On July 10, 2008, police attempted to extort 2,000 yuan from Ms. Hou Xiaoxia, a practitioner from Shibeiwang Village, Jiangwu Township, Yongnian County, Hebei Province, but were unsuccessful. On July 13, police arrested Ms. Hou Xiaoxia while she was working in the cotton fields and forcefully sent her to a detention center. Prior to this arrest, she had been detained in Shijiazhuang Labor Camp for two years.
On July 11, 2008, police ransacked the home of Mr. Kuide and his brother, practitioners from Xingye Village, Jiehedian Township, Yongnian County, Hebei Province. The police tried to force them to write "guarantee statements". Mr. Kuide and his brother refused to write the statements. The police then arrested them and sent them to the detention center.
On July 13, another practitioner, Ms. Lijuan from Jiehedian Village, was also arrested and sent to the detention center.
