California: Fremont Human Rights Commission Passes Resolution Supporting Human Rights Torch Relay (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of February 25, 2008, the Fremont Human Rights Commission in the San Francisco Bay Area passed a resolution in support of the Global Human Rights Torch Relay. The Human Rights Torch Relay aims to expose the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) tyrannical rule, and stop human rights abuses in China. The human rights torch was lit on August 9, 2007 in Athens, Greece--the birthplace of the Olympic Games. It is scheduled to arrive in San Francisco in April this year.

Coordinator of the Human Rights Torch Relay activity Shu Nan discusses the persecution of Falun Gong in China

Ms. Hoffman, a member of the Human Rights Commission, pointed out that the resolution invites all citizens to support the Human Rights Torch Relay activities. Many Chinese citizens in Fremont have been denied entry to China to visit their families due to their beliefs.

Shu Nan, coordinator of the Human Rights Torch Relay activities, said that the Human Rights Torch has been passed to several dozen countries, including Australia and Israel. It will arrive in the Bay area in late March and early April. The initiation of the Human Rights Torch Relay primarily aims to expose the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong, and stop the persecution through the torch relay activities. Shu Nan said that the Olympics and crimes against humanity cannot coexist.

Several Falun Gong practitioners in Fremont recounted the persecution of Falun Gong in China at the human rights commission meeting. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Shang pointed out that the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is very serious. Just as Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas stated in his investigative report, it is a "new form of evil on the planet." The CCP even harvests organs from living Falun Gong practitioners in order to profit from and eradicate Falun Gong. Because he practices Falun Gong, Mr. Shang was unable to go back to China to attend his loved ones' funerals.

He said that the CCP attempts to cover up its evil deeds by taking advantage of hosting the Olympic Games, and tries to deceive the world with deceit. He urged that people should stand up to insist that the CCP stop the persecution immediately.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang said that the crime of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners is taking place in China right now. She feels duty-bound to expose the facts of the persecution to the public, and said that we need everyone's participation and support to stand up and say "No" to the evil. The Human Rights Torch Relay provides an opportunity for everyone to support the righteous. No matter what our backgrounds are, whether or not our beliefs are the same, every citizen in the world can take part in the Human Rights Torch Relay activities.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Cheng talked about her personal experience of being persecuted by the CCP. When she went back to China several years ago, the police arrested her because she talked with two Falun Gong practitioners. The police told her that more than three practitioners being together is illegal. Because she had a U.S. passport, she was released a week later, but she was threatened not to talk about this matter to anyone.

Ms. Cheng gave the incident of the Tiananmen Massacre of 1989 as an example of the CCP's deception. It was obvious that many students and citizens were killed, but the CCP has insisted on claiming that not a single person was killed. The CCP has brutally persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. The CCP promised to improve human rights prior to the Olympics, but it has abused the privilege of hosting the Olympic Games. Ms. Cheng said that we should absolutely not believe the CCP regime.

Ms. Walsh is also a member of the Human Rights Commission. She was moved after listening to the practitioners' explanations, and she supported the resolution, as it was not a matter of belief, but a matter of people's lives.

The committee members cast their votes and passed the resolution in support of the Human Rights Torch Relay.
