  • Ms. Jing Honghua Is Arrested on Her Way to Her Father's Funeral

In November 2006, practitioner Ms. Jing Honghua, who was forced to leave home and became homeless in order to avoid arrest and persecution, went to Shandong Province to attend the funeral of her father, who had died suddenly. She was arrested by the police officers at the Harbin Airport simply because she brought with her a copy of "Zhuan Falun. She was then sent back to Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province, and was detained at the Yilan No. 2 Detention Center for more than ten days.

In the seven years since July 20, 1999, Ms. Jing Honghua and her family have been brutally persecuted.

On January 6, 2000, Ms. Jing Honhua's husband, Mr. Song Ruiyi, was arrested by the Yilan County Police Department and held at the Yilan County No. 2 Detention Center for 77 days. He also had 6,900 yuan extorted from him because he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. During his detention he suffered from cruel torture. He was forced to stand still for a long period of time, he was beaten, his head was pushed into the toilet, and he was made to "ride an airplane" [1]. Under the instructions of Zhen Jun, head of the detention center, and Lin Zhong, deputy head, criminal Sun Hui tortured Ms. Jing Honghua's husband all day long. As a result, Mr. Song Ruiyi was covered all over with cuts and bruises and developed edema. One day, incited by Lin Zhong, criminal Sun Hui and others kicked Mr. Song's back with their leather shoes and pushed his head into the toilet. They pored cold water over his head and even beat him while squeezing his neck with a towel. Mr. Song lost consciousness instantly.

In November 2000, Mr. Song Ruiyi was arrested once again and detained at the Chengnan Police Sub-station. He was badly beaten by the section policeman, Liu Qingtao, and then was escorted to Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City. He was sentenced to one year of forced labor. He was injured physically and mentally .

On December 29, 2001, Mr. Song Ruiyi and several other practitioners went to the countryside to hand out truth-clarification materials. They were reported by the farmers from Xingfu Village, Tuanshanzi Township. They were detained and taken to the office of the village committee and beaten by Zhao Chungui, the head of the village; Tan Chunqing, head of Security' and Yun Yufang, Head of the Women's Association. Ren Dashuo, a villager, used an iron bar to hit the back of a woman practitioner over 60 years old. She was knocked down to the floor. Mr. Song Ruiyi and other practitioners were taken to Yilan County Guest House by Zhang Huanyou, head of the Tuanshanzi Police Substation, and his men. Mr. Song's tricycle was confiscated by Xingfu Village and was illegally sold at a later date. At the Yilan County Guest House, the county 610 Office, the Political and Security Section and the Police Department together cruelly beat the practitioners and extorted confessions from them by torture. This frenzied torture lasted for 36 hours. Mr. Song was badly beaten and made to "carry a sword on his back" [2], which ruined his health physically and mentally. Later, Mr. Song was escorted to Yilan County No. 2 Detention Center. In order to protest the torture he began a hunger strike. Zheng Jun, the head of the detention center, ordered the prison guards and the criminals to force feed him with thick salt water, which seriously damaged his stomach. He was on the verge of death. Mr. Song was on hunger strike for 14 days before he was released since the detention center did not want to bear the responsibility for his possible death. Upon returning home, Mr. Song was extremely weak and was unable to eat. He was affected mentally as well.

On December 29, 2001, the Yilan County Police Department began another round of arrests. In order to avoid being arrested and persecuted by the police, Ms. Jing Honghua and her husband, Mr. Song Ruiyi, were forced to leave home and became homeless. They left behind a 76-year-old mother and a 16-year-old daughter. As a result of her son being repeatedly arrested, the elderly lady was injured physically and mentally. She had pains in her leg, but still managed to cook for her granddaughter. She depended totally on her neighbors for shopping needs. During this period of time when Mr. Jing Honghua and her husband wandered from place to place, the local police substation forced the village to provide funds for them to track down the couple. To hide from the police, the couple moved a lot and lived a very poor existence. Due to the mental pressure, the financial difficulties, and suffering from cuts and bruises covering his body, Mr. Song became even weaker. He had pains in his stomach from the damage caused by forced feeding. As a result, he lost his appetite. As they wandered from place to place, Mr. Song became very ill and died on November 3, 2002.

