Sculptor and Teacher Mr. Wang Deqian is Again Arrested (Hebei Province) (Photos)

Mr. Wang Deqian's Home Ransacked by Police

Mr. Wang Deqian, 58, worked for the Linqingsi Middle School, Laishui County, Hebei Province and was known as a good teacher. He is a sculptor and artist well known in the area.

At around 5:00 p.m. on March 12, 2008, the police from the Yi County Department and Longmen Township Station in Laishui County went to Mr. Wang Deqian's house and ransacked his home. Three of Mr. Wang's art pieces, a head clay statue and two calabash art pieces were stolen by the police. Later Mr. Wang was detained at the Yi County Detention Center. Currently, Mr. Wang is on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Mr. Wang's wife is a teacher at a nursery school. She is hard working and has a lot of responsibility. During the period when Mr. Wang was being tortured for no reason, she continued to work hard. After Mr. Wang was arrested, his wife was threatened by Party officials from Longmen Township. They said, "If you do not cooperate, your own salary will be withheld and you will be in danger of loosing your job."
