  • Urgent Rescue: New York Resident's Brother Hu Zhiming Is Very Weak After Seven Month Hunger Strike in Jinzhou Prison, Liaoning Province

My younger brother Hu Zhiming is a Falun Gong practitioner, and he is now detained in the Nanshan Prison in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. Several days ago, my older brother visited him and found that Hu Zhiming was very weak; both of his legs muscles had atrophied due to being unable to move for a long time, and he is in critical condition.

Hu Zhiming started his hunger strike after being detained in Haidian District Detention Center in Beijing in April 2006. He has been on hunger strike continuously for seven months. The Nanshan Prison Administration refuses to release him, and they conduct brutal force-feeding.

According to Minghui.net reports, Falun Gong practitioners have been cruelly tortured in Nanshan Prison all the time. Mr. Cui Zhilin and Mr. Xin Minduo were both tortured to death there, and they died on August 5, 2004, and September 1, 2006 respectively.

Early on the morning of November 21, 2006, I called the Nanshan Prison Head, Xin Tingquan, (male) several times. At first he said he did not know anything and hung up on me. Later he said that the number was the driver's office then hung up again. The third time he said China had a constitution to protect its citizens; the prisoners are treated well and no one dares to torture them. We have revealed many torture cases on Minghui.net, and there were those two practitioners that have been already tortured to death in the prison. Xin Tingquan said, "What can we do if he refuses to eat? They were like that before they were transferred to our prison." Later when I called again, he said he did not have the power to release prisoners unless the court or the Procuratorate gave the order. I told him, "Now my brother is in your prison, so if his life is in danger you cannot escape the responsibility."

The prison administration asked my family to help them brainwash my brother Hu Zhiming, who is on hunger strike to protest the detention. Now the evil is trying to have my family members move to Jinzhou City from our hometown, Dandong City.

My brother Hu Zhiming received his Master's Degree in 1997, and he was employed by the Computer Lab of the Beijing Air-force Equipment Research Institute. He is a Major. After the CCP started persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in 1999, his employer forced him to retire in 2000, and he was detained in Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai City for four years. Upon being released, he found a job in a high-tech company in Beijing, but he was arrested in September 2005 because he revealed the truth of the persecution. He was missing for a long time, and finally my family found him detained in Haidian District Detention Center.

Dr. Shao Hui Tortured to Death Leaving a Young Son Behind, His Wife Mu Ping Arrested Again by Jilin City Police

On October 24, 2006, police from the National Security Team of the Jilin City Police Department in Jilin Province arrested practitioner Ms. Mu Ping from Huadian City in Jilin Province. Later that day, her home was ransacked and her belongings confiscated. The next day she was taken to the Jilin City Detention Center. She is currently in Room 608.

Mrs. Mu Ping's husband, Mr. Shao Hui, was a doctor at the Medical Clinic of the Hongshi Forest Farm of the Hongshi Forestry Bureau in Huadian City. Because he practiced Falun Gong and clarified the truth to people, he was monitored and arrested by police from the Jilin City Police Department. In August 2002, he was tortured to death. He was only 31 years old. To cover up their wrongdoing, the Jilin City police have kept any information about his death from his family.

Ms. Mu Ping and Mr. Shao Hui's Once Happy Family of Three

Even today, Mrs. Mu Ping and Mr. Shao Hui's ten-year-old son still do not know that Mr. Shao is dead. Whenever the boy sees someone that looks like his father, he says "He really looks like my dad." When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, he says that he wants to be a good policeman. He wants to stop bad policemen from arresting good people, so that his father and auntie, also a practitioner, sentenced to a 12-year prison term, can return home.

A Happy Family Broken Apart; Parents Wait for Their Son to Return Home

Ms. Mu Ping, Mr. Shao Hui, and their son were a very happy family. Both parents practiced Falun Gong. Their son was intelligent, handsome, and mature. Since Jiang Zemin began the inhuman persecution of Falun Gong, like millions of other practitioners, they were subjected to inhuman mistreatment and torture.

Ms. Mu and Mr. Shao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in September 1999. The police arrested and detained them after they returned home. At that time, Secretary Zhang Xuecai of the Hongshi Forestry Bureau Party Committee, Director Ma Xijin and Deputy Director Sun Zhiyi of Huadian City Police Department, Section Chief Liu Mingyi and Deputy Chief Li Fuwen of the Political Security Section of the Police Department, Director Zhou Jing of a local police station attempted with many dirty tricks to force practitioners to give up their belief. They treated Mr. Shao and Ms. Mu as "special targets." The police restricted the husband's freedom, withheld his ID card, put them both under surveillance, and monitored their telephone conversations. Before sensitive dates, the police took them to the station for questioning. They told the couple to pay bail or security, but they refused, so the Forestry Bureau withheld the amount from Mr. Shao's salary. Mr. Shao and Ms. Mu's normal lives and work were frequently disrupted.