Ms. Jing Honghua was unable to return home and was forced to become homeless in order to avoid arrest and persecution. When her father, who lived in Shandong Province, died suddenly, Ms. Jing Honghua planned to hasten home for his funeral. However, she was arrested and is still being detained.

    Notes:

[1] Riding an airplane – In this torture, the head is bent down until it cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up to the highest point. The hips have to point up. One is forced to keep this position unchanged for a long time. The body in this position somewhat resembles an airplane.

[2] Carrying a sword on the back – The practitioner's hands are tied behind his/her back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. The police then apply a great deal of force to pull the two hands toward one another and handcuff the two hands together.

Mr. Gao Song Is on the Brink of Death, Illegally Imprisoned in a Forced Labor Camp by Police in Baishan City in Jilin Province

Mr. Gao Song is a Falun Gong practitioner from Hunjiang Electric Power Company of Baishan City, Jilin Province. He was recognized as a good person. It became known throughout the city that police from Dangxing District Police Department had arrested and were persecuting Mr. Gao. His family members went to Bai Liming, deputy chief of the distrcit police department, and Liu Tiancheng, head of the detention center. Their attitude was very helpful on the surface. They claimed that they would help to think of ways to gain the release of Mr. Gao, whose health was failing. They and case staff members Zhang Yong and Sun Yu said that they were "discussing options," but on November 20, they sent Gao Song to Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun for two years of imprisonment.

Gao Song's wife was shocked when she received the sad news. She carried her one-year-old baby to the law department of the municipal police bureau to request the release of her husband. She knelt down before the police of the law department and begged them to release her extremely emaciated husband, because his mother had cancer and his father was also not in good health. Gao Song's child was only a year old, his wife was unemployed ,and they completely depended on his salary and leadership.

The Dongxing police sub-bureau made mischief, and claimed that if flyers and signs exposing the arrest of Gao Song were posted everywhere, then Gao Song would suffer more. They tried to make Gao's family misunderstand and even hate practitioners' righteous actions to rescue Gao Song. In the meantime, they covered up their persecution of a good person.

Gao Song was always on a hunger strike to protest his illegal detainment and persecution. At the forced labor camp, he was force fed and is now on the brink of death. His wife got news from Changchun that her husband could no longer walk. He had to be supported by other people. He was brutally forced fed and he lost control of his bladder and bowels.

Gao Song was tortured because he persisted in his belief. Bones in his back and feet were broken. He lay in bed over eight months. He is still extremely weak and cannot do routine housework.

On the morning of November 10, 2006, Gao Song was again arrested by two officers with the National Security Group of Dongxing District Police Department in Baishan City at his workplace, and was illegally detained at the detention center of Baishan City. His supervisors said that he was a good employee and did not approve of the arrest. However, the police insisted on taking him away and they showed the a document that claimed Gao Song distributed flyers. That afternoon a policeman named Fan (Cell: 86-13843907769), together with another policeman and a community security guard, searched the house without a search warrant. They stole a laptop computer and a Falun Gong book. When Gao Song's wife stopped the police from taking the computer, they lied and said that they were only taking it away for investigation. They confiscated 1000 yuan from Gao Song's toolbox at work and another 100 yuan from his pockets without giving a receipt.

On November 13 Gao Song's wife and his family members went to Dongxing Police Sub-bureau to request his release They met the deputy director in charge, Bai Liming; the case staff persons, Sun Yu and Zhang Yong; and a policeman named Fan. The family explained that Mr. Gao followed Falun Gong's principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance,' fulfilled every responsibility at work, and got along with his colleagues. His excellent behavior was praised by his supervisors and colleagues. He financially supported many poor students, and the students and their parents were grateful to him, yet he never showed off.

