(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities and counties in 8 provinces. In this report, 21 practitioners were subjected to brutal mistreatment during their detention and at least 37 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Chicheng County, Hebei Province] Several Practitioners Persecuted
In July, officials from the Chicheng County Party Committee and 610 Office persecuted practitioners using the excuse of "maintaining security for the Olympics." They confiscated practitioners' identification cards and put them in detention and put them under surveillance around the clock. Some were sent to brainwashing centers.
The director of the Chicheng County Forestry Bureau, Song Jianjun, ordered the detention of Mr. Yang Weiping and Mr. Huai Dianying at the Ciyingzi Forestry Station and the Heilongshan Forestry Farm, more than 60 miles away from the county town center. They were constantly under surveillance.
Mr. Zhao Jin was detained at his workplace, the Chicheng County Trade Bureau, put under surveillance. He started a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention.
Mr. Wang Haojun was detained at the Chicheng County Industry and Commerce Bureau and put under surveillance.
Ms. Liang Ying, an employee of the Chicheng County Tobacco Bureau; Mr. Li Xiaohui, an employee of the Chicheng County Tax Bureau; and Mr. Cheng Jianmin, an employee of the Chicheng County Telecommunication Bureau, were detained and put under surveillance in Dongguan Village for a brainwashing session.
Mr. Li Yuchuan was detained at his workplace, the Chicheng County Finance Bureau.
Mr. Dong Qi and Mr. Dong Wendong were taken to the Zhangshi Brainwashing Center by officials from their workplaces, the Chicheng County Land Bureau and the Chicheng County Telecommunication Bureau, respectively.
Ms. Wang Shuqin, Ms. Yang Fengying, and other five practitioners from Baicao Town were detained in the Erdaochuan School.
2. [Wuqiao County, Hebei Province] Mr. Wu Fu, His Wife and Mr. Shao Jinquan Arrested
On August 2, 2008, officials from the Wuqiao County State Security Division, Liangji Township Government, and police broke into Mr. Wu Fu's home. They confiscated a refrigerator, a washing machine, a television set, a computer, a printer, and other personal belongings with a total value of over 10,000 yuan. They arrested Mr. Wu and his wife. Afterwards, they went to Mr. Shao Jinquan's home, confiscated a motorcycle, a television set, and a satellite dish, and arrested Mr. Wu Jinquan.
3. [Lianjiang City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Cai Zhifen Arrested and Detained in a Brainwashing Center
At around 3 a.m. on July 25, 2008, police from the Zhanjiang City Police Department broke into Ms. Cai Zhifeng's home and arrested her. They confiscated a printer.
4. [Chongqing] On August 15, 2008, Ms. Wang Xiaohua Was Reported to Authorities While Distributing Falun Gong VCDs and Arrested
5. [Longchang County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lei Yanhua Arrested
Ms. Lei Yanhua, in her 50s, is a practitioner from Longchang County In mid-July 2008, police from the Longchang County State Security Division arrested her and took her to a brainwashing center in Nejiang City, Sichuan Province.
6. [Xi'an City, Shannxi Province] Ms. Zhao Jinlan Arrested
Ms. Zhao Jinlan, 62, is a resident of Xi'an City. On August 4, 2008, police from the Taoyuan Road Police Station and Lianhu Police Department and officials from the local residential committee arrested her at her home and ransacked it. Ms. Zhao is being detained in the Chang'an Brainwashing Center.
7. [Wuxue City, Hubei Province] Nineteen Practitioners Arrested
On August 1, 2008, police from the Longping Town Police Station and officials from the Wuxue City 610 Office arrested 19 practitioners who were studying the Falun Gong teachings together. They were: Mr. Wang Dihong, Mr. Guo Heqiao, Mr. Xiang Purong, Ms. Yu Gui'e, Ms. Wu Liuhua, Xiang Pugui, Yang Huiming, Ms. Zhang Shuixia, Huang Huohua, Wu Hongying, Ms. Hu Xingzhen, Mr. Zhou Tian, Mr. Chen Quan, Ms. Lan Juzhi, Ms. Yang Guomei, Mr. Tao Xinfa, Ms. Sun Aizhen, Mr. Li Qi, and Ms. Zhao Duhua. Several are over 70 years old. They were taken to the Wuxue City Detention Center that same evening.
