(Clearwisdom.net) Ever since the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong in July, 1999, Ms. Ding Yan, a Falun Gong practitioner in Tonghua City, Jilin Province, has been harassed, unlawfully imprisoned and persecuted many times by staff from the 610 Office in the Tonghua City Public Security Bureau and the Xinzhan Police Station.

Ding Yan is fifty-five years old. Since practicing Falun Gong, she has been strictly cultivating herself according to Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. She works diligently at her job and always turns in any money she finds.

Some time before July 20, 2002, three police officers including Zhang Yuanli and Xiao Yuxian went to Ding Yan's home. They lied to her saying that their boss wanted to talk with her, so she went to the police station with them. In the police station, Hu Xicai, the party secretary at the Xinzhan Office said, "Tonight, if you agree not to practice Falun Gong any longer, we'll let you go home immediately. Otherwise, you will stay here."

Ding Yan was illegally detained in the Xinzhan Police Station. Nine Falun Gong practitioners were detained together at that time, including a practitioner with a six-month-old baby. The Communist Party's staff persecuted them with forced brainwashing, threats, sleep deprivation, and other abuses. Because it was close to July 20, the date marking the beginning of the persecution, in order to prevent Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, the police stations in Tonghua City unlawfully detained Falun Gong practitioners, claiming that they were "organizing them for study."

At about 8:00 a.m. on January 24, 2002, four people (Liu Jingxue, Liu Xiangyi, and two people surnamed Guan and Han) from the 610 Office in the Tonghua City Public Security Bureau, and Wang Zhixue from the security department of the food company were Ms. Ding was employed went to Ding Yan's office. They unlawfully confiscated her Falun Dafa books and forcibly took her to the Dongcang Public Security Bureau. In the interrogation room, they locked her up against the wall with handcuffs and iron chains. They slapped her face many times and did not stop until they got tired.

They poured cold water over her head and her whole body was drenched. Then they opened the window and let cold wind blow on her. They also put a stainless-steel garbage bin beside her ear and then used an iron pole to beat it. The beating made such an enormous noise that even the policemen themselves could not stand it and used towels and their coat collars to cover their ears. Jiang Haidong, the head of the 610 Office at the City Public Security Bureau, led the other officers in torturing Ms. Ding. They tortured her like this three times until dawn.

The police unlawfully detained Ding Yan for one more day on January 25. At about 4:00 p.m. that day, a policeman brought Ms. Ding to the Changsha Detention Center and illegally imprisoned her there for twenty-nine days. On February 22, she was released on bail.

At the end of November 2006, four people including Zhang Xiaoxu, the political director at the Xinzhan Police Station and Ma Qiang unlawfully forced their way into Ding Yan's house. They searched her house without finding anything and they frightened Ding Yan's family. When Ding Yan asked Zhang Xiaoxu: "Where I live is under the jurisdiction of the Jiangdong Police Station. Why do you people (from the Xinzhan Police Station) come?" Zhang Xiaoxu lied to her, claiming that they were working together with the Jiangdong Police Station.