In April 2000, police from the Political Security Section of Huadian City Police Department broke into and ransacked their home. They confiscated Falun Gong books and a mini recorder. The police then detained them.

In November 2000, Hongshi Forestry Bureau planned to send the firm practitioners to forced labor camps. On November 21, Mr. Shao and Ms. Mu were arrested again. At the detention center, Mr. Shao was beaten and threatened by Deputy Director Wang Ruiqing. When an inmate sat in the lotus position, Wang Ruiqing thought that Mr. Shao had taught him the Falun Gong exercises. Mr. Shao was dragged out of the cell, brutally beaten, and tortured. Even the inmates in the cell thought this was unfair. Mr. Shao was also tortured when he was interrogated by guards Fang Weimin and Li Changyu from the Criminal Investigation Team and two guards. He was beaten, deprived of sleep, and forced to squat for about 20 hours.

In December 2000, both Mr. Shao and Ms. Mu were sentenced to three years of forced labor. Mr. Shao was taken to Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp in Jilin City. He was tortured and his freedom was restricted. He was forced to do hard physical labor and was beaten and verbally abused daily. He was ordered to give up his belief. To reach the target '"transformation" ratio,' the guards tortured practitioners with many different devices. Practitioners were beaten, shocked with electric batons, deprived of sleep, put on short food rations, and forced to sit on benches for a long time. One method was to force practitioners to sit on a two-inch-wide wooden strip. Some practitioners' buttocks were injured and full of pus from sitting too long. Mr. Shao was full of scabies and he had two long scars on his forehead from these tortures.

In December 2001, practitioners at the Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp were taken to Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jiutai City in Jilin Province. Jiutai City Forced Labor Camp utilized many instruments of torture, such as the white dragon stick, spiked club, wicker whip, electric baton, hard rubber tube, tiger bench, and so on.

In February and March 2002, the guards began again to try to "transform" firm practitioners. Everyday the sizzling sound of the electric batons, the beating of sticks and whips, and the guards' shouting could be heard throughout the buildings. Practitioners were beaten brutally, and some became disabled. The guards talked to Mr. Shao many times and laid many torture instruments on the table to threaten him. At the end of February, one practitioner was beaten to death. Mr. Shao and other practitioners felt that they should not passively bear the torture any more. The persecution of practitioners should be stopped. Mr. Shao decided to escape the labor camp to frustrate the authorities.

On March 31, 2002, Mr. Shao escaped from the forced labor camp when he went out to work. The labor camp officials were afraid and had the police search for him. Police from Jilin City searched at every practitioner's home who had known Mr. Shao Hui, but they did not find him. Mr. Shao Hui's successful escape greatly frustrated the evil, and also greatly encouraged other practitioners at the camp. Guards from the forced labor camp looked for him everywhere. Since they could not find him, they harassed his parents and relatives. They wanted to arrest his wife, Ms. Mu Ping, but her relatives stopped them. Then they asked Ms. Mu to report to a police station daily and provide information about her husband. She refused. At that time, Ms. Mu had just been released from a forced labor camp and was very weak as result of torture.

On the tenth day after Mr. Shao's escape, Ms. Mu was arrested by Zhang Xuecai, Zhang Qing, Zhou Jing, and others. She was taken to a forced labor camp. In June 2002, Mr. Shao Hui's elder sister, practitioner Mrs. Shao Zhen, was arrested by police from Huadian City Police Department for making truth-clarification materials. She was sentenced to a 12-year prison term.

After escaping from the forced labor camp, Mr. Shao went into hiding. He still used many methods to clarify the truth to people.

In August 2002, police from the Jilin City Police Department followed Mr. Shao to the apartment he had rented at Building 2 in the Fengman District in Jilin City. A practitioner who stayed with Mr. Shao jumped out of the window on the seventh floor and was severely injured. Mr. Shao was arrested and tortured to death in the room. To cover up their crimes, the Jilin City police have not informed Ms. Mu Ping or other relatives of Mr. Shao Hui's death.

Mr. Shao's parents searched for their son for over two years. Worrying about him made them sick and they became bedridden. The overwhelming hardship made his father lose his eyesight. His mother had a spine fracture when she fell, and she developed high blood pressure. This elderly couple suffered exhaustion and illnesses and were sick with worry, but they still had to take care of their grandson, Mr. Shao Hui's son.

