  • Ms. Niu Yuhuan from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province Persecuted Repeatedly for Her Belief; Her Father-in-Law Passed Away in Grief

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Niu Yuhuan from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province has suffered continual persecution over the past seven years. She was tortured severely in a labor camp, where she became emaciated and could not even tend to her daily needs. After Ms. Niu was repeatedly arrested, her father-in-law passed away in October 2006, grieving at the injustice.

Ms. Niu Yuhuan, 51 years old, is a retired employee of Jiamusi Railway, Heilongjiang Province. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from numerous diseases and had to take many medications every day. Nevertheless, her health did not improve. In 1996, not long after she started to practice Falun Gong, all her diseases were healed. After the persecution of Falun Gong by the Jiang regime began on July 20, 1999, Niu Yuhuan traveled to Beijing in 2000 to appeal to the government. However, she was illegally arrested and held at a detention center for two and a half months. When she returned home Ms. Niu suffered constant harassment, especially during the holidays, from supervisors at her workplace and officials from the local police stations.

In April 2002, members of the Chinese Communist Party in Jiamusi launched a large-scale round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. Policemen from the Zhongshan and Qianjin police stations as well as agents from the Third Section of the Railroad Bureau broke into Niu Yuhuan's home on several occasions to arrest her. Ms. Niu was forced to leave home and live in exile. Even then, the police continued to threaten her family, saying that Ms. Niu had become a wanted criminal and those who refused to divulge her whereabouts would be guilty of covering up for her. The police also spied on her husband constantly. On May 1, 2002, when Niu Yuhuan returned home to visit her father-in-law, in his eighties, police cars arrived less than ten minutes after she left. On October 1, Ms. Niu returned home again and the police also rushed there, but she was once again able to escape.

On October 15, 2003, six or seven police officers from the Zhongshan Police Station broke into Niu Yuhuan's home and began ransacking her belongings. After that, Ms. Niu was illegally taken to the police station. She began to develop symptoms of a heart attack and was sent to a hospital. The doctor said that Ms. Niu's life was in danger and the police had to notify her husband to come and get her. On October 7, 2004, the Zhongshan police broke into Ms. Niu's house and took her away again. She was brought to the police station where she was severely interrogated and brutally beaten. Her heart disease suddenly worsened and she passed out. Even then, Ms. Niu was imprisoned in a detention center for one month. With heart disease and anemia, she was unable to move and yet she was forcibly and illegally sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a labor camp.

At the labor camp, Niu Yuhuan suffered constant beatings and very abuse from the police. On March 2, 2005, police officer Li Xiujin lied to practitioners in order to obtain their fingerprints, saying that it was required for their release. However, after learning that it was a plan to deceive them, Ms. Niu wrote a solemn declaration. Li Xiujin beat her heavily on her chest where she has skin problems, and Ms. Niu had to suffer one whole night of pain. Her heart problems also recurred. She constantly suffered from health problems and passed out. Even when Ms. Niu was on the brink of death and was sent to a hospital, the police would go against the doctors' recommendations to hospitalize her for longer. As Niu Yuhuan was unable to move or perform labor, Liu Xiujin dragged her to a garage, where she had to lie on the cement floor for two months without any carpets or mats. Finally, seeing that she could not sit up, they decided not to allow her to lie down any more. Ms. Niu was carried onto the Tiger Bench, which the police jokingly called the "Comfy Chair." She was subjected to this torture every day until her entire body was racked with immense pain. Yet, the police still continued beating and verbally abusing her.

In a few months' time, Niu Yuhuan's spiritual and physical health were severely depleted from the torture. She had became emaciated and could not even walk. After hearing of her situation, Ms. Niu's family requested to see her, but were rejected by the police. In the end, seeing that her situation was indeed very bad, the authorities sent Ms. Niu to the hospital where she was diagnosed with kidney failure. Even then, she was only released home after the police extorted 5,000 yuan from her family.

After returning home, Ms. Niu could not tend to her daily activities and had to rely on her husband to take care of her. Even now, she is still incapacitated. Moreover, Ms. Niu's disabled elderly father-in-law used to have Niu Yuhuan's help to carry out his daily needs. After she was arrested several times, he was severely frightened. He became very upset when Ms. Niu was illegally sentenced to imprisonment in the labor camp. In October 2006, he passed away, grieving at the injustice.