On November 14, after getting permission from the detention center to visit Gao Song, his wife and family members went to the center. When they arrived the director said the Dongxing Police Sub-bureau did not allow the visit. The family members immediately went to the police sub-bureau to find the director and national security officials. They said that they did not have the authority to forbid the visit. The officials dodged each other and said that Gao Song did not have any problem and his detainment was only due to orders from their supervisor and the policy of persecution. They tried to find an excuse for persecution. They said: "Gao Song's moral character is nothing more than excellent. He has been recognized by his supervisors and colleagues as a good person, however, we received money from the CCP and we have no choice."

On November 15 Gao Song's family members took his child and went to the detention center to visit him. Mr. Gao had been on a hunger strike for five days and his lips were dry and chapped. He was extremely weak, and his face had turned purple and he looked thin and pale. The detention center led Gao Song's family members and Gao Song to a hospital for a physical examination. The results showed that Gao Song had tuberculosis with a buildup of fluids in his chest cavity. His family members went to the Dongxing Police Sub-bureau and called for his release. Deputy director Bai Liming said that the director was not available and they had to wait until he was back.

Bai Liming and case staff members Zhang Yong and Sun Yu condemned Mr. Gao Song to two years of forced labor, and on November 20 they quietly sent him to Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun.

Qinghua University PhD Student Wang Xin from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province Is in Jail for Practicing Falun Gong

Because Mr. Wang Xin, a PhD student at Qinghua University, has held fast to his righteous belief, he has been sentenced to nine years in prison. He is being held in Huazi Prison in Liaoyang. The brutal persecution has made him very weak.

Mr. Wang Xin is from the Shenhe District of Shenyang City and is 27 years old. He was a PhD student at Qinghua University in the Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanics. He is the recipient of the Excellent Cadre Scholarship, Haolaixi Alumnus Scholarship, and the Xiyueyueying Scholarship from the university for his achievements. He was once the class minitor and the vice chairman of the science association of the department.

While studying at Qinghua University in 1996, he witnessed the enormous change in his teacher before and after practicing Falun Gong, so he too began to practice.

Wang Xin was suspended by the university and was told, "If you cannot break away from Falun Gong mentally and spiritually, do not come back to school."

His girlfriend was not allowed into a postgraduate program because she practiced Falun Gong. She was such an outstanding student that the university recommended her to a research institute in April 2001. The leadership of the research institute were afraid of becoming involved with a Falun Gong case and were very upset with the university. They reported him when he visited his girlfriend at the research institute. He was arrested by West District Police Department and held in the 7th Division of Beijing City Police Department. On December 13, 2001, the Intermediate People's Court sentenced him to nine years in prison for "crimes" such as "spreading Falun Gong information on the Internet," "using a helium balloon to distribute scrolls of Falun Gong material," and "distributing Falun Gong fliers."

Mr. Wang Xin has had to endure the following persecution:

He was transferred to his local area in 2002 and held in Dabei Prison in Shenyang City.

On June 7, 2002, he was transferred to Huazi Prison. He was held in the No. 3 District Huazi Prison in Liaoyang City.

In July 2004, in order to intensify the persecution, authorities transferred 14 practitioners, including Wang Xin, to the Production District. They all suffered brutal beatings, physical torture, and mental abuse.

Inmates Zhao Hua and Bao Yongsheng brutally beat Mr. Wang on April 10, 2004.

In the middle of September 2005, the prison district guard tried to force Wang Xin and other practitioners to wear IDs. Wang Xin and all the other firm practitioners refused. The guards deprived them of their right to buy personal items, to have their families visit them, and to take showers. Wang Xin began a hunger strike against the persecution, which lasted 99 days.

