Li Wenhe's Family is Repeatedly Harassed (Baoding City, Hebei Province)

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 7, 2008, four village cadres led by Li Tongxin, the Party committee secretary of Daxinzhuang Village in Xiantai Township, Mancheng County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, went to the home of Mr. Li Wenhe, a Falun Gong practitioner. They said that their superior had instructed them to monitor Li Wenhe's home 24 hours a day. They demanded that Mr. Li write a guarantee statement, which he refused to do. The next day Li Tongxin shouted he would arrest Mr. Li and his family. Li Wenhe's son, Li Zhenning, was taken away by a plainclothes officer on March 12, 2008, because he had two truth-clarifying CDs in his possession. His family has been repeatedly harassed and threatened ever since.

On the morning of July 13, Li Tongxin and village officials harassed the family again. They said, "The Olympic games are coming soon and the situation is more strict. Those who have 'criminal records' or a record of appealing to the government, especially Falun Gong practitioners, must hand in their permanent residence cards and IDs." Li Wenhe asked, "Why have the Olympic Games made things so terrible? We did not do anything bad; why are we being treated like this?" Li Tongxin had to admit, "Yes, the Communist Party cannot be reasoned with!" Li Wenhe's family questioned him, asking "You monitor us, ask us to write 'guarantees,' and confiscate our permanent residency cards and IDs. What else? Is it true that your real purpose is to put us in jail?" Li Tongxin sneered, "You are right." Later he retracted his words and tried to deceive us. In the end, he said, "Hurry up if you want to hand in your permanent residence cards and IDs. We won't force you if you don't. We will report the facts and the procuratorate will come in a second (i.e. to arrest them). Discuss it among yourselves. I'll wait for you in the office." The family refused the request, but have left their home to avoid further harassment.
