  • My 80-year-old Mother Died of Grief after the Police Refused to Let Her See Me in Detention Three Times

I have a very weak physical constitution. For a long time I had to take many types of medication and injections and I even had to be hospitalized. In March 1997, I was most fortunate to be introduced to the practice of Falun Gong. My body was restored to good health through the practice. During the following two years, I didn't spend a single penny on medicine. I introduced the practice to my mother. Through practicing, her dependency on medicine was greatly reduced, and, in the end, her health was fully restored and she didn't need to be on any medication. Both my mother and I became healthy. We started to enjoy the experience and feeling of a true sense of lightness within a healthy body. After cultivating for some time, my mother saw some scenes in other dimensions as well as other things that ordinary people cannot see.

On July 20, 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong started. Many fellow practitioners went to Beijing to appeal. I was very worried. The three generations in our family ranged from my 80-year-old mother to my 10-year-old daughter. I thought that I couldn't travel as far away as Beijing, so I went to Gaoshi Police Station to clarify the truth. At the police station, Liu Renpin, the police officer on duty, asked me the purpose of my visit. I responded that I had come to clarify the truth about Falun Gong, to seek justice for Falun Gong, and to restore the good name of Master Li. I was illegally locked up for two days and a night before I was finally released. There were many other practitioners that were already locked up in the cells. From then on, whenever any "sensitive date" approached, the police came to my home to harass my family, confiscate my family's property, and intimidate, threaten, insult, and persecute us.

On February 4, 2003, policeman Liu Renpin organized a group of people to burst into my home and conduct a raid. They seized all of my Falun Gong books, all of our truth-clarification materials, the Falun Gong lecture tapes and exercise music. They also arrested me and took me to the police station. After three days they sent me to Weiyuan County Jail for five days. The police then transfered me and a few other fellow practitioners to Neijiang City Detention Center.

Neijiang Detention Center is a hell on earth. The police were notorious for their brutal tortures, beating, cursing, and extortion of money from the inmates. Their treatment of Falun Gong practitioners was the most brutal and cruel. I was imprisoned in Neijiang for about half a year.

During this period, my 80-year-old mother was left alone by herself without anyone to take care of her. My young daughter was compelled to leave home to find work. Out of concern for me, her daughter, my mother visited the Gaoshi Police Station to demand my release. Policemen Liu Renpin, Li Gang and others shouted insults at her. They also threatened and intimidated her, saying, "Your daughter is currently squatting in the water dungeon at Neijiang Detention Center. You have no hope of seeing her, so there is no need for you to come back."

My mother's health began to deteriorate due to the harassment and her worry about my situation.

On her second visit to the police station to request to see me, my mother was already seriously ill. The police continued to threaten, intimidate, and deceive her. They told her, "Since your daughter practices Falun Gong, she refuses to acknowledge her family. She does not want you as her mother nor does she want her daughter. Why not give up on her! This old widow is also incompetent, so incapable of even raising a granddaughter of only ten years old, that she had to sent her out to earn her own livelihood. It's better for her to die than to live. She should be shot by the firing squad." These were the lies and insults they used to deceive my mother. After my mother returned home, she was so upset that she cried every day. Her illness got worse and she was hospitalized several times.

On her third visit to the police station to demand my release, my mother told the police that she knew the daughter she had raised, and whatever they said, she would not believe it. Whether she was living or dead, she wanted to see her daughter. The policemen continued with their slander and lies, saying, "Your daughter will not return. She doesn't want you or her daughter. All she cares about now is herself." Unable to overcome the shock and grief of worry, once again my mother was hospitalized because of her critical illness.

When my mother was critically ill, my daughter rushed back from out of town to visit her. When she found out that her grandmother was in such a bad shape, she went to the police station to request my release from detention to visit my dying mother. At first the policemen wouldn't allow it, but through repeated begging and her final personal assurances, they agreed that I could go. On the afternoon of July 24, the police allowed me to go home. The next morning my mother died. Her death was an unnecessary tragedy, a result of the relentless persecution. In essence, my mother was murdered.

After my mother passed away, the authorities wouldn't allow me to go free. Using personal guarantees, they deceived me into going to the police station. I was illegally arrested and sent to Neijiang Brainwashing Center to undergo further persecution.

Mr. Zhao Jucai, Disabled from Persecution, Sentenced to Seven Years of Imprisonment

Zhao Jucai, a Falun Gong practitioner in Yidu City, Hubei Province, was arrested in March 2006 at his home and was detained in Yidu City's No. 1 Detention Center. In the beginning of July 2006, Zhao Jucai was sentenced to a five years of imprisonment. However, another court trial was held on August 31, 2006, in which his term was extended for another two years.