Mr. Bai Tianshi, 63, Seriously Tortured at Xishanping Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing City

Mr. Bai Tianshi from the Guojiatuo area of Jiangbei District in Chongqing City was seriously tortured by the 2nd Squadron of the 7th Group of Xishanping Forced Labor Camp. He had been crippled and lying in bed for over twenty days due to the torture. He was unable to move freely for the two to three months, and is missing most of his teeth due to torture.

Mr. Bai Tianshi, 63 years old, had been working in the Wangjiang Factory in the Chongqing City. Because he practiced Falun Gong for about one year, the factory authorities discharged him. He was once sent to Xishanping Forced Labor Camp by the Jiangbei Branch of the Chongqing Police Department. In August 2005, because he passed out truth clarification materials, he was again detained in the Xishanping Labor Camp for 21 months.

In November 2005, after the "group training" in the First Squadron of the 7th Group of the camp, Mr. Bai was transferred to the third strictly controlled team of the 2nd Squadron of the 7th Group to be further persecuted. When the criminal "assistants" asked him to agree to a compromise, Bai Tianshi always answered, "No way." On February 15, 2006, Fu Yaqiang, who is the head of the criminal inmates, closed the cell door and required Mr. Bai to answer his question: "Will you write a guarantee paper or not?" When Bai replied "No," several criminal inmates immediately circled around him and two of them lifted his legs and two others lifted his arms and carried him onto a bed. They separated his feet and tied them to the headboard at the end of the bed. They also inserted a short stool below his hips, causing his legs to rise up. Then Fu shouted, "If you do not write the guarantee statement, I will let you have a taste of this treatment." Then he and Gou Changhua together pressed down hard on Mr. Bai's leg joints. One can not imagine how painful this must have been! Later in the afternoon, criminal inmate Huang Xiaodong brought in steel needles to prick into Mr. Bai's feet and hands. They tortured him until six o'clock that afternoon.

In March 2006, Lei Kejin, head of the 2nd Squadron of the 7th Group instructed "assistants" to forcibly transform Bai Tianshi. For the next twenty some odd days, the evil Fan Shuanshuan, who is in charge of the assistants, utilized many dirty tricks to torture Mr. Bai. One torture method used was "sitting upright." The waist is straight with both hands on both the knees. Between the knees is a piece of paper which needs to be held tightly. If the paper is dropped, the person is then be punched and kicked violently. This torture method is usually done for a good half a day.

One day during the two-hour break time at noon, a so-called assistant forced Bai Tianshi to hold his head with both hands and then perform a 90-degree bend. Mr. Bai passed out twice but was not allowed to stop. Inmates forced him to sit on a tiger bench and an assistant lifted his legs violently causing such a tremendous pain that Bai Tianshi started to sweat all over his body.

During another day, "assistants" knocked Bai Tianshi down to the floor. They held down his head and pushed him underneath the lower layer of a two layer bed. Mr. Bai is almost six feet tall and his body looked totally deformed under the bunk. "Assistant" Fan sat in the bed sneering, right above Bai Tianshi's head, to hold it down.

After suffering twenty days from torture, Mr. Bai looked very exhausted and his eyes had a stiff expression. He was unable to stand up, and had to spend his time in bed like a paralyzed person.

As soon as Mr. Bai was able to get out of bed, he was transferred to the so-called "general control" group for further tortures. Because he suffered from continuous tortures, Mr. Bai was not able to move around easily, and when he walked, he had to hold on to the wall. One time the evil Jiang Zeng, who was an "assistant," told him to report about what he was thinking, and then he forcibly slapped him five times.

Tian Xin, the head of the 7th Group, along with Lei Kejin, head of the 2nd Squadron in the Chongqing Xishanping Forced Labor Camp, were in charge of torturing Falun Gong practitioners like Wu Qun, Chen Changjun, Kang Hong and others who were still not "transformed." These evil guards tortured practitioners both physically and mentally. The practitioners were locked in small cells for a long time and were also monitored by inmates around the clock. Practitioners were asked to write "improvement reports" every day. If they did not comply, inmates would torture them. Their families would be denied visitation and money from their families would be given to others. These practitioners became very weak due to insufficient food, which only kept them from dying, and continuous tortures.

