Numerous Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Chicheng County, Hebei Province, in Order to "Maintain Harmony" for the Olympic Games

(Clearwisdom.net) As the Olympic Games approach, in order to maintain so-called "harmony," the Chinese Communist Party's Political and Legal Committee and the 610 Office of Chicheng County, Hebei Province consistently carried out orders from their authorities and pressured local government offices to persecute Falun Gong practitioners throughout the county. As a result, many practitioners have been illegally arrested and their belongings confiscated. On June 25, at the eleven ports of exit, officers searched every person who was leaving the county. No one was allowed to leave without presenting identification. To prevent Falun Gong practitioners from going to Beijing, they ordered the officials in the work units where Falun Dafa practitioners work, and the villages where they live, to either harass or deceive the practitioners in order take away their IDs. They also arranged for many people to monitor practitioners.

On June 12, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners Luo Meiling and Wang Shuqin were arrested. On June 15, practitioners Chen Xiuying and Ren Fu were arrested. It is confirmed that all four practitioners were detained and have been sentenced to forced labor camps. Chen Xiuying was sentenced to two years of forced labor and the other three were each sentenced to one year of forced labor. On June 28, they were sent to the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp.

On June 22, Falun Gong practitioner Ningning was arrested by local police in Longmensuo Town and her home was ransacked. She is now detained at Zhangjiakou City Detention Center.

At 10:00 a.m. on June 29, the deputy secretary of the Chinese Communist Party's Political and Legal Committee of Chicheng County, Liu Cheng, along with three other local officials including the Community Party's deputy secretary of Yangtian Township, Xu Bingyu, rushed into Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Yunchan's home. Ms. Zhang was the only person home at that time. The four officials searched three rooms and took away all Falun Gong related items (They also tore up a Dafa calendar, Master Li's photos and a couplet.) They did not find anything worth taking, so they ordered Zhang Yunchan to hand over her Falun Gong books and CDs. Ms. Zhang kind-heartedly advised them not to treat Falun Gong practitioners badly. She told them that Falun Gong practitioners are good people. Liu refused to listen and yelled, "Are you going to give them to me or not? If you don't, I will call for reinforcements." He pulled out this cell phone and called the police station. Zhang Yongxin of the National Security Group answered Liu's call and said that he was the only one at the police station. Liu insisted that he still needed to come, even if he was the only one there. When Zhang Yunchan saw that Liu refused to give up, she escaped.

The officials searched Ms. Zhang's entire house and confiscated her Falun Gong books. In order to arrest Zhang Yunchang, the authorities sealed off all exits from the village.
