Escaping Serious Injury During the Earthquake

A massive earthquake struck China's Sichuan Province early in the afternoon of May 12, 2008. Hundreds of schools and houses collapsed and thousands of students and residents were buried in the ruins--what a tragedy! Beichuan County was hit hardest. Luckily, however, many people were able to miraculously escape this unexpected natural disaster. Below are some of their stories.

On May 12 at noon, a class of students at Beichuan High School who were close to graduation did not have a scheduled class. They asked Ms. Lin, the physical education teacher, who is a Falun Gong practitioner, to give them one more physical education lesson. Ms. Lin did not have another class to teach, so she agreed.

As soon as Ms. Lin and the students walked onto the playground, the earthquake occurred. The school buildings collapsed within seconds, and a crack opened in the ground over 60 cm wide (about 2 feet wide). One child fell into the gap but was immediately pulled out by Ms. Lin. The schoolyard is bordered by mountains. A huge landslide was triggered by the earthquake. Stones, large and small, rolled down the hill, and smashed into Ms. Lin, hitting and bruising her hands, face, and back. At that split second, Ms. Lin thought about the children's safety, and immediately asked Teacher for help, "Teacher, please save us!" All of a sudden, the stones stopped falling, as if they had received a command. Ms. Lin immediately clarified the truth, telling the students that during this crisis, those who understood the truth about Falun Gong and withdrew from the Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers would be safe. All 23 students learned the truth, and they all withdrew from the Communist Youth League and the Young Pioneers. They all signed a statement to that effect using their real names. Since there was no paper on the playground, they opened a paper box, and everyone solemnly signed his or her name on it, at the end of a precious "Three-Withdrawal Statement." When the earthquake happened, Mr. Xiao was in their 4^th floor apartment in Beichuan County. The building was collapsing, and it was too late for him to escape. However, he was "ejected" to the 2^nd floor. (He used the word "eject" to describe a magical force), then he was immediately "ejected" to the ground floor. In front of the ground floor where he landed was a hole. He went through the hole and came out on the other side. He had only minor injures on his hand and head. It is believed that this reflects the principle that, "When a person practices a righteous way, the whole family benefits."

In Xinkai Village, Wudu Town, Mianzhu City, lives a couple, and the wife owns a mushroom farm. Both husband and wife always take a nap around noon and often sleep deeply. On May 12, somehow the husband could not sleep. After the earthquake started, the husband quickly carried his wife out the door. They were down on the ground with their nose and face covered in dust. When they came to their senses, the house had already collapsed.

Both husband and wife withdrew from the CCP some time ago. They were happy that they had escaped this disaster, and some would say that their withdrawing from the CCP helped to guarantee their safety .

A Falun Gong practitioner's relative lives in Li County. During the earthquake, his house was the only one that did not collapse; nearby houses all collapsed. He felt sad for his neighbors and felt lucky because he too believes that, "When a person practices a righteous way, the whole family benefits."
