(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 39 cities or counties in 7 provinces. In this report, 20 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 45 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Chongqing City] Mr. Kuang Xiaochun Taken into Custody
Mr. Kuang Xiaochun was working odd jobs in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. He was taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center in Chengdu City and unlawfully held there for several months. Officials of the Jiangjin District 610 Office and those of the Comprehensive Management Office of the Degan Neighborhood Administration Office secretly took him to Chongqing. Several days later, they secretly took him to Jiangjin District, Chongqing. Mr. Kuang has been held at a brainwashing center located within the Kongda Transportation and Development Company in the Beigumen area in Jiangjin District, Chongqing. His family has not received any word from the authorities regarding his whereabouts.
Mr. Kuang Xiaochun was unlawfully captured after going to Beijing to appeal in September 1999. He was taken back to Jiangjin District, Chongqing for fifteen days. He was then taken to a brainwashing center and held there for over a month. In 2001, Mr. Kuang was arrested for clarifying the truth and distributing truth clarification materials. He was illegally sentenced to three years by the Jiangjin Court. He was later rescued and returned home. Mr. Kuang remained under constant harassment while working odd jobs locally. On one occasion, he was taken to the prison, and he had to escape by climbing over the wall. Mr. Kuang has since been forced to stay away from his home to avoid arrest. The police came to his home every day. They threatened his family, saying that if Mr. Kuang was not located and turned in to the police, members of his family would be dismissed from their jobs.
2. [Gaocheng County, Hebei Province] Four Practitioners Taken into Custody While Clarifying the Truth
Ms. Wang Yuexia and Ms. Ji Junyan (from Yangma Village in Zengcun Town, Gaocheng County), Mr. Ji Xiaoran, and another practitioner from Zengcun Town went to Beimeng Village in Xiguan Town to distribute truth clarification materials on the evening of April 15, 2008. Officers of the Xiguan Town Police Station followed and captured the four practitioners. The practitioners have been transferred to the Gaocheng Detention Center.
3. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhuo Wenning, an Outstanding Teacher in Yi County, Taken into Custody
Recently, the Domestic Security Division of the Yi County Police Department took the March 2008 sessions of the National People's Congress and the National People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing, as well the upcoming Olympics, as excuses for taking practitioners into custody. Ms. Zhuo Wenning, an outstanding teacher at the Yi County No. 4 Kindergarten, was taken into custody. The police viciously beat her and unlawfully interrogated her.
At around 8:00 p.m. on March 4, 2008, Tian Changjun (male), head of the Domestic Security Division, and a dozen police officers, led by Party official of Peishan Village in Peishan Town Ma Zhenjiang (male), arrived in four police vehicles at Peishan Village. The police searched the homes of Mr. Li Baojin, Ms. Zhang Shiying, and Ms. Ma Shuzhen. They took Mr. Li Baojin, Ms. Zhang Shiying, and her husband Mr. Ma Zengjiang to the Yi County Detention Center.
When the police searched Ms. Zhang Shiying's home, they ransacked the rooms, the yard, the stables with pigs and oxen, and even the cattle feed. The officers took a DVD burner, a computer, two printers, five boxes of paper, thirty copies of Falun Dafa books, a set of satellite antenna, DVDs, a television set, a VCD player, over 5,000 yuan in cash, and flashlights and a radio used by their children.
Ms. Zhang Shiying and her husband remain in custody. Their family has been to the Domestic Security Division several times demanding the release of the couple without success. They have developed serious symptoms of illness after being held for over a month.
Ms. Ma Shuzhen is in her seventies. The officers took possession of all her valuables then forced her husband to fingerprint a sheet with pre-drafted content.

4. [Laiyang City, Shandong Province] Additional Information on Torture and Interrogation of Mr. Ma Qingchun
On April 14, 2008, Mr. Ma Qingchun, a practitioner in Laiyang City, Shandong Province, was taken into custody by a dozen 610 Office agents at the Laiyang City Central Hospital. The police tortured him during the interrogation, but Mr. Ma refused to give in, and he suffered numerous injuries. On April 15, the police unlawfully searched the home of Mr. Ma's parents in Xixia City. Mr. Ma Qingchun is being held at the Laiyang Party School Brainwashing Center.

