  • The Life of Zhao Yougang from Shandong Province in His 30s Is in Danger Due to Severe Persecution

Zhao Yougang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Weifang City, has been tortured in a prison in Wuxi City for several years, and his life is now in great danger.

Zhao Yougang is from Weifang City, Shandong Province. His original name on his identity card was Zhao Jianshe. He is over thirty years old. On the day he was arrested and put into the custodial station in May 2003, he went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. Several days later he was sent to the custodial station in Nanjing City. From the beginning, guards at the custodial station tortured him physically. They cuffed him using foot shackles and waist shackles so that he couldn't move for over twenty days. They put him into different cells and instigated different inmates to beat him. They force fed him, and on a few occasions they purposefully inserted the tube through his nose several times. They force fed salt into his mouth and tightened his mouth with a respirator. Though all of this was extremely painful, Zhao never wavered in his belief. Eventually his determination subdued many of the vicious people's tortures. Even the prison doctor, who tortured him most, eventually came to admire him and said that he would no longer torture him.

Seeing that the torture didn't work, the prison doctor adopted a hypocritical approach in addition to the physical tortures. But usually Zhao saw through these tricks and pointed them out squarely and reprimanded them for their hypocrisy. Whenever someone was reprimanded by him, the news would spread quickly and many people would know about it the next day. The wardens were all very afraid of him. There were several groups of wardens. Some of them were familiar with him and said to him: please don't reprimand me in front of others so that I lose face. Or they said such and such people were very good, so please don't scold them. Or such and such were very bad, so yes, you should scold them.

When he was force fed, Zhou Yougang would fight back with all his strength. He believed that if he cooperated with the force feeding, how could it count as a hunger strike? He was extremely weak and couldn't even walk two steps. But every time he still fought back when he was force fed. He exhibited so much strength that seven or eight people were needed to contain him. Once, he grabbed the tube from the prison doctor and broke it into two pieces. In order to prevent the tube from being broken, they changed the tube for a plastic one. When he was force fed, he often shouted "Falun Dafa is good." His voice pierced through the prison and most of the inmates knew of him. They learned and passed on his stories. Many of them admired him with a thumbs up. The evil was terrified, so they changed methods. When they force fed him, the prison doctor would tie him to an iron chair and tighten his mouth so that he couldn't say anything.

Half a year later, Zhao was sent to a prison in Wuxi City. On the first day there, he was tied to an iron chair. The long-time hunger strike had made him very weak. Half an hour later he fainted. He was then sent to the hospital in Zuze Prison, Liyang City. This hospital was notorious for its violence and mistreatment of prisoners. Many people sent there would be tied to the beds and couldn't move for the first three days. Those that didn't cooperate with them would be tied till they were subdued. If a person was tied for too long, this person would become numb and that wouldn't help with their work of "transforming" the person. So they would loosen the restraints on him after one month, tying to provoke him, and then they would continue tying the person for a long time. Lots of people were not able to move even several months after they were untied.

Zhao Yougang weighed very little, but because of the torture, his body was swollen like a balloon. He was sent back to the prison in Wuxi City. He was put into a solitary confinement cell on the top level of the building. The perpetrators had two possible strategies to reform him. One was that they would transform him at any cost. The other was that they would transform him, but still had to consider the safety of his life. However, the second strategy was not adopted. So under the strategy of "if he isn't transformed, let him die," the evil launched one campaign after another to torture him. The prison wardens instigated the inmates to torture him. Six prisoners held one of his legs and tied his other leg to the edge of the bed. They used every means to torture him. They reduced his sleeping time. They swore at him and beat him savagely. In the Wuxi Prison, there was a secret torture method called "Putting onto the Plank" which was previously unknown to the outside world. They used this torture method as an ultimate weapon to subdue an inmate. They stripped the inmate and tied him tightly to the plank (there was a hole in the middle of the plank and the urine and stool went from the body and dropped through this hole). They put bricks under the feet so that the feet were higher than the head. In the summer, mosquitos bit, and in the winter, only one thin layer of quilt was given to the inmate, and the inmate would lose consciousness because of the cold. Within two or three days, the inmate would became disabled.

There were guards on duty on the top level of the building. No unauthorized personnel could come near so that the outside world wouldn't know what happened there. But the stone wall couldn't prevent the news about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners from coming out. Their atrocities were revealed bit by bit to the outside world. Zhao Yougang continually fought hard to protest the force feeding.

Urgent Rescue Needed for Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Yu Ziming from Sichuan Province

Mr. Yu Ziming is a practitioner from Neijiang City in Longchang County, Sichuan Province. On June 29, 2006, the police illegally arrested him and another practitioner, Ms. Gao Huifang, for distributing truth clarifying materials, and detained them at the Longchang County Police Station. At 1:00 p.m. that same day, the police tortured and killed Ms. Gao. Mr. Yu is being held at the Longchang Detention Center, where he has developed scabies due to the poor conditions. Because Mr. Yu was a witness to the murder of Ms. Gao, the Longchang Police said, "He won't leave this place alive." They are currently trying to sentence Mr. Yu. Please help to stop this evil plan.

