Chinese Australian: It Was Like Finding Something You Had Lost for Many Years

(Clearwisdom.net) The curtain fell on the final show by the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on the evening of April 8, 2008. Long-lasting applause from a packed the theater brought the run to a perfect ending. Many Chinese Australians in the audience expressed their enthusiasm after watching the show.

Ms. Dong from Mainland China told the reporter, "It made me feel so happy! I really loved it!" Her favorites were "Drummers of the Tang Court" and "The Loyalty of Yue Fei." She said you couldn't have seen such a show in China. "I wanted to come when I first read about it in the newspaper."

Jane Norton and Yesi are close friends. Jane has learned some Chinese. She said she loved the story about Hou Yi an Chang Er. She also loved the drum dance. Yesi is a second-generation Chinese Australian who grew up overseas. Yesi said, "I liked the show. It is different from others. It stressed classical culture. The dances were beautiful! I think it reminded people how important Chinese culture is. We have lived overseas for a long time, but we feel close to it still. So, it is really great!"

Lucy, whose job is in cultural events, said, "I thought the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' was very neat. The music sounded familiar. It was gorgeous!. The most touching was the meaningful classical Chinese element. You can't find that in Mainland China. It was like finding or seeing something you had lost for many years or suddenly remembering something from your childhood."

Physical therapist Bo Ya is from Hong Kong. She said the show was very helpful for young people to learn classic Chinese culture. "I loved it! It was great! I liked 'Drummers of the Tang Court.' Classic music and dance techniques were found throughout the show. I think young people would like it, too. That's why I brought my son. He learned more about classic Chinese culture from the show. The message of peace and finding yourself was also portrayed in the show."