5. [Rongcheng City, Shandong Province] Head of 610 Office Leads Officers to Practitioners' Homes to Harass Them
At around 3:00 p.m. on April 8, 2008, Xing Jianping (gender unknown), head of the Rongcheng City 610 Office, and the director of the Qingyutan Police Station in Xunshan Town, broke into Ms. Ma Yuhua's home in Qingyutan Village. The following day, Xing led three or four practitioners to the home of Ms. Leng Xinhui in Xiaguojia Village in Xiazhuang Town, Rongcheng City. The police were trying to search Ms. Leng's home, but they were stopped by Ms. Leng and her husband.
6. [Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province] Officers of the Xiangyang Town Police Station Harass Mr. Wu Xiangang at His Home
One day before the Communist Party's Seventeenth National Congress in October 2007, Zhou Defa (male), police chief of the Xiangyang Town Police Station in Wuchang City, and other officers broke into Mr. Wu Xiangang's home at around 8:00 p.m. Zhou had engaged in the abuse of practitioners Mr. Wu and Mr. Meng Fandong on numerous occasions before. This time, the officers tried to force Mr. Wu and his family members (who are not practitioners) to sign statements that would guarantee that Mr. Wu would stop practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Wu and his family rejected the police's demand. The officers took pictures of Mr. Wu and forced his family to pay 30 yuan to cover the cost.
Mr. Wu was unlawfully detained in 2001 and paid a fine of 3,000 yuan. In 2002, he was unlawfully sentenced to four years in prison for distributing truth-clarification leaflets and served the term in prison from March 27, 2002 to March 27, 2006. Mr. Meng Fanzhong was sentenced to three years for distributing truth clarification leaflets and released on September 27, 2005.
7. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Kong Hongyun Remains in Custody
On March 14, 2008, Ms. Kong Hongyun, a practitioner in Baoding City, Hebei Province, was taken into custody by officers of the Yimian Police Station and the Xinshi District Domestic Security Division. As of April 15, Ms. Kong was still being held at the Baoding Detention Center. Her family went to the detention center several times to send clothes and to visit her. The detention guards have rejected both requests.
Prior to March 14, the police secretly went into the clinic operated by Ms. Kong under the excuse of taking infusions in order to record her conversations and otherwise monitor the place. On March 14, the police searched both her home and the clinic. They took possession of the key to the clinic and sealed it off.

8. [Puning City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Chen Huijun Taken to Sanshui Forced Labor Camp
On the evening of February 7, 2008, Ms. Chen Huijun, a practitioner in Puning City, Guangdong Province, was taken into custody at Guiyu Town, Chaoyang District, Shantou City by officers from the Guiyu Town Police Station. The officers beat Ms. Chen so viciously that she suffered bleeding from her internal organs. When she was taken to the Chaoyang District Detention Center, she could not take care of herself due to severe injuries. Others had to feed her. On April 15, Ms. Chen was secretly taken to the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp.

On March 4, 2008, it was exposed that officers from the Daleng Township Police harassed Mr. Lu Hewen at his home. On March 28, Wang Xu (male), director of the police station, Sun Cai (male), deputy director of the police station, and other officers arrived at the Office of Taoli Village. The police ordered village officials to designate people to keep an eye on practitioners and report to the police station each day. This has severely interfered with the life and work of practitioners and their families.

