  • I Was Illegally Arrested and Taken to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp to Be Persecuted for My Spiritual Belief

I began to practice Falun Gong in 1995. Both my mind and body benefited, and all my diseases were cured. On the evening of November 7, 2000, when I went out, I was illegally arrested and taken to the county police station. The police locked me to a metal chair for the entire night. The chair was hard, cold and I couldn't move. The following day, Meng Xiangui interrogated me, "What did you do outside yesterday evening?" I said, "I appealed for Falun Gong." I clarified the truth to them and told them that by following Truth, Compassion and Tolerance one can be a good person. However, they did not listen to me and detained me in a cell. The weather was cold, and it was cold in the room where I spent the following two weeks. I wore a cotton-padded jacket and trousers. I wrapped my woolen sweater around my head, but I still awoke several times per night because of the freezing cold. They did not give me the insulated shoes my family members sent me. Before I started practicing Falun Gong I suffered from nephropathy. I suffered a relapse and was very weak. Plus I contracted diabetes because of the persecution.

After I was imprisoned for twenty days. Meng Xiangui from the Political Security Section in the county police station sent me to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province. When I arrived in the labor camp, the doctor inspected me and found I had diseases. Although the doctor did not say what diseases I had, they did not accept me. On the second day, Meng Xiangui took me for an inspection at a local hospital. They did not check whether my blood sugar was high or not, but my diabetes was very serious from the doctor's expression. Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp still did not accept me. But Meng Xiangui insisted, and by 5:30 p.m. the following day I was there.

After three days, the forced labor camp inspected me and other seriously ill people. They gave me some unidentified medicines. I took them twice. As a result, I had lumps, which itched and were very hard to endure. Later, I threw away the medicines.

Most of the people imprisoned in Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp were Falun Gong practitioners. There are also some non-practitioner detainees there, but not many. The atmosphere is especially intense. As soon as a person enters the camp, he/she feels it is ghastly and fearful, causing one to gasp for breath. I lived on the first floor. Five people live in each room. The window was nailed shut and the room was not ventilated. The smell was very strong from the restrooms. We often heard guards beating and abusing people on the second floor. There were also the pitiful cries as the practitioners were beaten.

I stayed in Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp for more than a month. I could walk at that time, but I could not wash my clothes. My body did not have the energy. The fellow practitioners helped me to wash my clothes. In the brainwashing class, they forced us to study materials slandering Falun Gong.

At around midnight one night, guards asked us to move bags of Chinese yams. I said I was very uncomfortable and couldn't lift them, but they forced me to go. After I lifted three to four bags, I gasped for breath. I almost fainted, so I was sent back to the room. Then I began to have convulsions and my whole body became stiff. I lost consciousness. I did not have any energy and I slept for about twenty four hours.

After another week, a Falun Gong practitioner who was tortured to neurosis arrived in the next cell. Her name was Wang Lei, around 40 years old and from Beijing. I heard that she was very rich before. She was illegally sentenced to be imprisoned in the forced labor camp for more than two years. Sometimes, when she slept, they still handcuffed her. One day, she shouted loudly and her voice was very miserable. I was frightened into convulsions, which was worse than the last time. I couldn't move and I felt faint.

At this time, they asked the team chief to pinch my philtrum [the vertical indentation in the upper lip]. Only then did I revive, but I did not have any energy. My lower limbs lost consciousness and I couldn't get up. I stayed in bed and others took care of me. On the second day, a guard in the forced labor camp saw it was not good, so he carried me on his back to a vehicle and took me to a hospital for inspection. I had serious heart disease and obvious signs of diabetes. My blood sugar was high. The forced labor camp feared being held responsibile for a death so they called the county police station and decided to release me, and asked my husband to take me home. My husband came to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp at 9:00 a.m. on March 22, 2005, but they did not release me and made him write this or that. Finally, my husband did not tell me what he wrote and I was released after 4:00 p.m.

Falun Gong Practitioners Tortured in Jilin Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

At the 4th Group of the Jilin Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, practitioners are subjected to various means of torture. The guards there all try to block any appeals in an effort to conceal their crimes.

Falun Gong practitioners recently sent there were forced to write "Five Statements" to renounce Falun Gong and promise never to practice it again.

The steadfast practitioners were put in solitary confinement, shocked with electric batons, beaten, slapped on the face, held down by guards, forced to stand, tied up on a death bed and forced to use the bed as a toilet. Practitioners who went on hunger strike were force-fed. Guards also forced them to take medicine.

