Two Senior Women Arrested as Police Break into their Homes in Maoming City, Guandong Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Authorities in Maoming City, Guandong Province conducted widespread arrests of practitioners in the run up to the Olympics. On the afternoon of August 1, 2008, police forced their way into the homes of two seniors, Ms. Li Shunhua and Ms. Luo Ji, and arrested them.

Ms. Li Shunhua, in her 70s, is arrested and taken to brainwashing center

At around 3 p.m. on the afternoon of August 1, a group of police officers arrived at Ms. Li Shunhua's home and broke down her door. Eight hoodlums overturned drawers and cabinets, ransacking the home. They confiscated three sacks of personal belongings, including a television, a video player and Dafa books. The police took Ms. Li to the Hexi District Brainwashing Center in Maoming City.

Ms. Li had been taken to a brainwashing center eight years before. In December 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested and taken back to Maoming City. She was detained at the No. 2 Detention Center for six months, then taken to Maoming Brainwashing Center for one month.

Ms. Luo Ji, in her 60s, is arrested

On the afternoon of August 1, 2008, the police also broke into the home of Ms. Luo Ji and took her to the Hexi District Brainwashing Center in Maoming City. When Ms. Luo's son returned home to eat, he noticed that the home's burglar-proof door and wooden door were both broken. The home had been ransacked and his mother was missing. The police left a note saying that because Ms. Luo practiced Falun Gong, they had taken her away.

Ms Luo Ji started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. When she went to Beijing in October 2000 to appeal for Falun Dafa, she was arrested, taken back to the No. 2 Detention Center in Maoming City, and detained for 15 days. In December 2000, she once again went to appeal. On the way, local 610 Office personnel arrested her and took her to the No. 2 Detention Center. She was forced to work 16-18 hours every day and wasn't allowed to practice Falun Gong. Ms. Luo went on a hunger strike to resist. She was carried out of the warehouse by guard Mo (given name unknown), the doctor at the jail and several male inmates. They held her to the ground and force-fed her.

Because Ms. Luo Ji was firm in her belief, she was sentenced to a year and a half in a forced labor camp on March 23, 2001. She was taken to the Second Ward at Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province. She was tortured and her sentence was extended by three months when she refused to give up the practice of Falun Gong.

On September 19, 2002, Ms. Luo was taken back to the Maoming Brainwashing Center. When policeman Zheng Guowei saw her doing the exercises, he handcuffed her hands behind her back and locked her to the window for several days straight. The guards at Maoming Brainwashing Center have tried everything to force Ms. Luo to abandon the practice, however all means have failed.

At the end of 2003, Ms. Luo once again went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, causing her body to become weak. After returning home, the 610 Office personnel often harassed her over the phone and told the gate guard at her home to monitor her whereabouts, violating her personal freedom.

On September 15, 2005, as Ms. Luo Ji was clarifying the facts about Falun Gong, the 610 Office personnel arrested her. She went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution and was brutally force-fed. Several of her teeth were broken and fell out in the process.
