.

On January 20, 2008, Mr. Shen Jinxiang, a practitioner in Suiyang Town, Heilongjiang Province, was working as a crew member on a bus. Sun Dehai (male), an officer of the Huangsong Police Station affiliated with the Suiyang Forestry Police Department, called the authorities and took Mr. Shen into custody on the grounds that he found copies of the "Nine Commentaries of the Communist Party." Mr. Shen Jinxiang is being held at the detention center affiliated with the Suiyang Forestry Police Department.

Ms. Wang Jingchun is a Falun Gong practitioner from Liaoyang County, Liaoning Province. She was transferred to the No. 6 Ward in the Nanguanling Prison in Dalian City from the Qingtaizi Prison in Fushun City, Liaoning Province. Her family went to visit her after January 1, 2008. They were denied admission by prison officials.

Ms. Tang Huiyun is a Falun Gong practitioner from Tiexi District, Shenyang City. On January 2, 2008, she was taken to the brainwashing center outside the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Fu Yanyan, a practitioner in Chaoyang District, Beijing, went missing in September 2007. It has been reported that she was recently taken to the Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp.

On the evening of January 20, 2008, four Falun Gong practitioners in Langfang City were taken into custody at the same time by members of the 610 Office of the Langfang City Domestic Security Division and officers led by Jin Limin (male), director of the Development District Police Department. The officers pried open the windows and doors to break into the practitioners' homes. The police took all the cash and other valuables, including a car. Mr. Liu Jinrui and Mr. Zhang Lizhi are being held at the Langfang Brainwashing Center. Mr. Zhang Lijun is being held at the Langfang Detention Center. His family has not been notified to process any paperwork. Mr. Zhang Lijun's wife Ms. Ma Li was also taken into custody at around 10:00 p.m. on January 20.

At around 9:00 p.m. on January 21, Ms. Ma Li was released. However, the police have set up surveillance posts and video cameras under the building where Ms. Ma's mother lives.

On the afternoon of January 17, 2008, Li Zhongliang, a security guard in Beijingmeng Village, Dong'anzhuang Township, Shenzhou City, led several officers of the Dong'anzhuang Township Police Station to Ms. Kang Kuirong's home in Beijingmeng Village. The officers arrived in a police vehicle. They searched Ms. Kang's home and confiscated two pieces of truth clarification material. The police then took Ms. Kang to the Dong'anzhuang Police Station. They demanded 10,000 yuan from her and later changed the amount to 1,000 yuan. After collecting the money, the police released Ms. Kang.

On the morning of January 19, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Huo Yuping and Ms. Zhang Xiujuan were clarifying the truth and persuading people to quit the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations at the Xintun Farm Market in Liyuan Town, Kaiping District in Tangshan City, Hebei Province. Patrolling officers of the Liyuan Police Station took them into custody. On the evening of January 19, the officers searched the two practitioners' homes and confiscated Falun Dafa books and other items. The two practitioners were taken to the the Kaiping Police Department. On the morning of January 20, the two practitioners were released. They have returned home.

Mr. Sui Youjun, around 60 years old, has been held at a detention center since December 12, 2007, when the police took him into custody. His family has not been able to visit him yet. Recently, the police came to his home and asked his family for money, citing that Mr. Sui was on the verge of death. His family gave the officers cash and was told to wait for phone calls for more information. They never received any calls. It has been reported that Mr. Sui Youjun is being rescued in a hospital due to life-threatening illnesses.

Ms. Chen Aiye, 32, was taken into custody by the police in Pingdu City at around 9:00 p.m. on January 16, 2008. The police confiscated two boxes of truth-clarifying material and a computer used for cash registry in the store operated by her family. Ms. Chen was taken to the Pingdu City Detention Center, where three other Falun Gong practitioners from Yunshan Town are being unlawfully held.

On the afternoon of January 22, 2008, three female practitioners in their sixties were turned in to the police while they were clarifying the truth and persuading people to quit the Communist Party and its affiliated organizations. At around 6:00 p.m. they were taken into custody by the Domestic Security Branch Division in Futian Town. They were transferred to the Pingxiang City No. 1 Detention Center the same night.

Five officers from the Domestic Security Branch Division in Futian Town and from the Pingxiang City Domestic Security Division searched the homes of the two practitioners, Ms. Lu Guilan and Ms. Rong, and confiscated some truth-clarification materials.

It has been verified that the report filed on January 19 was not accurate. Ms. Guo Fengying was not taken into custody. She left town as soon as she heard of the pending arrival of the police. Three practitioners are being held at the Dancheng Detention Center. Ms. Wu Fengying, in her fifties, was arrested at a fellow practitioner's home. Another practitioner Ms. Yue Yanping, in her fifties, was turned in to the police and taken into custody a month ago for clarifying the truth. Mr. Zhu, a retired worker in his sixties, has been unlawfully held in custody for almost ten months.

Ms. Zhang Xianglian, a Falun Gong practitioner in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province, was taken from her home to the brainwashing center located in the Chang'an County Workers Rehabilitation Center in early October 2007.

There are about 500 families in Lianhua Township. They were forced to subscribe to closed-circuit television programs. They had to surrender their satellite dishes to unemployed people who were temporarily hired by Party officials in the township to dismantle them. The families were paid only 40 yuan for dishes worth 250 yuan. The officials said that they were targeting satellite Falun Gong programs.

In mid-January 2008, Ms. Wang Zhicai was turned in to the police while she was clarifying the truth. Ms. Wang is an employee of the Guizhou Kuangshan Machinery Factory. Officers of the Xinhua Road Police Station took her into custody. On January 20, the police unlawfully searched her home.