In April 2006, Wang Xin began a hunger strike after his reasonable requests were denied. He suffered inhuman abuse during the hunger strike, and he is extremely weak.

Wang Xin's mother missed her son very much and was unable to handle the emotional blows. She died at the beginning of 2005.

Huazi Prison illegally held at least 58 practitioners from 2002 to 2004. At least five of them have died. They were: Lian Ping, Fang Xuejun, Yang Zizhong, Zhou Dewei and a practitioner surnamed Wang. Mr. Fang Xuejun, 33 years old, was a staff member from Sangyecheng, Shenyang. He was tortured to death in September 2004 in the Production District Huazi Prison. In order to hide this information, the prison deprived the entire family of visiting rights for one month.

The Persecution of Sun Shuhua, 68, and Her Family in Yitong County, Jilin Province

Sun Shuhua, 68 years old, is from Yitong County, Jilin Province. Since July 1999, she and her family have been brutally persecuted by the Chinese Communist government for practicing Falun Gong. Her husband and her second daughter passed away one after another. Her first daughter's family was torn apart, and that daughter is being illegally detained.

Sun Shuhua and her two daughters started practicing Falun Gong in the spring of 1999. Before she started practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from a protruding lumbar vertebra in her back, and she could not do housework. As the condition got worse, she could not even walk on her own. After she started practicing Falun Gong, all of her illnesses disappeared. Her daughters' bodies and minds were also dramatically purified.

Before July of 1999, Sun Shuhua had a happy family. She had her husband Chen Zhongchang, her first daughter Chen Yuxia and second daughter Chen Yuxian. She also had a son who worked at the county government and had already gotten married.

Since July 20, 1999, Jiang Zemin's regime and the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Sun Shuhua, her two daughters and her entire family were continuously harassed and persecuted.

In December 2000, Chen Yuxia went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, but she was arrested and detained at the Yitong County Detention Center. Her father went to the detention center to bring her some clothes and witnessed her illegal persecution. He could not take the shock and suddenly suffered a stroke. Sun Shuhua had to take care of her husband while enduring the pain of seeing her daughter being illegally detained. After Chen Yuxia was released, her husband was deceived by the CCP's lies and fabrications. He blamed her for the persecution she suffered and for breaking up the family. He divorced her, but Sun Shuhua and her daughter did not falter in the face of these tribulations. They continued to study the Falun Gong teachings and practice Falun Gong as usual.

In August 2002, Chen Yuxia was arrested again and sent to a brainwashing session for persecution. After 3 days, Chen Yuxia and two other practitioners climbed over of the wall of the brainwashing center and escaped into the surrounding cornfield. They quietly hid in the corn field, and after a minute, they heard the police fire some shots towards the cornfield. After the police gave up the search, the practitioners tried to walk to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, even though they did not have any money. When they walked to the Daheishan area in Liaoning Province, they were arrested by the police again and were taken back to the Yitong County Detention Center. Policemen Ma Gang and others used a wooden stake to hit Chen Yuxia very hard. Chen Yuxia's body was covered with bruises, and she coughed up blood. The other two practitioners were sent to the Chaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. One of them was tortured to death, which has been reported on the Minghui website. Chen Yuxia's tragedy had a huge impact on her father, who was seriously ill with pancreatic cancer. Chen Zhongchang passed away in September 2002, without a chance to see his daughter before he died. Chen Yuxia continued to be brutally tortured in the detention center, and she frequently coughed up blood from the injuries. She was released in November, when her life was in great danger.

Sun Shuhua's second daughter Chen Yuxian went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in the beginning of 2001. When her husband found out, he was deceived by the CCP's false propaganda and worried that his family would be implicated. He forbade Chen Yuxian from practicing Falun Gong and began hitting and yelling at her. Chen Yuxian could not practice Falun Gong and study Falun Gong teachings as regularly as before. Her body and mind suffered a sharp decline. In mid-November 2003, she suddenly suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, and passed away on December 4, 2003.

