(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 43 cities or counties in 17 provinces. In this report, 37 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 53 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Since early 2008, officials of Xihu Prison in Benxi City, Liaoning Province, have initiated so-called "forced transformation." Some practitioners have been severely injured due to cruel torture. On April 3, Mr. Pei Guangbin's family went to visit him and learned that he had been viciously beaten.

It has been reported that Mr. Zhao Liang, a practitioner from the Gangtun area in Huludao City has remained on a hunger strike under custody.

In April, the Political and Judiciary Committee, the police department, the 610 Office in Zhaoyuan City and the city's exhibition center jointly sponsored a cartoon show that defamed Falun Gong. The Zhaoyuan City Political and Judiciary Committee has ordered work units and school officials to organize visits to the show.

On the afternoon of March 23, 2008, the Fengcheng City Domestic Security Division took into custody four practitioners: Ms. Wang Shuqing, Ms. He Ping, Ms. Liu Shushuang, and Ms. Xia Yan. The police confiscated a notebook computer and a printer. Ms. Wang Shuqing's husband is deceased, and their son is still young. He goes to the police and other relevant departments every day. He cries while asking for his mother's release. The child has been denied admission by guards at various departments.

The four practitioners have been transferred to the Fengcheng City No. 1 Detention Center.

On March 29, 2003, a practitioner in Zhengzhou City was taken into custody by the police while distributing truth clarification materials. The practitioner is being held at the Erqi District Detention Center in Zhengzhou City.

Ms. Zhuang Shuling, around 50 years old, is a practitioner in Tongzhou District, Beijing. At around 4:00 a.m. on April 11, 2008, she and her son, who is not a practitioner, were taken into custody by the Liyuan Police Station. Her daughter, who is a practitioner, has been forced to leave home and become destitute.

At around 10:00 a.m. on April 1, 2008, officers of the Liaolan Police Station in Pingdu City went to Ms. Zhu Xiufang's home and took her away to the police station. Officers confiscated Falun Dafa books, cassette tapes, copies of "Minghui Weekly", and truth clarification brochures. The officers dictated the Guarantee Statement, which they forced Ms. Zhu to write sentence by sentence. They then held her hand and pressed her fingerprint on the statement. Ms. Zhu's brother-in-law went to the police station to ask for her release. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from him.

On April 7, the police went to practitioner Ms. Xiaogao's home and confiscated Falun Dafa books and an electric-motor vehicle. Ms. Xiaogao was taken into custody, and her whereabouts is unknown.

At around 6:00 p.m. on April 9, 2008, five officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Linying County Police Department and from the Chengguan Police Station broke into practitioner Mr. Niu Wenji's home. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books and truth clarification materials. Mr. Niu is being held at the Linying County Detention Center.

On April 8, 2008, three plainclothes police officers suddenly broke into Ms. Ma Yuhua's home in Qingyutan Village, Rongcheng City, The officers presented no legal papers and confiscated Falun Dafa books, copies of Minghui Weekly, and truth-clarification materials. Later that day, half a dozen police officers arrived at Ms. Ma's home again to take her into custody. Ms. Ma's whereabouts is unknown.

The police took into custody Ms. Liu Ruiqiu between April 2 and April 7, 2008. On the afternoon of April 7, the police coerced Ms. Liu's daughter to open Ms. Liu's door and conducted a search.

Ms. Liu Ruiqiu was illegally sentenced to one year and nine months of forced labor in May 2006. She was just released in early January 2008 from the Shandong Province No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp. While Ms. Liu was in the labor camp, members of the 610 Office and guards at the labor camp mentally poisoned and coerced her daughter.

Ms. Deng Jinghui, around 70 years old, is a practitioner who lives in the Yuanzuqiao area in Shapingba District, Chongqing. At 9:00 a.m. on April 10, 2008, she was taken into custody while clarifying the truth at Sanxia Square in the Shaba area. Ms. Deng's whereabouts is unknown.

Ms. Lanlan was taken into custody by two police officers at her home near the Sanfeng Road Fruit Store in Baoding on the afternoon of April 4, 2008. Her whereabouts is unknown.

A practitioner with the surname Jia (gender unknown), who is from out of town working odd jobs in Mudanjiang City and living in the Jiangbin area, was recently taken into custody by officers from the Mudanjiang City Police Department.

Since April 7, 2008, officers from the Chaoyang Township Police Station have harassed practitioners by visiting them at their homes. The officers threaten and intimidate practitioners while forcing them to answer if they are still practicing. It was reported that even if one had stopped practicing, he or she would still have to pay a deposit. The officers have also been gathering information on who is still practicing and who has started to practice Falun Dafa.