The Brief Descriptions about the Persecution of Falun Gong at Xiangtan University in Hunan Province

Mr. Hu Yongfeng, 69 years old, was a retired Xiangtan University employee. In 1996 he started to practice Falun Gong. In June 2000, he went to Beijing to legally appeal. He was charged with "disturbing the social order" and was illegally detained in Jintangwan Detention Center for 15 days. After he came back, agents from the university 610 Office put him under house arrest and forced him to attend several brainwashing "transformation" sessions held at the university. Around December 26, 2000, agents from the university security office intercepted Mr. Hu on the road for no reason. He was arrested and sent to Changsha Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp for one year. They stopped giving him his retirement pension. In 2002, after he came back from the forced labor camp, personnel from the university 610 Office continuously harassed Mr. and Mrs. Hu.

Late in November 2004, Mr. Hu visited his daughter's family in Changsha. After being there less than half a month, the 610 Office personnels harassed him with phone calls every day. There were several calls each day, which made the whole family unable to have any peace. The couple had to return home from Changsha on December 13, 2004, to ask the 610 Office why they were harassing them in Changsha. Two days later at noon, Mr. Hu died suddenly. The injustice to him and his family was never redressed.

Mr. Zhou Chuanhui, 64 years old, is a retired professor. He was arrested and imprisoned in the detention center and jailed twice. His home was ransacked three times, he had 10,000 yuan confiscated from him, and his salary was suspended for at least 10 months.

Mr. Tang Zhaomei, 69 years old, is a retired professor. In June 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal and was subsequently imprisoned in the detention center for one month. In September 2001, agents from the university security office and the political security section of the municipal police wanted to "render meritorious service, get a promotion and win a reward," so they arranged for a spy to take some truth clarification materials to his home on September 14 at 9:00 a.m. Fifteen minutes later, the police broke down the door, confiscated his family's belongings, and imprisoned him in Sanjiaoping Jail for one month under the pretext that he was in possession of forbidden material.

Ms. Zhang Lihua, 64 years old, is a retired teacher. She went to Beijing to appeal in June 2000. She was arrested and detained for 15 days. In February 2001, she was detained in Xiangtan County Qilipu.

Ms. Xing Jingying, 65 years old, is a retired teacher. In June 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested and detained for 15 days. In 2001, she was forced to write a guarantee statement and fainted from the pressure. That Chinese New Year, she was imprisoned in the detention center for more than a month.

Mr. Du Zefu, 66 years old, is retired. In June 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal. He was arrested and detained for 15 days. In January 2001, he was imprisoned in the detention center for one month.

Ms. Liu Xiantao, 50 years old, is a staff member in the Department of Law. In January 2001, she was imprisoned in the detention center for one month.

Ms. Qin Sanfeng, 63 years old, is a retired teacher. In January 2001, Ms. Qin was sentenced to a forced labor camp for one-and-a-half years. Because she did not pass a physical examination, she was sent to the detention center, where she was imprisoned for four months. When she returned to the university in April 2001, she only got 200 yuan for living expenses.

Ms. Deng Manrong is a retired teacher's family member. In June 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested and detained for 15 days. In 2001, she was forced to write a guarantee statement. If she did not write one, she would not be allowed to go home for the New Year celebration.

Ms. Li Xia graduated from Xiangtan University. She went to the university to visit her classmates. In 2000, the university found truth clarification leaflets on campus and suspected Ms. Li Xia. Qi Hanqiu from the Xiangtan University security office made a special trip to Shanghai to arrest Ms. Li. She was sent to Baimalong Forced Labor Camp for one year.

The 610 Office and the Police in Laizhou City, Shandong Province Persecute Ms. Zhang Chengfang

On April 18, 2003, Ms. Zhang Chengfang was arrested and sent to a detention center. For three straight days, the prison guards brutally tortured her during the day and deprived her of sleep during the night.

Ms. Zhang's hands were cuffed together with one arm over the shoulder and another behind her back. To inflict more pain, the guards would continuously pull her arms up while her hands were still cuffed. The perpetrators who tortured Ms. Zhang include Yu Zhiping, Shi Bintao, Wang Yongguang, Liu Weibin and two female prison guards. They were led by former 610 Office Directors Wang Zenwen and Liu Jinbin.

The guards tormented Ms. Zhang until she passed out and white foam came out of her mouth. Only then would they release the handcuff. However, when she regained consciousness, they would cuff her hands again. They repeatedly tortured her this way until they got tired. After that, the prison guards surrounded Ms. Zhang and pushed her in all directions as though she was a human ball. They laughed maliciously as they tortured Ms. Zhang in this way.