Ms. Gao was a 48-year-old worker from Oil Transportation Group One in Neijiang City, Longchang County, Sichuan Province. The Longchang County Police and national security forces had sent her to detention facilities on three occasions in the past. Twice they sent her to the notorious Nanmu Temple Labor Camp in Zizhong, Sichuan Province, for a total of six years. During her detention, they sent her to a mental institution and tortured her with inhuman methods for over ten months. In February 2006, Ms. Gao had been taking care of Ms. Liu Ying, who had become mentally unstable after undergoing torture at the Chenghua District Brainwashing Center in Chengdu City. While Ms. Gao was staying at Ms. Liu's house, Zhang Fuming of the Qinlong Chang Village Government in Chenghua District and a dozen officers from the Qinlong Chang Police Station arrested her. There was a great deal of indignation among the villagers because of this. Ms. Gao was detained at the Chenghua District Brainwashing Center on Xiongmao Road in Chengdu City. Authorities later sent her to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center, where she suffered additional persecution. She went on a 29-day hunger strike and was later released.

Mr. Sun Changping Tortured For 30 Days at Fusong County Detention Center in Jilin Province

On September 19, 2006, Sun Changping, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin Province, Fusong County, Lushuihe Township was taken by Tang Longping, head of the Lushuihe Police Department, from his workplace. Mr. Sun was viciously beaten and then illegally detained and tortured in the Fusong County Detention Center for thirty days. He was tied to a death bed. Two bones in his back wer broken and protruding. After such vicious torture, Mr. Sun had great difficulty walking. He was recently released from the detention center. The following is Mr. Sun's account of his experience.

After the vicious torture, Mr. Sun Changping had difficulty walking

Two bones in Mr. Sun's back were broken and protruded outwards

On September 19, 2006, at around 1:00 p.m., I was sleeping on the kang (a heated brick bed) in the night-watchman's residence of the Carpentry Factory. Suddenly, a gang of policemen from the Lushuihe Police Department barged in. One of them was Tang Longping, head of the Lushuihe Police Department. With him were several policemen, including Jia Haifeng, Zhao Wenjie, Xu Jinghu and others. Policeman Xu Jinghu came into the room first. He did not display any identification. He started to plow through my belongings in the cabinet on the kang. Several other policemen followed and started to ransack the room. When they found Master Li's picture, I fought to take the picture back. Six or seven policemen held me to the kang and hand-cuffed my hands behind my back. The policemen pushed my head downwards and held me down by pressing their knees into my back. I could hardly breathe, and my legs could not move. After the ransacking, I was thrust into a police car and taken to the Lushuihe Police Department.

Mr. Sun Changping was tied to the death bed in the detention center

The policemen pushed me into an iron chair and tied me with belts. Xiong Chuanwen, captain of Squad 110, and members Yue Jinqing, Liu Jia and Fu Rong interrogated me. I refused to respond to their questions and demanded that they immediately release all Falun Gong practitioners under their false detainment, and told them the truth about Falun Gong. They did not listen to me and started to beat me. Then I shouted "Falun Dafa is good." They bound my mouth with cloth, thrust stinky socks into my mouth, forced me to smell stinky shoes, slapped my face with the sole of their shoes, kicked me in the face, and hit my head using the military pillow made from a tarp. My face and mouth were swollen from the beating, the tissue in my mouth was torn and my gums were bleeding. Policemen Yue Jingqing and Liu Jia struck my chest and back causing injury to my ribs. Breathing became difficult and painful.

The officers even put Master Li's picture under my feet and ordered me to step on it. They stomped on my foot when I refused. They then put Master Li's picture under an iron chair and held me down to keep me from moving. When they did this, I shouted "Falun Dafa is good" and tried to tell them not to do evil deeds, lest they face retribution. They didn't listen to me and drew a beard and glasses on the picture. Liu Peng tore the picture.

On the morning of September 20, Policeman Zhao Wenjie and two other policemen handcuffed my hands behind my back and forced me into a police car. Policemen Zhang Aiming and Wang Dianjun of the Fusong County State Security Squad took me to Fusong Detention Center. In the detention center, counselor Ma Yi demanded that I not talk because an inspection group was visiting. When I asked him why, he slapped me across the face multiple times so I shouted "Falun Dafa is good." Ma Yi and several other policemen immediately asked some criminals to bring shackles and chain me to the death bed. My hands and feet were unable to move but I kept on shouting "Falun Dafa is good," "Heaven will destroy the CCP," and "Quitting the CCP will bring security and peace." Ma Yin slapped me again, kicked me down onto the death bed and stepped on my mouth with his leather shoe. He then ordered some criminals to bind my mouth using feet-drying towels and tape it with several layers of duct tape.

The following day Policeman Liu Qinglin came on duty. He forbade me from singing Falun Gong songs or shouting "Falun Dafa is good," and ordered me to abide by detention center rules. I said that I follow "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance," to be a good person, that I was no criminal and did not need to abide by the rules of the detention center. Then I continued to shout "Falun Dafa is good." He then started beating me. After he became tired from the beating, he ordered the criminals to take turns beating me. My whole face, mouth and right eye became swollen after they beat me. My nose and mouth bled, and blood filled my mouth. After being beaten for a long while, my whole face was swollen, my mouth was still full of blood. To protest the persecution I faced, I started a hunger strike and continuously shouted "Falun Dafa is good."