Chen Yuxia had been taking care of her younger sister Chen Yuxian in Changchun City. On December 4, Chen Yuxia went home to bring her mother to see Chen Yuxian one last time. Just as she arrived, the police broke into their home and arrested Chen Yuxia and her mother. At the same time, the bad news came from Changchun City that Chen Yuxian had just passed away.

Sun Shuhua's son lost his younger sister. His mother and elder sister were arrested. Since there is no place for him to appeal for Falun Gong and his family, he had to spend a lot of money to redeem his mother. Sun Yuxia was illegally sentenced for 3 years and was sent to the Heizuizi Prison in Changchun City for persecution.

When Sun Shuhua returned home, she saw that her home was in shambles. She had to ask her relatives for help. Her once happy family was destroyed because of the persecution she suffered just for practicing Falun Gong and trying to be a good person. Her husband died, her first daughter was illegally sentenced and divorced, and her second daughter died, leaving behind an 11-year-old daughter and a 20-month-old daughter.

Falun Gong gave Sun Shuhua great strength and has helped her make it through these enormous tribulations. Sun Shuhua was illiterate before, but now she can study the Fa without assistance, and she can read articles on the Minghui website and Falun Gong-related materials.

Information About Ms. Liu Liyun's Death in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Liyun of Huludao City, Liaoning Province was illegally sentenced to four years imprisonment on December 6, 2001. She was persecuted in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison, and died on July 23, 2002, at the age of 44. The prison claimed that she died from illness and forcibly cremated her body. The following is some information that an insider recently provided about Ms. Liu's death as a result of persecution.

    Liu Liyun

In the spring of 2002, Ms. Liu Liyun was illegally imprisoned in the seventh group of the prison. Because she persisted in practicing Falun Gong, refused to cooperate with the evil's orders, and shouted, "My Teacher is great, Falun Dafa is great."

A guard placed Ms. Liu in solitary confinement. They tied her hands up behind her back, beat her cruelly with electric batons, and provided her with only a tiny bit of food.

Later, Ms. Liu was tortured to her last gasp, and she very much wanted to have a drink of water. A prison guard brought some water over to her mouth and asked her if she would still shout. Ms. Liu nodded her head and said, "Yes." The guard then took away the water.

When prison officials found out that Ms. Liu had died, they immediately fabricated a story. They moved her into a hospital and spread a lie that Ms. Liu had died from a hunger strike. In order to cover up their crime, director Hu and the head of the group directed a criminal to write a fabricated document with his fingerprint on it. They ordered him not to disclose this. The name of the criminal who wrote the fabricated document is Zhang Ping, who was later transferred to the eighth group. The rest of the name of director Hu is not known.

Ms. Liu Liyun was illegally imprisoned three times before her death. In July of 2000, she was imprisoned in a brainwashing session in Yangjia Zhangzi for over forty days. On June 23, 2000, she was imprisoned somewhere in Huludao City for thirty days. In December 2001, she was imprisoned in a detention center in Huludao City. She was sentenced to four years imprisonment on December 16, 2001. Her husband Hu Baochun was sent to a forced labor camp four times. He was persecuted at the Huludao City Labor Camp. After going on a hunger strike for over one hundred days, he was released, as he was at his last breath.

Huang Jingxian and His Wife Are Persecuted in Guangdong Province

Practitioner Mr. Huang Jiangxian is from Huidong, Guangdong Province. He and his wife have been persecuted since July 1999. His wife has been forced into homelessness, while Mr. Huang has been "illegally imprisoned" in a forced labor camp.

Huang Jingxian was a soldier in the army in Beihai, Guangxi Province, before he began practicing Falun Gong. Because the Chinese Communist Party has been trying to destroy the traditional Chinese culture and values, the level of morality among the soldiers and officers in the CCP army was poor. Mr. Huang committed bad deeds and was infected by terrible diseases.