11. [Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhang Yuke on Hunger Strike Protesting Persecution
On March 4, 2008, Mr. Zhang Yuke and his wife Ms. Yu Fengyun, practitioners in Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province, were taken into custody. They are now being held at a detention center. Mr. Zhang has been on a hunger strike for over ten days protesting the unlawful detention. He has recently been taken to a hospital and brutally force-fed. Mr. Zhang has been restricted to a bed with handcuffs and shackles.
On November 24, 2006, Mr. Ma Desheng was taken into custody by officers of the Gongzhuling City Police Department and the domestic security police. He was sentenced to two years of forced labor. Recently, Mr. Ma was taken back to the Gongzhuling Detention Center for escalated abuse. He has been unlawfully held there for over half a month.
12. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Gao Suming and Her Sister Ms. Gao Qianming Taken into Custody
At around 7:00 a.m. on April 15, 2008, Ms. Gao Suming and her sister Ms. Gao Qianming were taken into custody at their homes by the police. Their father, who is in his seventies, has been left at home alone.
13. [Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Jiao Shifang Unlawfully Taken to Forced Labor Camp
At the end of February 2008, Ms. Jiao Shifang, who worked at the Cuiluan Forestry Department in Yichun City, was taken into custody by officers of the local police department and the 610 Office. She has been unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor.
In another development, the police searched Ms. Shi Lijun's home.
14. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] Ms. Xu Deqin Taken into Custody While Distributing Truth Clarification Materials
On April 14, Ms. Xu Deqin, 57, a practitioner in Lixia District, Jinan City, was taken into custody by officers from the Keyuan Road Police Station in Lixia District while she was distributing truth clarification DVDs and brochures. She remains in police custody.
15. [Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Yang Yanchun Unlawfully Sentenced to Prison; No Information Available on Her Situation
Ms. Yang Yanchun, 38, is a practitioner at the Dongfanghong Forestry Department in Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province. On December 7, 2006, she was taken to the Dongfanghong Detention Center by the Dongfanghong Forestry Police Department.
On August 22, 2008, Ms. Yang was unlawfully sentenced to seven years in prison and taken to the No. 9 Ward in the Harbin Women's Prison. Her older sister was the only one in the family who was allowed to meet with her briefly.
On January 18, 2008, Ms. Yang Yanchun's older sister mailed Ms. Yang clothes, bedsheets, and socks to the address she took note of when Ms. Yang was taken to the prison. On February 18, the package was returned. On February 19, Ms. Yang's mother and uncle went to Harbin City to visit her. Prison officials denied their admission. There is no word on Ms. Yang's situation.
Other practitioners who are being held at the Harbin Women's Prison include Ms. Wang Yanmei, who is 46. Practitioners held at the Suihua Forced Labor Camp include Mr. Zhang Kunping, who is around 40 years old.
16. [Baicheng City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Shuqing and Her Husband Unlawfully Held at Detention Center
On the afternoon of April 11, 2008, Ms. Wang Shuqing and her husband Mr. Wang Jiafu (who is not a practitioner) were taken into custody by several officers from the Minren Police Station staked out at Ms. Wang's home. The officers searched their home and confiscated Mr. Wang's computer. Ms. Wang and her husband are both being held at the Baicheng City Detention Center.
17. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Zhao Lan Taken into Custody; Her Whereabouts Unknown
On the afternoon of May 4, 2007, Ms. Zhao Lan, in her fifties, was taken into custody by the Nangang District police. No information is available about her current situation.
18. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Elderly Ms. Wang Guilan Taken into Custody
Ms. Wang Guilan, 70, is from Fuwang Village, Gaoli Town, Hanting District in Weifang City, Shandong Province. At around 10:00 a.m. on April 16, 2008, several police officers broke into her home. The officers confiscated Falun Dafa books, weekly publications, and a photo of the founder of Falun Gong. Ms. Wang was taken into custody.
19. [Qihe County, Shandong Province] Ms. Huang Yuping Taken to Forced Labor Camp for the Third Time
On the morning of March 31, 2008, Ms. Huang Yuping was turned in to the police while clarifying the truth to owners and shop assistants at the Hongwei Fruits Wholesale Store. Half a dozen police officers from the Qihe County 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division took Ms. Huang to the Political Security Division of the Qihe County Police Department. Ms. Huang was first taken to the Qihe County Detention Center, which did not grant her admission. She was taken to the Yucheng County Detention Center, which again refused to admit her. Ms. Huang was eventually taken to the Dezhou Detention Center.
By 12:30 p.m., the police, led by Huang Jilong (male) of the Domestic Security Division, unlawfully searched Ms. Huang's home with a detention certificate that charged her of "disrupting implementation of law and social order." The police confiscated Falun Dafa books, electronic versions of books, an MP3 player, pictures of the founder of Falun Gong, an incense burner, a computer, a printer, and truth clarification materials.
On April 14, Ms. Huang Yuping was unlawfully sentenced to 27 months of forced labor. She has been taken to the Jinan No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp. This is the third time she has been taken to a forced labor camp.

