Artist Wang Deqian from Hebei Province Arrested and His Daughter Detained When Visiting Him


(Clearwisdom.net) At 5 p.m. on March 12, 2008, Mr. Wang Deqian, a folk artist from Hebei Province, was arrested again by police officers from the Yi County Police Department and the Longmen Township Police Station in Laishui County. The police ransacked his home, leaving it a mess. Some art and craft materials were confiscated.

Mr. Wang Deqian was sent to the Yi County Detention Center. He has started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Mr. Wang's oldest daughter went to visit him by bus, but the guards would not let her see her father.

On April 11, Mr. Wang's wife and oldest daughter went to visit him again. The Yi County Police Department detained his daughter, saying a picture found in her home was posted on the Clearwisdom website.
