Shanhaiguan Falun Dafa Practitioner Mr. Wei Danquan Illegally Sentenced to Four-Year Prison Term

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Wei, a Shanhaiguan practitioner from Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, was a military officer at the Shanhaiguan Airport. He was suspended from his job because he practiced Falun Dafa, and he has been repeatedly persecuted.

Mr. Wei was illegally arrested by police and held for an illegal trial twice by the court. During the second trial, even though he had committed no crime and broke no laws, he was sentenced to four years of imprisonment for practicing Falun Dafa.

Mr. Wei didn't accept the court sentence, intending to appeal his case to a higher judicial authority.

On April 30, 2004, while Mr. Wei was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong in the Jiaoshan area, he was arrested by officers from the Shanhaiguan Police Department. Among the six practitioners who were unlawfully arrested by the police at that time, four were sentenced to imprisonment in October 2004, while one was sentenced to three years imprisonment and has since been released.

During that time, Mr. Wei was very sick with pulmonary tuberculosis and unable to get out of bed.

On May 13, 2008, the Shanhaiguan Police Department again sought to unlawfully persecute Mr. Wei.

At 8:00 a.m. on May 26, 2008, nine police officers arrived at Mr. Wei's company and arrested Mr. Wei, imprisoning him in the Qinhuangdao City No. 1 Detention Center.

Mr. Wei refused to confess to anything or sign his name to a document confirming the fabricated charges against him.

Mr. Wei denied any wrongdoing to the police, and as a result, the police intensified their persecution against him, encouraging the court authorities to give him the maximum prison sentence.

On the morning of June 10, 2008, the Shanhaiguan Court secretly held an illegal trial, assigning an attorney to Mr. Wei. Mr. Wei fainted in court.

On June 23, the Shanhaiguan Court held another illegal trial, charging Mr. Wei. with fabricated charges, and sentencing him to four years of imprisonment. Mr. Wei refused to accept the court's decision, planning to appeal his case to a higher judicial authority in ten days.

According to reports, Mr. Wei is now very weak. He is unable to lift his head.

Mr. Wei had pulmonary tuberculosis. According to national law, people with pulmonary tuberculosis should not be sentenced to forced labor camps. However, Mr. Wei was sentenced to forced labor several times.

During his imprisonment, another inmate was also infected with pulmonary tuberculosis.