After he retired from the army, Huang Jiangxian became a police officer at a local police station in Huidong. They were like gang members in uniforms. He was again in an immoral environment.

Fortunately, Mr. Huang met a female practitioner and married her. Due to the CCP's lies about Falun Gong, for a long period of time he could not accept what his wife said about Falun Gong, so he beat and verbally abused her, trying to force her to stop practicing. His wife clarified the truth to him with great patience. Because of the might of Falun Gong, he realized that Falun Dafa is good and her words were true. When he recognized how evil the CCP truly was, Huang began practicing himself. He got rid of his bad habits by requiring himself to be a better person. In the meantime, he started clarifying the truth at his work place and in society to expose the lies of the CCP. Many people learned the truth about Falun Gong from him.

In early 2005, Mr. Huang and his wife were reported to the Huidong Police Station. They were arrested and sent to the detention center, where they were severely tortured. The detention center wanted to reject Huang's wife because she had heart disease, but the police still tortured her while she was there. Her heart problem recurred during the torture and she lost consciousness twice. It took more than two hours for her to come to. The police sentenced her to two years of forced labor. She was constantly harassed by local State Security officers, so she had to stay away from her home and became homeless.

In the detention center, the local State Security officers beat Huang Jiangxian and smashed his head against the wall. When he passed out during the torture, the police videotaped him and said that his death would be reported as suicide.

Later Huang Jingxian was imprisoned in Sanshui Forced Labor Camp for two years, during which period he tried to escaped once on the way to a hospital. Policemen Chen Zhao and Ke Yujian caught him and beat him severely. They stepped on his face and pressed it against the cement floor, which caused a cut of four centimeters. Afterwards Mr. Huang was detained in an isolated small cell for one week. Around March and April of 2005, Director He of the 3rd Branch of Sanshui Forced Labor Camp beat other inmates who were forced to watch the practitioners. Mr. Huang was locked in an isolated cell again because he exposed the violence. Director Lei Huiqing threatened him several times while he was locked in the isolated cell.

The wardens were afraid of people knowing the truth, so they prohibited the inmates from having conversations with practitioners. If they did, the inmates would have their terms extended. However, many inmates learned the truth about Falun Gong after having contact with practitioners, and some of them even became practitioners themselves.

During a written "test" given by the guards, Mr. Huang Jingxian did not answer the questions. He said aloud, "Falun Dafa is Good" as he was forced to leave the room. The sound of his voice shook the entire building and the guards were alarmed. Because of this, he was locked in an isolated cell again. He went on a hunger strike for three months to protest, but the police force-fed him brutally everyday. Then he was detained at Group 4 of the No. 3 Branch of Sanshui Forced Labor Camp and was watched closely by four inmates who were about to be released from the camp.

Practitioner Ms. Cui Hongyan from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province Is Arrested

At about 8:00 a.m. on November 1, 2006, practitioner Ms. Cui Hongyan was illegally arrested by police from Tieren District and Youyi Community Police Station in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province.

Recently, more than 30 of Ms. Cui's relatives filed a petition to the appropriate judicial department, challenging the legality of her arrest. They reasoned that her practice of Falun Gong was a right to personal belief guaranteed by the Constitution. They argued that sentencing her to prison was illegal. Tieren Public Safety Sub-Bureau and its officers were therefore illegally arresting good citizens, which is clearly against the law. Ms. Cui Hongyan's relatives demanded her unconditional release and promised to hold responsible those in violation of the law.

The petitioners were: Cui Hongyan's relatives: Cui Jincai, Wu Guiqin, Wang Yuxiang, Yuan Yi, Yuan Baocai, Cui Honglan, Cui Jinzhi, and many others.

Main content: Filing a petition in protest of the arrest of Ms. Cui Hongyan, which was approved by Saqu's Prosecution Court (order number 625 [2006]).

