VANCOUVER--After seeing the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at
the Bell Performing Arts Centre on Saturday evening, Langley, British Columbia,
mayor Peter Fassbender said he and his wife both enjoyed the
"inspiring" show. "The movements were tremendous, and I think the messages in the dance
and the symbolism of what they were talking about was very good," said
Fassbender. Mayor Fassbender said he loved the music, noting that the "music and the
dance are so well-intertwined that it's like it is one complete sense of
movement and message." Referring to the performances in the show that portrayed the persecution of
Falun Gong in China, Fassbender said it was important for Canadians to realize
that "we're very fortunate to have a country where people can have their
beliefs and faith, and all of those things are freely expressed by everyone and
I think the whole world should be at that place." The New York-based Divine Performing Arts, which stages the Spectacular,
says that in its productions it strives to revive the authentic traditional arts
and culture of China, in which moral values and spiritual pursuits are highly
emphasized. Fassbender said the spiritual aspect was evident in the show. "I love Chinese culture. I think the colors, the movements, all of those
things are very very strong and there is also a real sense of...spiritualism as
well. There is a very deep message in there, so it's good... it's very
good." After traveling to over 60 countries on four continents, the Divine
Performing Arts will conclude the Canadian leg of its 2008 international tour
with shows in Calgary from April 30-May 2, and in Edmonton on May 5-7. Some of the information for this article was provided by NTDTV, a