Yu Zhiping stepped on Ms. Zhang's head with his boot and poked her neck with a needle. He grabbed her hair and pulled her head forward and upward, pulling out some of her hair. He also used a small bamboo stick to force her eyelids open. He was laughing hard as he tormented her.

When another guard came in, one of them told him, "You should have came earlier to see all the fun. I was laughing so hard."

Shi Bintao slapped Ms. Zhang's face with Falun Gong books. As he was slapping her, he murmured profanities.

When the guards were tired of torturing Ms.Zhang, they forced her to squat down. Her feet had to line up or they would kick and hit her.

On the morning of the third day, the prison guards started to torture Ms. Zhang again. Ju Zhiping threw a long rope at Ms. Zhang and threatened that he would strangle her by saying, "After I strangle you, we will say that you committed suicide."

Besides being tortured during the day, Ms. Zhang was also forced to do hard labor. At night, she had to so-called "stand guard" and could not sleep. She was also not allowed to do the Falun Gong exercises or to speak to anyone. As a result, Ms. Zhang's health deteriorated. The police were afraid that she would die at the detention center, so they sent her to the hospital. Even when she was put into the car, the prison doctor, Wu Huimei, slapped Ms. Zhang's face and said, "She will pay for everything- the car, our salary, and all other expenses. I have my way."

The police not only tortured practitioners, they also extorted money from the practitioners and their family. The day when Ms. Zhang was arrested, she had three 100 yuan bills in her pocket. There were only two bills left when she examined her clothes at the detention center. Later, the police extorted 20,000 yuan from her older son and 4,000 yuan from her younger son before they released her. Also, when Ms. Zhang was interrogated, Wang Zenwen asked, "Where is your bank book?" because they did not find her bank book or cash when they searched Ms. Zhang's home.

On the day Ms. Zhang was released from the detention center, Wu Huimei illegally closed her account and kept all the money in it. In total, Ms. Zhang lost almost 25,000 yuan. The police divided all the money amongst themselves.

The main perpetrators who persecute Falun Gong practitioners in Laizhou City are: 610 Office personnel Sun Yabo, Wang Zenwen and Yuan Luformer; former police bureau director Sun Songjun, Gu Yuping, Xu Haisheng, Yang Xiandi, and Zhang Lianlei. Under the direction of the 610 Office, the police from the township police stations and other smaller police stations often break into and ransack practitioners' homes. They also illegally detain practitioners, send them to a forced labor camp, sentence them to prison, or taken them to brainwashing centers. They brutally persecute those who follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.

In 2001, Wang Zenwen, former Head of the 610 Office, arrested a 50-year-old female practitioner and locked her to the Death Bed for 25 consecutive days. When he was at the Dianzi Brainwashing Center, he kept the money that was extorted from practitioners. Prison guards Liu Weibin and Yang Dianxin, and former director of Yidao Police Station Jia Dianliang extorted 3,000 to 5,000 yuan from each of the 40 practitioners detained in the Dianzi brainwashing center. Receipts were not given.

At around the beginning of 2001, prison doctor Wu Huimei (female) from Laizhou City Detention Center used electric batons to shock at least three female practitioners, including Liu Hongying and Liu Wenxiang. One practitioner had blisters all over the right side of her face.

The Police in Tianmen City, Hubei Province, Break into and Ransack a School Teacher's Home

Note: The following is a condensed version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).

On November 9, 2006, Ms. He Meirong, a teacher in Tianmen City, Hubei Province, was in her office correcting students' homework when the school principal, Du Zhongliang, and Director He from the Zaoshi Police Station asked her to come out for a talk. She saw through their ill intention, so she refused to go with them. She tried to run away, but the two caught her and dragged her to the school entrance. They tired to force her to turn in her room key, but she refused. With the help of some kindhearted people, she was able to escape.

Under the direction of 610 Office director Wang Xiaoping, policeman Xiao Changbing led dozens of people to ransack Ms. He's home. They broke in and took away her computer, printer, copy paper, purse, Master Li's portrait, Falun Gong books and articles, and an MP3s, among other things. As a matter of fact, the local police have ransacked her home many times. At present, she still cannot return to her teaching position.
