At the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Center, she was persecuted and abused so severely that one of her cervical vertebrae was dislocated. When her family demanded her release for medical treatment, the brainwashing center staff said that they would have to negotiate with the 610 Office. They are still waiting for a reply.
On the morning of April 9, 2009, a 610 Office agent knocked on the door at Ms. He Zhiwei's home, claiming he was there to perform an electrical inspection. After Ms. He opened the door, she was arrested and taken to the Sanshui Brainwashing Center.
On April 27, 2009, the 610 Office sent Ms. He to the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Center. It is reported that Yang Jinhua, secretary of the Zhuhai City Politics and Law Committee, personally said that if Ms. He did not "transform" at the Sanshui Brainwashing Center, she was to be taken to the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Center.
On June 4, 2009, Ms. He's family went to the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Center to visit her and found her in good health. While there, they confirmed that the phone call Ms. He's sister received after the arrest was not true. The police had told Ms. He's sister that Ms. He was arrested because she had distributed Falun Gong materials.
On June 15, 2009, Ms. He's relatives received a call from the Zhanjiang Brainwashing Center. The staff told them that Ms. He had experienced a bad headache since June 5, 2009. X-rays showed that one of her cervical vertebrae was dislocated. Afterward, when the family talked to Ms. He on the phone, this normally strong woman wept over the phone and said that her head hurt severely and that she was very dizzy. Ms. He Zhiwei's relatives demanded her release but still haven't received any word on the status of their demand.