Before the second trial, Zhao Jucai was almost disabled. He had trouble walking because he was so weak as a result of severe persecution. During the trial, he was accused of the crime of "Destroying Law Implements" by the Yichang City Intermediate Court, Yidu City Court and Yidu City's prosecutor. Zhao Jucai denied all accusations. However, he was told that his "crime" was underestimated in the first trial, and the total term would be extended to seven years. Nearly ten judges and court staff members were involved in the sentencing, most of whom came from Yidu City's National Security Group and the local 610 Office, while only Zhao Jucai's wife and his five-year-old son were allowed to sit in the public gallery.

According to inside information, the Yichang City Intermediate Court once complained that the Yidu City Court did not send them the corresponding materials in advance for review. This indicates that the Yichang City Intermediate Court hastily sentenced Mr. Zhao Jucai.

As a result of persecution, Mr. Zhao Jucai suffers from edema all over his body and is partially disabled. He vomited all of the food he tried to eat, so he now lives on intravenous injections and is on the verge of death. He looks like he's in his sixties, although he's only in his forties. Mr. Zhao Jucai applied for release on medical parole, but was rejected by Yidu City's 610 Office, the National Security Group, and the jail authorities.

Zhao Jucai is from Zhoujiahe Village, Honghuatao Town, in Yidu City. Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, he has been arrested five times. He was taken into custody three times and sent to forced labor camps twice for three years in total. In April 2001, when he was in the notorious Shayang Forced Labor Camp of Hubei Province, Mr. Zhao was tortured by the guards in Team 5 with the "Carrying a Sword" torture method and was then forced to kneel down and was beaten. Later, he was taken to the cell and was tortured with electric batons, and the guards banged his head against the wall. Yang, the section head of the 610 Office, who was present, said, "We are taking advantage of loopholes in the law system to beat you. What can you do to me?"

Owing to the torture in Shayang Forced Labor Camp, Mr. Zhao's legs were disabled. He frequently fell to the ground, but he was still forced to run by the guards. Therefore, his legs were seriously injured, and did not fully recover after he was released.

Late at night on September 23, 2005, Zhao Jucai's home was once again searched by the police from Honghuatao Town Police Station. He was wanted by the police, so he had to become homeless to avoid arrest and further persecution. In February 2006, when Mr. Zhao came back to see his family, the police broke into his home and took him away. He was detained in Yidu City's No. 1 Detention Center, where the police tortured him to force him to make a confession.

Mr. Zhao Jucai's wife went to Yidu City's National Security Group several times to apply for family visits, but every time she was rejected by police officers Liu Yunsheng and Liu Dinghua.

Currently, Mr. Zhao's family is having financial difficulties. His oldest daughter, who graduated from high school, went away to work since they cannot afford to send her to college. His wife, a peasant, works at home, while his son just began elementary school.

Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labor Camp Refuses to Let Guards Go Home in Order to Cover Up News of Atrocities

To block the news of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labor Camp refused to let the guards go home for a week recently. It is said that several practitioners were tortured to death in the labor camp, and among them was one woman from Chishui City or Xishui County.

The practitioners were frequently taken to isolated places, where selected individuals took turns driving them into the wall or iron beds by pulling their hands and deliberately tripping them. The perpetrators repeated this again and again for pleasure, while saying that they were 'giving lectures.' The practitioners were forced to stay longer if they did not cooperate. The brutal persecution of these female practitioners is constantly changing and it seems there is no end to the cruelty. Even a glance between practitioners incurs a beating. They also commonly rub an unknown drug on the practitioners at random.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Yan, who used to work in the Zunyi City Medical College, was persecuted by the guards headed by GU Xingying until she was emaciated and could not even walk by herself. She was carried to the clinic for force-feeding many times. At the end of August 2003, she was carried to the clinic and bound to a bed, where she died while being force-fed. Nobody dares to disclose any further information.

Ms. Zou Qianzhu, a practitioner from Tongren City, was 44 years old. She was persecuted to death in October 2004 in the Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Zhan Yean from the Guiyang City Medical College was subjected to long-term persecution in the camp. As a result, she became completely paralyzed and was emaciated. At the end of May 2005, they thought she would soon die, so she was sent home. She passed away on June 16, 2005.

The overwhelming majority of the practitioners detained at the Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labor Camp have experienced the so-called "storm fortifications" persecution twice or more, not to mention the abuse and beatings at the hands of those egged on by the guards. A female practitioner was hung up and tormented for three days and nights. The guard said, "You still will not compromise?" Then he puffed on his cigarette until the end turned red and burned her breast. Between August and December 2002, they detained another female practitioner in the confinement cell in the garrison team in the Male Forced Labor Camp. There she was insulted and raped by the drug users. One suspect is Wang Jianqiang from Guiyang City.

The Guizhou Province Women's Forced Labor Camp forces practitioners to perform slave labor from 15 hours to sometimes more than 20 hours a day. If they do not finish the assigned task, they are verbally abused by the controlling inmates, who are usually drug users.

The Persecution Evidence from Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

    1. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gao Li is 30 years old. She was tortured when she was being forced to give up Falun Gong. Liu Hong, the  police head of the 2nd Group incited five criminals to torture Gao Li. They gagged her with cotton and beat her back with their elbows. After this incident, Gao Li suffered from a chronic backache and involuntary shaking of the neck. These symptoms remained even after she was released from the camp.

