Eliminating the Attachment to the Beijing Olympic Games

(Clearwisdom.net) As the Beijing Olympic Games approach, Communist regime officials have taken a series of evil measures, especially in their treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. They have ordered that practitioners be monitored, arrested, and detained. This can also be seen as a symptom that the Communist Party is breathing its last breath. Thus, we should strengthen our righteous thoughts and disintegrate the Party's attempt to use the pretext of holding the Olympic Games to persecute practitioners. We must not even acknowledge the symptom that the evildoers are breathing their last breath, and should do well the three things that Dafa disciples should do.

When I recently shared my thoughts with other practitioners though, I found that many of us, me included, were preoccupied with the Olympic Games. We never thought that the evil Party would last until the Olympic Games and that it would have been destroyed by then. Overall, many practitioners have developed an attachment to the Olympic Games, which is essentially a different form of attachment to time. Isn't this a strong attachment that stymies us on our cultivation path to divinity? Is it a human notion? If this attachment is not purged, will we be able to reach consummation when our cultivation has really come to an end?

Cultivation is solemn and serious--more serious than anything else in human society, it is above the realm of ordinary people. The old forces can easily exploit any of our faults or notions. As a matter of fact, preoccupation with the Olympic Games means that we wish the games were over already, and the evildoers were no longer persecuting us. This is actually an attachment to one's own pursuit of comfort and is lacking in compassion for the sentient beings.

In 2002, Master said:

"In the future, when you look back on this period of time [you'll find that] it was only an instant, that it was nothing. At the beginning of this persecution, each day felt like a year to you all. Even during this recent period of time, many students have been wondering, 'When will it end? When is this persecution going to end?' Some people are thus thinking about Master having written in his poems that spring is coming, (everyone laughs) and think, 'Oh, so it'll end in the spring?' I also mentioned autumn in my poems, (everyone laughs) so some students said, 'It must mean it's going to end in autumn.' Then when autumn was over and it didn't end, they seemed to be somewhat disappointed. Think about it, isn't that using ordinary human thinking to look at these things?" ("Touring North America to Teach the Fa," March 2002)

Master also talked about the incident on April 25, 1999. Because of the incident, many practitioners had become attached to that premier, a loophole taken advantage of by the old forces. This was an expensive lesson for which we paid a big price. It was excusable then to make such a mistake, but it has now been nine years, and while we are on the path of validating the Fa and saving sentient beings, we should have become increasingly clearheaded, rational, and mature. Why do we still repeat a past mistake?

Fellow practitioners, whether the evil Party disintegrates before, during, or after the Olympic Games, we should be ever aware of the urgency of time and try our best to save sentient beings. We should not be attached to time, thinking about the "end" of the persecution and cultivation. As the final phase of our cultivation approaches, we will face more solemn tests. Let's eliminate all attachments and "fight for" the sentient beings with the old forces. In this very precious period we should save more lives, live up to the title of the Fa-Rectification period Dafa disciples, and not cause Master to worry.