On the morning of April 14, 2008, Mr. Liu Haigang and his older sister Ms. Liu Caiduo were working in the barbershop they operated in Shahe Town, Laizhou City. Over twenty police officers from the Laizhou City 610 Office rushed in and took them into custody. The officers confiscated an MP3 player Mr. Liu carried in his pocket. The whereabouts of Mr. Liu and his sister are unknown.
22. [Shanghai] Ms. Tang Weimin Held at Brainwashing Center
Ms. Tang Weimin is a practitioner from Xuhui District, Shanghai. She works at the Shanghai Theater Company. Early in February 2008, she was taken into custody while at work by agents of the Xuhui District 610 Office. She has not returned home. It was reported that she had been held at the Qingpu Brainwashing Center.

On March 24, 2008, the Guye District Court in Tangshan City held hearings on the cases of Ms. Bi Junqing and Ms. Wang Shouping without notifying their families. Ms. Bi and Ms. Wang are being held at the Tangshan City No. 1 Detention Center.

At around 4:10 p.m. on April 17, 2008, a dozen police officers from the Zhonghua Police Station and officials from the Zhanghuo Neighborhood Administration Office in Chikan District, Zhanjiang City, arrived at the store where Ms. Chen Zhuoyi works. The police took her into custody. Ms. Chen is being held at the Zhanjiang City Legal School.
In the same week, several police officers went to the Wang Xiuqing Dental Clinic on Haitang Road in Chikan District and dragged Ms. Wang Xiuqing, a practitioner in her fifties, into a vehicle. About ten practitioners were already in the vehicle.

At around 3:00 p.m. on April 18, 2008, Ms. Dong Guiwen, who lives in Zhujia Village in Lishuang Town in Qingzhou City, was again taken into custody by officers of the local police station. The officers took possession of all her Falun Dafa books. Ms. Dong had just been released from the Jinan Women's Prison on February 26, 2008, where she had been unlawfully held for four years.

On April 8, 2008, Ms. Liu Yuezhen was on her way to Yunchun City to work on odd jobs. She was turned in to the Shichang Police Station for posting truth clarification signs. Her family asked the police to return the items, but the officers denied taking anything.

Ms. Mu Guangjie, 69, lives on Xiadu Road in Haizhu District. She was taken into custody for distributing truth clarification materials in mid-March 2008. She was held at the Haizhu District Detention Center on Nanzhou Road. It has been reported that she was transferred to the Chatou Women's Detention Center. Ms. Mu Guangjie has been mistreated on numerous occasions.
36. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] An Elderly Practitioner Taken into Custody
Ten days ago, an elderly practitioner (gender unknown) in Qiqihar City was taken into custody. When officials of the local residential committee went to the practitioner's home under the excuse of doing a survey, they spotted a picture of the founder of Falun Gong. The officers alerted the police, and officers from the Anshun Road Police Station took the practitioner into custody. The practitioner resisted the police custody with righteous thoughts and the practitioner's family also demanded an unconditional release. The practitioner was able to return home the same day.

They were taken into custody by the township police. The director of the Chenxiang Township Police Station took the three practitioners to the Guangshui City No. 1 Detention Center.
40. [Xinmin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhao Min Taken into Custody
On April 12, 2008, Ms. Zhao Min took the train to get to Kaiyuan City from Shenyang City. She was taken into custody on-board the train, which ran from Dalian City, Liaoning Province to Hailar City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The police took her all the way to Hailar City, Inner Mongolia.
41. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Ms. Li Xiulan and Six Other Practitioners Taken into Custody
On April 13, 2008, Ms. Li Xiulan and others were in fellow practitioner Ms. Jin's home. The police took into custody a total of seven practitioners at Ms. Jin's home on April 13. They searched Ms. Jin and Mr. Li's homes and confiscated printers and computers.
42. [Foshan City, Guangdong Province] Two Practitioners Taken into Custody While Distributing Truth Clarification Materials
In mid-March 2008, Ms. Tan Mei, a practitioner in her sixties who lives in Chancheng District, Foshan City, was taken into custody by the police while distributing truth clarification materials in Liwan District, Guangzhou City. The police searched Ms. Tan's home for three hours.
Early in April 2008, an elderly practitioner in her sixties in Foshan City was taken into custody after she was turned in to the police for distributing truth clarification materials in the Shaoguan area in Guangzhou City. Her home was also searched.