Three days later I was released from the death bed. My legs felt heavier after the torture, and I could not straighten my back. I went to the head of the detention center and demanded that he release all Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally detained at the center. After being refused I started to practice the exercises. Policemen Ma Yi and Geng Cheng saw me practicing and ordered criminals to beat me. They carried me to the death bed and held my arms and legs down to stop me from practicing. I shouted "Falun Dafa is good," and Ma Ying came in to the cell and punched my mouth, breaking my lips and causing bleeding. They then slapped my face for quite a while. Ma Yi also slashed my feet and toes using his key chain.

On October 8, they transferred me from the "transition cell" to the "old and disabled cell." I continued to practice the exercises. Policeman Liu Qinglin again ordered the criminals to tie me on the death bed. He ordered the criminals to pour salt into my mouth, pour water into my nose, duct tape my mouth, and thrust tissue and corn bread into my nose to prevent me from breathing. Policemen Liu et al watched from the side. When they felt that the criminals were not cruel enough they threatened the criminals saying "If you cannot tame him, I will stop your meals and forbid you from buying things." The policemen were afraid of information about their behavior being leaked to the public. The police instigate hate among the criminals telling them, "You have beaten Falun Gong practitioners in here, and these Falun Gong will publicize you." Therefore, the criminals covered up my eyes and slapped me with their shoe soles, punched my face and back, put a plastic bucket on my head and beat it heavily, scratched the soles of my feet, and poured cold water on my body while fanning me with cold wind.

Policeman Ma Yi watched from the window while the criminals beat me. I was so badly beaten that my mouth was full of blood and my face was deformed. I was not able to move at all. Thanks to the rescue effort of my fellow practitioners and relatives, I was released without condition after thirty days.

Ms. Zhu Xiyu Suffers Mental Breakdown from Torture at the Heizuizi Women's Labor Camp in Changchun, Jilin Province

When I was detained at the Heizuizi Women's Labor Camp, I watched with my own eyes the completely inhumane, brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Xiyu.

Zhu Xiyu is from Yanji. She was illegally detained in the Fourth Team of the labor camp. Because she refused to comply with the guards' orders, she was often beaten and yelled at. Some of the other detainees also beat her at the command of the guards. She went on a hunger strike to protest the evil persecution and her illegal detention, and was force-fed by camp doctors. Often she ended up with dark bruises on her face. Sometimes when she returned from the labor camp clinic, her face was covered in blood, and she had a tube inserted into her nose. When other practitioners went to the guards to stop their violence, the head guard was afraid that things would get out of control, and ordered that Zhu be taken back to his office. But of course what awaited her was more beating and electric shocks.

After several months, although the guards used whatever methods they had, they could not "transform" Zhu Xiyu. The guards then collaborated with the labor camp doctors and sent Zhu to the police hospital for further "treatment," or in other words, to implement further persecution.

I found that Zhu had disappeared, so I asked around, but nobody knew where she went. After a while, I saw an official of the Fourth Team (actually an accomplice of the guards). She said, "I don't know where Zhu Xiyu went. It's hard to say if she is still alive. Perhaps she went home."

Three months later, when I was waiting in line to get a meal, I saw an elderly woman whose arms were crossed and who had a hunched back. The guards from the Fourth Team and two other people in red clothes were yelling, "Go forward, go back," continuously torturing her. A person in red was pushing and shoving her while the head guard was yelling. Who was she? I was wondering when a guard said loudly, "Zhu Xiyu!" She was Zhu Xiyu! I was both shocked and very angry. When Zhu first came to this place, she looked only to be around 30. Now the evil guards had tortured her into this state. Later I heard that Zhu had already suffered a mental breakdown. The things she said no longer made sense, yet she still said to us every day, "Falun Dafa is great!" After she said that, she was usually beaten or shocked with an electric baton.

One day in January 2003, we were walking back in line after eating a meal. When we got back to the workshop, I looked outside the window and was astounded. It took me a while to put into words, "Come, come and look." Everyone came over. We saw that the guard from the Fourth Team led two thugs, dragging Zhu on the ground with a rope tied to each of her ankles. Her back and head were on the ground. Her clothes were tattered and open. They dragged her down the stairs, leaving a long trail of blood on the snow-covered path. We were outraged and knocked on the window. We shouted, "Stop! You are no different than the Nazis. You are more brutal than the Nazis!" The guard and the thugs stopped and stood there for a while and didn't say anything. Then they pulled her up, held her by the arms, and took her to the labor camp office. The other guards yelled at us, and said, "Who are you?"

When we finished work that day, it was past 9 p.m. We saw blood on the stairs from the first to the fourth floor, where the Fourth Team was located. Because it was dark outside, we could not see whether there was blood outside.

It has been more than three years, and I have not heard anything from Zhu Xiyu since then. I don't know where she is, or whether she has been freed from the labor camps.