At around 8:00 p.m. on April 9, 2008, officers of the Gudianzi Town Police Station in Changyi District took into custody practitioners Mr. Su Yanwei, Ms. Kan Xuxiang, Mr. You Zuozai, and Ms. Ding Qin. On the morning of April 10, the practitioners' homes were searched. The whereabouts of the four practitioners are unknown.

At around 7:00 p.m. on April 9, 2008, Xu Wuchang (male), director of the Security Office in Sanxing Brigade, Qingshan Township, led two police officers from the Qingshan Township Police Station to Mr. Chen Wenbin's home in the Sanxing Brigade. Mr. Chen was reading a book. One officer grabbed the book from him and hit him several times before taking him into custody. One hour later, the Yushu City Domestic Security Division called and claimed that Mr. Chen had been placed in detention for 15 days.

At around 9:00 p.m. on April 6, 2008, Ms. Dang Zhanyun, Ms. Wang Shukun, and another practitioner from the Shaling area in Yuhong District, Shenyang City, went to near the Masanjia area to distribute truth clarification materials. They were taken into custody by patrolling security staff to the Masanjia Police Station. Ms. Dang and Ms. Wang are being held at the Zaohua Police Station. The other practitioner has been released.

At around 8:00 p.m. on April 9, 2008, three officers from the Shulan City Police Department took Ms. Deng Hongyan into custody at her home. The officers confiscated 1,000 yuan and an MP3 player. Ms. Deng was taken to the Nanshan Detention Center in Shulan City at 1:00 a.m. that same night.

At 8:00 a.m. on April 5, 2008, local police officers took into custody Ms. Bai Jiezi, 65, who lives in Chaganhua Township, Qianguo County, Songyuan City. Ms. Bai is being held at the Qianguo County Detention Center.

At around 9:30 p.m. on April 10, 2008, Mr. Shi Xiaochun, a practitioner in Jidong County, was taken into custody by two police officers from the No. 1 Police Station. The officers found a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhang Bo, a practitioner from Tonghua City, was tortured by four labor camp guards for 18 days. The guards shocked him with electric batons both in the morning and afternoon. Mr. Zhang was deprived of sleep as well.

Ms. Wang Bing, Ms. Yu Shufen, Ms. Zhao Chunyan, Ms. Hu Yumei, and other practitioners have also been tortured.

On April 4, 2008, police searched the home of Ms. Liu, a practitioner in her 70s living on Wenku Street in Harbin City. At least three practitioners were taken into custody. In addition, Ms. Zhang Liqun and Mr. Wang Jiancai and his wife are also missing.

Around March 21, 2008, director of the Tuanjie Residential Community Police Station and officers of the Domestic Security Division took into custody Ms. Chai Xiumei, a practitioner in her 60s. The officers searched her home and drove her to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center. When they arrived, one officer grabbed Ms. Chai's collar and dragged her into the facility.

On March 24, 2008, the 610 Office of the Guan County Police Department submitted a list of practitioners to be taken to the forced labor camp to the Liaocheng City Police Division. Almost ten practitioners, including Mr. Zhang He, Mr, Gui You, and Mr. Shen Lianghua, were on the list.

Mr. Zhang Yinzhuang and Ms. Li Jinxiu, who is of Hui nationality, suffered from high blood pressure and heart problems after being taken into the detention center on February 28, 2008. On March 20, they were taken home by their families. Many practitioners remain in custody at the Guan County Detention Center and brainwashing center.

Around noon on April 11, 2008, Ms. Zhang Yanhua, a practitioner in Qianqiao Village in Changjia Township, Qingyun County, was taken into custody by the Qingyun County Police. The police also searched her home.

Ms. Sheng Guiying and Ms. Zhang Meilan, two practitioners who were earlier taken into custody in Qingyun County, have returned home.

On the afternoon of April 9, 2008, a coordinated campaign was launched by the Huanggang City Police Department, the State Security Department, and local police stations to capture practitioners in the city: Mr. Dai Youyuan, an employee at the Huanggang Postal Office; Ms. Yu Jinming at the Huanggang Electric Power, and her husband Mr. Lu; Ms. Long Xiang at the Huanggang Silk Factory, whose breast cancer was cured after she started practicing Falun Gong; and Ms. Wang Xizhen at the Huanggang Bedsheet Factory. It was reported that Ms. Long Xiang was handcuffed and shackled while being taken into custody. Ms. Wang and Mr. Lu were later released. Mr. Dai Youyuan, Ms. Long Xiang, and Ms. Yu Jinming are being held at the Huanggang City No. 2 Detention Center.

