Information on the Secret Sentencing of Ms. Liu Shuxiang in Laixi City, Shandong Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Shuxiang is a school nurse at the Yuehu Elementary School in Laixi City, Shandong Province. She was arrested on July 17, 2007, and taken the next day to the Qingdao City Third Detention Center. On July 19, 2007, her home was ransacked. On October 19, 2007, the Laixi City Procuratorate filed a lawsuit against her. However, the legal documents incorrectly stated that Ms. Liu was detained at the Laixi City Detention Center. On November 5, 2007, officials from Laixi City Court went to the Qiaodao City Third Detention Center to hold a secret hearing. On November 7, 2007, Ms. Liu was sentenced to four years in prison.

Ms. Liu's sentencing papers stated that the reason she had been arrested was because she gave a copy of the "Nine Commentaries on Chinese Communist Party" to Song Wenzhe, a police officer from the Qingdao Road Police Station in Laixi City. On July 4, 2007, Song Wenzhe and Cao Jingyong, another police officer from the Qingdao Road Police Station, went to Ms. Liu's home pretending to register her residence. Ms. Liu gave Song Wenzhe the Nine Commentaries in an effort to ensure a good future for him. Ms. Liu was also sentenced because truth clarification materials were found in her bag when she was arrested. The arrest was planned. The police told Ms. Liu's family that she had been reported to the authorities for distributing truth clarification materials at the train station.

On November 12, 2007, Ms. Liu appealed to the Qingdao City Intermediate Court and defended herself. On December 17, 2007, the Qingdao City Intermediate Court rejected her appeal although there was no incriminating evidence against her.

Ms. Liu's husband died in a car accident ten years ago. Ms. Liu brought up her two young daughters as a single mother and has lived a difficult life. The death of her husband and life's heavy burdens caused Ms. Liu to suffer from a variety of illnesses and she was chronically depressed. Then she discovered Falun Gong. By following the principles of Falun Dafa's teachings,"Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" and "thinking of others first," her heath improved and she she was no longer depressed. Her grief over the loss of her husband was transformed into compassion for others. The love she showed to her children touched many other parents. Her unselfishness and her devotion to her work touched her colleagues at work as well.

Ms. Liu is still in the Qingdao City Third Detention Center. It was reported that she might be transferred to Jinan Prison.