Guard Zhang Guimei and Wang Zhufeng (warden) once tied practitioner Yuan Shufang (over fifty years old) to an execution bed for many days. They used the excuse of treating her illness to insert over ten electric needles into her face, head, hands and soles of her feet and then applied electricity, causing Yuan Shufang to foam from the mouth.

Wang Shufeng and Feng Xiaochun (warden) shocked practitioner Ma Guirong (over fifty years old) with electric batons, causing her to be unable to walk or take care of herself. She could only lay on the ground after the beating.

Liu Zhiwei (warden) and Wang Jing (warden) electric-shocked practitioner Zhao Shuqin, who had already become very weak due to the previous torture, making her even weaker. Liu Zhiwei once kicked Zhang Xiuling down the stairs, causing her feet to become swollen and making her unable to walk for a long time.

Li Xiaohua (leader of production group) and Guo Jianxin (officer) forcibly took away the appeal letter from Li Yongjun and prohibited any victims from reporting the persecution.

Wei Yun (prison doctor) used the excuse of high blood pressure and forced the practitioners to take pills to lower their blood pressure. He forced them to take eight or nine pills every time, causing Yang Hongmei and Chang Shuxia to have symptoms of poisoning. Wei Yun said, "Although I overdosed you this time, you will still have to take them next time."

Wang Zhufeng incited criminals to beat practitioners and told them that the government will reward them for assisting in torturing practitioners. Zhang Guimei ordered these criminals to kick practitioners and preventing them from reporting it. Wu Wei (instructor) incited the criminals to torture and beat practitioners and ordered them to strike at practitioners with scissors. Han Chunling told the criminals, "You take them to a small room and beat them. I will not interfere."

In addition, she shouted in the presence of everyone, "Hit harder! I will beat you dead if you continue to scream. You can report this to whoever you want." Xu Yan (warden) also said, "We have a death quota."

For determined practitioners, guards did not allow them to join the meals or order food. When practitioners' families brought them instant noodles, they would open every bag. The complaints box and inspection box in the labor camp are just for appearance. The appeal letters from Falun Gong practitioners are never forwarded.

Two Cases of Becoming Healthy after Practicing Falun Gong, Then Dying Due to Persecution

Below are cases of two people who were previously seriously sick, then became healthy after practicing Falun Gong, but died due to continued harassment and threats by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

    1. Ms. Zhao Fazhen, 52, lives in Dadianzi Village, Shiqiaozi, Zhucheng, Weifang. Before she practiced Falun Gong, she had hypertension, was paralyzed, and was not be able to speak. After therapy she got a little better but could not take care of herself and could not speak clearly. In Autumn of 1997, she learned Falun Gong and became healthy in a short period of time. She did not spend a penny taking medicines. Her husband also practiced Falun Gong and recovered from his stomach ulcer.

On July 20, 1999, the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong. Zhao Fazhen's family also suffered from the searches, monitoring, threats, and detention. Her husband was detained and fined 6000 yuan, since he did not give up his Falun Gong practice.

During the CCP's Two Conferences, before May 2006, the secretary of the Village, Li Jingting, led four policemen to search Zhao's home. They threatened her and confiscated Falun Gong books, videos, and recorders. Zhao had a stroke and passed away on August 25, 2006.

    2. Mr. Bai Ruyi, 70, lived at Changcheng, Zhucheng, Weifang. He had many diseases before he practiced Falun Gong. He had an operation for a gall stone, had hypertension, heart disease, liver dysfunction, and a myocardial infarction.

When he was desperate and pained, on February 15, 1998 in the afternoon, he continuously listened to six tapes of Master Li's lectures. He finished listening to the set of nine tapes the next day at noon and he felt very comfortable. On February 18, he started reading the book Zhuan Falun. He subsequently gained a new life. Since that day he could take care of himself. After ten days, Bai Ruyi walked out of the door and strolled down the street. After one month, he stopped taking all eight of his medications.

Bai Ruyi got better and better and he was able to work in the fields. His neighbors said that by practicing Falun Gong, Bai Ruyi not only recovered from his illnesses; he could also do more work than what he could do in his youth.

After July 20, 1999, when the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong, Bai Ruyi suffered from harassment, and police searches of his home. The police forced him to write a guarantee statement renouncing Falun Gong. The resulting guilt and intense pressure, along with the policemen's harassment and threats caused 72 year-old Bai Ruyi to lose his environment for studying Falun Gong and practicing the exercises, and thus he became weaker and weaker. His liver diseases recurred; he vomited blood, and passed away on September 2, 2004.