It has been verified that on the night of April 8, 2008, Li Jinbo (male), leader of the Crime Response Team of the Zengdu Police Department in Suizhou City, led other officers to the house rented by Ms. Zhang Ling. The officers took into custody Ms. Zhang Ling, 40, from Junchuan Town in Suizhou City; Ms. Li Yun, 27, from the Guayuan area in the southern suburb; and Mr. Fu Guoqiang, in his 40s, from Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The three practitioners are being held at the Suizhou City No. 2 Detention Center.

On the morning of April 9, 2008, Ms. Chen Ruizhen, a practitioner who works at the Anhua County branch of China Industrial Commercial Bank, and her father went to the Yuexi Village and Maluxi Village in Anhua County to distribute truth clarification materials. They were turned in to the police while going across the Bidanxi area and other villages. Officers of the Malu Town Police Station took them into custody at around 7:00 p.m. After being interrogated at the police station, Ms. Chen and her father were taken to the Dongping Town Police Station. Her father was released at 4:00 p.m. Ms. Chen was transferred to the Dongping County Detention Center.

On March 24, 2008, five practitioners were taken into custody by the Xianyang 610 Office and the Security Department of the Weihe Electric Generation Plant. After being held for 15 days at the Xianyang Drug Rehabilitation Center, the police refused to let their families take them home. The authorities are looking for facilities to hold brainwashing sessions.

Those who were arrested for transmitting signals into closed-circuit television, Ms. Zhang Zhimei, Ms. Zhang Yun, Ms. Wang Qinghui, Ms. Lu Shunli, and Ms. Li Xiaolan, were sentenced to prison on March 27, 2008. Ms. Zhang Zhimei was sentenced to three and a half years in prison, Ms. Zhang Yun and Ms. Lu Shunli were each sentenced to three years in prison, and Ms. Wang Qinghui and Ms. Li Xiaolan were each sentenced to four years in prison.

On January 3, 2008, the Shenzhou City Police Station took into custody over 30 practitioners in Xiuxian Square, including Ms. Lu Lianjun and her daughter-in-law, Ms. Lu Xinpai. Most practitioners have been released after the authorities extorted between 5,000 to 15,000 yuan from their families. The police held onto Ms. Lu and her daughter-in-law since their family has only paid 8,000 for both practitioners. Three other practitioners who refused to make any payment, Ms. Zhang Junmei, Mr. Geng Sanhuan, and Ms. Yang Lifang, have been sent to the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp.

On March 28, 2008, Mr. Yan Hujiao, in his 30s, is a practitioner in Shuangyan Village, Xiaotianshui Town, Qinzhou District, Tianshui City. On March 28, he was taken into police custody on his way to Wangchuan Township, Qinzhou District, to clarify the truth. On March 30, the police searched his home and confiscated a computer and 8,000 yuan in cash. Mr. Yan's whereabouts are unknown.

On April 10, 2008, Mr. Yang Yirong and Mr. Zhou Defu were turned in to the police for distributing truth clarification materials. The Qiubei County Domestic Security officers took the two practitioners into custody. The police also confiscated personal items while searching the home of two female practitioners without cause. Mr. Yang and Mr. Zhou are being held at the Qiubei Detention Center.

At around 7:00 a.m. on April 7, 2008, half a dozen police officers from the Luchuan County Police Department and the Lucheng Police Station broke into Mr. Lan Xiaobing's home. The officers searched the place and then took Mr. Lan to the Luchuan County Detention Center.

At around 10:00 a.m. the same day, seven or eight officers from the Wenquan Town Police Station arrived in two vehicles at the home of a practitioner in her 80s located at the Dongshan Brigade in Wenquan Village, Wenquan Town. The officers confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun and posters reading "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance."

On the morning of April 10, 2008, officers from the Yangluo Street Police Station took into custody Ms. Zhou Hongmei, a practitioner who lives on Yangluo Street in Xinzhou District, Wuhan City. The officers confiscated a computer and other personal items in her home. It has been reported that Ms. Zhou has been taken to Wuhan City.

On April 3, 2008, the police on Cangbu Street searched Mr. Xia Huorong's home on Cangbu Street. On April 8, the police on Cangbu Street searched the homes of Ms. Liu Mulan and Ms. Yan Qiong. On April 8, the police on Cangbu Street broke into Mr. Zhu Youshan's home for an unlawful search while no one was at home. On April 9, the police on Cangbu Street searched Mr. Lei Ping's home.