8. [Lechang City, Guangdong Province] On the Afternoon of August 19, 2008, Local Police Arrested Mr. Gong Xuejun.
9. [Shenzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhao Xiaoqiao from Donganzhuang Township Arrested
At around 10 a.m. on July 31, 2008, over a dozen of police officers from the Donganzhuang Township Police Station went to Ms. Zhao Xiaoqiao's home. They ransacked it and confiscated Falun Gong VCDs, books, and materials. Ms. Zhao was arrested and taken to the Anping County Detention Center. The next day, her husband was arrested and taken to the Shenzhou City Detention Center. He was detained there for 10 days and had 500 yuan extorted from him before he was released.
10. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Ms. Zhou Weirong Arrested
At around 5 a.m. on August 18, 2008, police from the Xinglongan District State Security Section and the Xingong Police Station broke into Ms. Zhou Weirong's home. They ransacked the house and confiscated Falun Gong books, pictures of Falun Gong's founder, a computer, and a cell phone. She was arrested afterwards.

12. [Shandong Province] Mr. Chu Liwen's Release Was Delayed after His Term in Weibei Prison Was Served
13. [Shengchi County, Henan Province] Ms. Yang Qingyi and Brother Mr. Yang Yong Arrested
On July 24, 2008, the police from the Shengchi County State Security Division arrested Ms. Yang Qingyi and her brother, Mr. Yang Yong.
14. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Mr. Huang Youjun's Situation
Mr. Huang Youjun, born in 1972, is a resident of Junshan District, Yueyang City. In April 2004, Mr. Huang was arrested while distributing Falun Gong materials in Changshan City, Hunan Province, and severely beaten. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor and sent to the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changshan City. During his detention in the labor camp, he was tortured in different ways, including being forced to stand, squat, or sit on a small stool for a long time, sleep deprivation, and being forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong.
In mid-July 2005, Mr. Huang was reported to authorities while telling people the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. Since then, he has been forced to leave his home and is living with relatives. His wife, who suffers from a chronic illness, and his elementary-school-aged child must live by themselves without his support.
15. [Beijing] In August 2008, Officials from Beijing 610 Office Arrested Ms. Li Yan
16. [Sichuan Province] Police Detain Mr. Lin Xiaoquan after His Prison Term Expires
On August, 14 2008, Mr. Lin Xiaoquan, from Xinfan Town, Xindu District, Chengdu City, was taken from the Deyang Prison right after his three-year term expired. He is being detained in the Xinfan Town Police Station.
17. [Chongqing] Ms. Wu Huazhen's Home Ransacked
At around 9 p.m. on August 12, 2008, officers from the Jiangbei District Police Department ransacked Ms. Wu Huazhen's home in the Dashiba area, Jiangbei District, Chongqing.
18. [Wuhai City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhang Zhen Arrested
On August 2, 2008, Ms. Zhang Zhen from Wuhai City was arrested while clarifying the truth to people at the gate of Zhongshan Park in Wuhai City. She is being detained in the Erdaopeng Brainwashing Center in Jianghan District.

19. [Chongqing] Ms. Yu Furong from the Guojiatuo Area, Jiangbei District, Arrested on the Afternoon of August 20, 2008
20. [Beijing] Ms. Xia Jinyan Arrested
On June 22, 2008, Ms. Xia Jinyan, from the Maizidian area of the Chaoyang District was arrested and taken to the Chaoyang District Police Department.
21. [Honghu City, Hubei Province] Ms. Wu Qinyu and Ms. Yuan Pinglan Persecuted in Wuhai City Forced Labor Camp
On the night of May 14, 2008, police from the Honghu City State Security Division arrested Ms. Wu Qinyu and Ms. Yuan Pinglan while they were distributing truth-clarification materials in the countryside. In mid-June 2008, after they were held in the detention center for 45 days, they were sentenced to forced labor for one year and one and a half years. Both of them were sent to the Hubei Women's Forced Labor Camp in Wuchang City, Hubei Province.