    2. Falun Gong practitioner Yan Huiqin from Hu County in Shaanxi Province was detained at the camp in the year 2000. Refusing to give up Falun Gong, she went on a hunger strike and eventually died as a result of the persecution. Evildoing guards and others tortured her physically and mentally. Guards Tan Zhenglin, Zhao Xiaoyang and others did not investigate the murderers, but instead tried to cover up the incident. They had people write fake testimony, blocked the information and deceived her family. Justice has not yet been served, since the murderers are still at large.

    3. On June 21, 2001, guards duped 28 Falun Gong practitioners and ordered them to run in the courtyard while the guards searched all their belongings. Several criminals illegally searched practitioners pillowcases, clothing and other personal belongings. They found and confiscated Teacher's books and new articles. When practitioners returned and asked to have Teacher's new articles returned to them, something unexpectedly violent took place. The camp Party secretary, surnamed Yang, female assistant camp head Zhang Zuoqing, and a section head surnamed Wan, urged on seven fully prepared male guards holding clubs. They hit the crowd at random. Practitioner Wu Daqiong was hit and fainted at the scene. Guard Wan beat practitioner Mei Hongyin on the face and ear multiple times so that the 61 year-old woman lost her memory instantly. Luo Changyun, a 46 year-old practitioner was severely beaten and had bruises on the front of the head and around the eyes. Kan Guangying was beaten cruelly, becoming deaf in one ear. Luo Changyun, 54 years-old, had bruises on her head and right arm. Guards also handcuffed twelve practitioners and ordered six criminals to beat and kick them. The kicks were so severe that leather-shoe sole imprints were visible on their bodies. As practitioner Zhang Jinlan shouted, "Stop beating!" one person pushed her down and covered her mouth so that she could not make a sound. Another grabbed the handcuffed Liu Lihua's hair, and franticly hit her.

    4. In August 2001, guard Liu Hong from the 2nd Group, along with others, brutally tortured practitioners Wang Jie and Li Cuifang. They were compelled to submit to the "forced backbend" position (Note: This is a very painful form of torture in which one arm is reaching down the back behind the head and the other hand meets it from the lower back. The hands are handcuffed together to cause unbearable pain). They were handcuffed with their hands up, in front of their chests, for a month. Sleep was forbidden. The handcuffs remained, even when they were eating or using the restroom.

    5. On September 18, 2001, the camp and "collaborator" Chen Bin attempted to force the practitioners to give up Falun Gong. About one-hundred detained practitioners were forced to participate in a so-called "course." Practitioner Li Shulian refused to take the class. This led to her being handcuffed and kicked. Several other Falun Gong practitioners went there to support Li Shulian and to stop the evildoers. On September 19, 2001, the labor camp officials made a second attempt, however a dozen practitioners persisted in withdrawing from the course and left, so the plan did not succeed.

After that incident, guards escalated the torture. Ma Yunjing was coerced into the "forced backbend" position for seven days, Zhao Jiabi for ten days, Liu Aiying for two days, Zhang Danxia for ten days and Liang Danxia was in the "forced backbend" position for 34 days. They were handcuffed either onto a metal gate or on the steel bar of a window. They were isolated and monitored for a long time. All the other Falun Gong practitioners detained in the 2nd Group signed a joint protest letter, and the three went on hunger strike to protest the torture. The guards were compelled to unlock Liang Lingyun's handcuffs on the 34th day.

    6. On December 3, 2001, the camp called a meeting in the second floor auditorium for all the detained Falun Gong practitioners and criminals. Guards were armed with sticks and handcuffs. Each practitioner was flanked by two camp guards and closely monitored. When the authorities started slandering Falun Gong, practitioner Zhao Jiabi stood up to protest. The guards became panicked and yelled randomly. Several criminals arrived and handcuffed Zhao Jiabi, an older lady, to a metal gate in the hallway. The guards instigated the criminals to beat and kick her. At the same time, practitioner Kan Guangying, who sat not far from Zhao Jiabi stood up and shouted loudly, "Don't touch her! Stop beating!" She was dragged out of the meeting and locked up in the 2nd Group's guard office on the second floor. The ten or more guards in the room savagely beat Kan Guangying.

    7. One day in the fall of 2001, 59 year-old Falun Gong practitioner Zhai Xianru was working in the second floor engine room when the 2nd Group Division chief Yu Yan came and asked Zhai, "Who do you work for?" Zhai Xianru did not respond. Guard Yu Yan picked up the cardboard box on the ground to hit Zhai on the front of the head. Zhai Xianru shouted, "The Fa rectifies the Cosmos!" The police then twisted her arms and her head, and hauled her to the second floor. Zhai was tortured at the "medical office" for more than a month. She was later sent to a mental hospital for future persecution.