On April 9, 2008, the Zhalainuoer District Domestic Security Division in the Manzhouli area took into custody three practitioners and a non-practitioner who works in a pharmacy.

On March 16, 2008, Mr. Xiong Shaoxu and Mr. Yu Guangde in Wangcheng Town, Zaoyang City; Mr. Wei Qiming, a teacher at the Wangcheng Town High School; and another practitioner in Zaoyang City were turned in to the police while clarifying the truth in Wudian Town, Zaoyang City. The four practitioners remain in custody at the Zaoyang City No. 1 Detention Center on the grounds of maintaining security before and during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

On the morning of April 9, 2008, officers from the Gudianzi Police Station in Jilin City went to search practitioners' homes. It was the spring farm season, and the practitioners were not at home. The police broke into practitioners' homes again at night. They took into custody Mr. You Zuozhai; Mr. You's wife, Ms. Kan Shuxiang; and Mr. Li Yanwei and Mr. Li's wife, Ms. Ding Qin. The practitioners' whereabouts are unknown.

At around 8:30 a.m. on April 9, 2008, an official with the surname Jia at the 610 Office of the Xingye Neighborhood Administration Office in Kuancheng District, Changchun, a residential community director with the last name Liu, and other officials arrived at the homes of practitioners who were just released from Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Sun Hongjuan, Ms. Wang Lihua, Ms. Bai Yaqing, and their families have been harassed.

On April 9, 2008, Ms. Li Limei, a practitioner in Jiapigou Town, Huadian City, was taken into custody by the Dapuchai Police Station. Ms. Li has been taken to Dunhua City.

At around 5:00 p.m. on April 9, 2008, Mr. Wang Yiwen, a practitioner in Jinzhou District, was turned in to the police while posting self-adhesive truth clarification signs. Officers of the Youyi Police Station took her into custody. Ms. Wang was taken to the police station. On the afternoon of April 10, she was transferred to the Jinzhousanli Detention Center.

Ms. Xu Guifang, a practitioner from Yongfeng Village in Jinchuan Town, Huinan County, was released on medical parole due to her poor health while being unlawfully held at Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. Recently, head of the labor camp's administration section and director of the Jinchuan Police Station deceived Ms. Xu to get her to the political and judiciary committee. She was taken to forced labor from there.

Recently, the Guanghua Township Police Station and the township's central school have been poisoning students in the school with slanderous information about Falun Dafa, using the excuse of the upcoming Olympic Games.

On April 1, 2008, Mr. Bai Shaohua was secretly transferred to an undisclosed facility. His whereabouts remain unknown. Prior to the transfer, Mr. Bai had been in very weak physical condition. He was not able to walk unless supported by two people. He had been held in a "small cell" in the Dispatching Division of the Beijing Forced Labor Department.

When Mr. Bai was in Huairou Detention Center, the guards suspended him off the floor with chains and beat him for five days in a row. He was taken to the Qinghe Emergency Center when inmates tortured him to the brink of death. He has not recovered from his injuries.

On January 25, 2008, officers of the Doudian Police Station in Fangshan District, Beijing, broke into a practitioner's home and confiscated Falun Dafa books and materials. The practitioner has been forced to leave town with no place to stay.

On January 25, 2008, officers of the Doudian Police Station broke into Ms. Xurui Fangqiang's home and took Ms. Xurui, in her 50s, into custody. She was later sentenced to two years of forced labor.

At around 11:00 a.m. on March 31, 2008, Zhang Guangliang and three other officers from the Tianma Police Station in Daotian Town, Shouguang City, broke into Ms. Li Yingmei's home in Xiaonanhan Village in Daotian Town. The officers confiscated several Falun Dafa books and some telephone numbers. Three officers lifted Ms. Li and were about to throw her into the police vehicle, but her family intervened, and Ms. Li managed to not be taken into custody. The police returned twice in the afternoon to harass Ms. Li at her home.

A practitioner with the last name Ding (gender unkown) was taken into custody early April 2008 upon returning to her hometown of Liwuguan Town in Jiaonan City. At noon on April 10, Ms. Wang Xiuyun and Ms. Lu Yuexian were taken into custody.

On the evening of April 8, 2008, Li Jinbo (male), a Suizhou City police officer, and members of the Suizhou City 610 Office broke into Ms. Zhou Shouying's home. The took Ms. Zhou, in her 60s, into custody and confiscated some of her personal items. Two other practitioners taken into custody at the same time were Ms. Li Yun, 28, and Ms. Zhang Ling. The practitioners are being held at the Suizhou City No. 2 Detention Center.
