I know a very diligent practitioner. She's about 70 years old. At the end of 2007, I heard that she was paralyzed in a fall and was bedridden. I was quite concerned and felt sorry for her, but I had not gotten a chance to visit her.
Walking down the street the other day, I saw a person coming toward me. From the height, shape, and the way she walked so fast, it looked like her. When she got closer, it was indeed her. Her fine face was peaceful and relaxed, with a hint of a smile. Not only did the tribulation not defeat her, it made her stronger and more persevering, and younger looking, too. I examined her from head to toe and asked her about her situation over the past five years. She calmly started to tell me her story:
My daughter suffered a severe psychiatric disorder for over ten years and did not improve after several in-hospital treatments. At one point she had not eaten for five days and had become a skeleton. Not wanting to see her starve to death, I force-fed her. But the evil forces in another dimensions took advantage of the situation and controlled my daughter, who pushed me so hard that I fell on the floor. I fell on something, and I lay on the floor unable to move. With a lot of effort, my family members moved me onto the bed. I was immobilized. I could not sit or turn or use the restroom by myself.
They took me to the hospital to have an x-ray. The x-ray revealed that one of the disks in my spine had slipped, and one of them was fractured. The displaced disk was pinching a nerve, causing me pain and paralysis. The doctor said it was hard to recover from a situation like that in a short time. Especially for someone my age. The only thing to do, he said, was to stay in bed and rest. The situation might remain the same for 10 or 20 years. I knew what the doctor said was exactly what the old forces had arranged.
Paralyzed and bedridden: is this the way to be? Just follow the arrangement of the old forces, follow the path that they designated? No! Teacher wants us to totally reject the old forces' arrangements, even if we did have an agreement with them in past history. Teacher does not recognize them, and neither do I. I want to follow what Teacher said and listen to Teacher's arrangement. I am a practitioner in the Fa-rectification period. I have a mission to help Teacher to rectify the Fa and save sentient beings. In this final stage of the Fa-rectification, rushing to save people is so critical. The old forces took the opportunity to try to defeat and persecute me and thereby destroying sentient beings. I will by no means accept such an arrangement. Even though I do have karma, I will not accept such an arrangement. Teacher has arranged for us to do the three things well and to fulfill our pre-historic promises, and in the meantime, correct ourselves and eliminate karma.
Now that the old forces had created such a huge tribulation for me, what should I do? The Fa came to my mind. Teacher said:
"Fa-rectification is utterly solemn. When you first took up cultivation Master at that time did for you everything that should have been done. Now it's up to you to battle through tests with righteous thoughts. Master can help you when your righteous thoughts are sufficient. But when your righteous thoughts are lacking and you can't meet the standard, if Master were to do something, things as major as I just described would be involved. Thus, once the cultivation path of a Dafa disciple has been arranged, basically nobody can just rashly change it, and no one--good or bad--can do anything to you. Even when someone wants to give you something special and good, he isn't able to add it in. And if someone wants to give you something special that was not part of what you originally had in your cultivation, or if someone wants to go overboard persecuting you, they won't be able to. Exceptions only come about when you, yourself, do poorly." ("Teaching the Fa in the city of Los Angeles, 2006").
Through Fa study, my mind was clear. I was not disappointed or in despair. I was determined to go through my tribulations with righteous thoughts so that I would not disappoint Teacher. I began to read and listen to the Fa, do the exercises, and send forth righteous thoughts to clear the field around me while I was in bed.
In the meantime I did physical exercises to strengthen myself. I began by trying to turn, then sit up. Every move was accompanied by great pain and lots of sweat. With every move, I asked Teacher to help me and recited in my mind: "When it's difficult to endure, you can endure it. When it's impossible to do, you can do it. (Zhuan Falun) and "Tempering the Will" in Hong Yin. Pretty soon, I found that I was making remarkable improvement every day. A month later, a practitioner who came to my home learned of my situation. She helped me by sending forth righteous thoughts to cleanse my body and discussed with me to help me look inward and elevate according to the Fa. My righteous thoughts became stronger. I gained more confidence, and my will to overcome this tribulation became more determined.
"Cultivation depends on one's own efforts, while the transformation of gong is done by one's master." (Zhuan Falun). Teacher saw that I had a determined will and strong righteous thoughts and began to truly help me. Originally, it was extremely difficult when I tried to stand or walk. Suddenly, one day, I felt kind of warm where my back was injured. I tried to move: I could straighten my back! I straightened my legs. That was OK, too. It was a miracle. I was OK! It did not hurt that much. I tried to walk. Yes, I could do it. How come I recovered so fast? While I was still in wonder and excitement, I felt a strong current of warmth going from my head to my toes. I knew it was Teacher cleansing my body. In another dimension, Teacher fixed my displaced disk, repaired all the injuries, and restored the damaged nerves. Human beings cannot do this. Modern medicine can never do this. Only our great Teacher is capable of creating miracles in the human world. My eyes were filled with tears.
Then I began to walk normally and do household chores. After 70 days, my health totally recovered. I began to clarify the truth and urge people to quit the CCP. Here I want to thank Teacher for saving me. With his enormous effort, he created a miracle and gave me a new life.