Facts: On November 1, 2006, Ms. Cui Hongyan, an innocent 43-year-old Water Supply Company employee, was arrested by policemen Zhang Jiqing, Chen, and Guo from Youyi Community Police Station. The family members appearing at the scene strongly protested the arrest and demanded to see the director of the bureau, Sun Xiufan. They questioned the legality of the so-called "security deposit" of 10,000 yuan and the confiscation of a computer last year. Zhang Jiqing said that the police would not acknowledge or take responsibility for such a thing.

At about 9:00 a.m. Ms. Cui was dragged into a police car. Her sisters tried to rescue her, but they were knocked to the ground by officer Zhang Jiqing. Ms. Cui was taken to Tieren Sub-Bureau, where she was tied to a metal chair with both hands cuffed behind her back. While she was handcuffed, the police attempted to obtain fingerprints, but she did not cooperate with this procedure. Her relatives were asked to sign documents, but they all refused. Police threatened the them by telling them, "You have committed the crime of attempting a cover-up and will be arrested for it." Her family members informed the police that the victimizing of good people would bring them misfortune. Ma Yunming responded, "Since the Communist Party pays me 500 yuan for each Falun Gong practitioner I arrest, I will become quite rich if I arrest ten of you."

When one relative called Director Sun Xiufan regarding the return of the 10,000 yuan that was extorted last year, Sun relied, "The statute of limitations on that has passed." Police not only extorted large sums of money, but also victimized Cui Hongyan by locking her up in the Daqing Detention Center for a month without allowing family visitations.

The "notice of arrest" identified the crime as "being involved in an illegal activity." This was untrue and unfounded. Our country's Constitution clearly states: "Citizens of the People's Republic of China have the right to freedom of speech, publication, gathering, forming of a party, freedom of religion, parade, and demonstration."

Ms. Cui Hongyan was frail with many illnesses since childhood. The joints of her hands, feet, and legs began to swell and enlarge when she was quite young. In 1994 she was struck by a Water Supply Company truck, and she ended up in a coma. Doctors indicated she would be paralyzed for life and require expensive medical treatment. In 1997, soon after starting to practice Falun Gong, miracles happened! She was able to walk, and six months later all her illnesses disappeared! Neighbors and colleagues were surprised. She conducted herself as a true practitioner, living her life according to Falun Gong's principles "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" and thinking of others before herself. Her colleagues and superiors alike appreciated and admired her.

Since July 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong began, Ms. Cui Hongyan, a good person, has become a target of this persecution. She has done nothing wrong! She has benefited from practicing Falun Gong and regained her physical and mental health. How could being a good person be wrong? If she had not practiced Falun Gong, she would have been dead long ago.

We are concerned for Ms.. Cui Hongyan and her family. Her son is still in high school and will soon take the college entrance exams. He worries every day in school and thinks about when his mother will return home. Cui Hingyan's 80-year old mother-in-law fell ill when she heard that her daughter-in-law had been arrested. Her parents, over 70 years old, have been tearful every day while visiting different departments trying to inquire as to when their daughter will return home again. They have not received any encouraging answers and no one will take responsibility for their daughter's predicament.

Ms. Cui Hongyan is practicing Falun Gong, her personal belief guaranteed and permitted under the Constitution. Therefore, arresting her is not legal and sentencing her to prison is not warranted. The policemen from Tieren District (Sun Xiufan, Ma Yunming, Cui Enzhong, Zhang Jiqing, and others) have violated Articles 238, 243, 245, 247, 248, 397, and 399 of China's Constitution. They have committed crimes including: illegal arrest and imprisonment, providing false evidence, illegal search and interrogation, extorting a confession, obtaining information by torture and terror, mistreating a detainee, illegally depriving a citizen of freedom of belief, excessive use of authority, etc. We have identified our legal rights, acknowledge the responsibility of police officials in this matter, and demand the immediate and unconditional release of Cui Hongyan.