At the forced labor camp, because Mrs. Mu Ping was firm in her belief, she was tortured many times. When she was in critical condition, the staff at the forced labor camp became afraid that she would die and released her in October 2003.

"Mom, I Am Afraid That You Will Be Arrested by the Bad People When You Are Out."

Mr. Shao and Ms. Mu 's son, Shao Linyao, is 10 now. Mr. Shao and Mrs. Mu became practitioners when little Linyao was only a month old. Little Linyao grew up in a harmonious family and a healthy environment. Not only was he intelligent and good-looking, but he was also very mature. Whoever met him liked him.

Mr. Shao Hui and Ms. Mu Ping's son, Shao Linyao

But Shao has experienced loneliness and fear and suffered separation from his parents since he was three. After his parents' arrest, he cried every day. When he cried, he did not make a sound, but just kept wiping away his tears. He also cried in bed and many times woke up in tears. Once he went with his grandmother, uncle, and aunt to visit his mother at the forced labor camp. He thought that trip was to bring his mommy home. But when they left, he did not find her in the car. He burst into tears, asking his grandmother why his mom did not come home with them. He cried during the four-hour trip home, until he lost his voice. At the day care, he sometimes cried suddenly. When the teacher asked him what was wrong, he said that that his parents were being tortured in forced labor camps and that the guards used electric batons to shock them.

When his mother was released on medical leave after being tortured for almost three years, Shao Linyao did not leave her side. He was afraid that he would lose his mother again. Whenever his mother went out in the evening, he would not go to sleep until she came back. His mother told him that he needed to go to sleep earlier so that he could get up for school the next day, but he said in tears, "I am afraid that you will be arrested by the bad people when you are out. I can't sleep if you are not home."

In October Police from the Jilin City National Security Team Arrested Mrs. Mu Ping and Froze Her Bank Account

Around 11 a.m. on October 24, 2006, Ms. Mu was arrested by police from the National Security Team of the Jilin City Police Department when she went to pay her taxes at the Chaoyang District Tax Bureau in Changchun City in Jilin Province. They did not show any identification or documents when they arrested her. Later, police from the Jilin City National Security Team and Mengjiatun Police Station of Chaoyang District Police Department in Changchun City ransacked her home, confiscated her computer, cash, a bank deposit card holding seventy thousand yuan, Falun Gong books, and truth-clarification CDs.

The next day, October 25, 2006, Ms. Mu was taken to Jilin City Detention Center. She is currently imprisoned in Room 608. When her relatives heard that police from the National Security Team had arrested her, they called the police to verify this. The police denied that they had arrested her, saying that they did not know where she was. The police then asked her relatives where they had heard this. When her relatives kept asking, the police finally admitted guilt.

Police from the National Security Team took Ms. Mu's bank card and went to Huadian City Construction Bank to freeze the seventy thousand yuan in her account. When her relatives went to the bank to withdraw the money, they were told that her account was frozen. Her mother, 76, was not able to bear all these sudden hardship and suffered a heart attack.

The Facts about the Persecution and Death of Practitioner Mr. Li Zetao from Chongqing City in 2001

Mr. Li Zetao was about 24 years old. He came from Qilong Village, Xianheng, Shimo Town, Jiangjin City, Chongqing City. He was an employee of the Zongsheng Motorcycle Parts Factory of Chongqing City. Because he was reported for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, he was arrested by the Jiulongpo District Police in Chongqing City at the end of June (the Lunar calendar) 2000. At the time, Li Zetao was only wearing underwear. The money in his house, his clothes, and notebook were all confiscated. During his detention, his family members were forbidden to visit him. On April 11, 2001, his family suddenly received a notification from the Shimo Police Station saying that Mr. Li was life-threateningly ill and immediately needed his family to visit. Only when his family members arrived at Chongqing City did they learn that he was detained in Xishanping Forced Labor Camp.

In April 2001, Mr. Li and five other practitioners were transferred from the "Education Ward" to the "Agricultural Squadron" in Xishanping Forced Labor Camp. To commemorate the second anniversary of the peaceful appeal of "April 25," the practitioners in the camp shouted, "Falun Dafa is the righteous! Oppose the persecution!" Guard Huang Fangfu whipped several practitioners on their heads and cheeks with a police baton. Li Zetao and Zhou Jian were handcuffed to a window for over 10 hours.

On April 27, 2001, Li Zetao was severely beaten for moving too slowly at breakfast. When practitioners Zhou Jian and Wang Zhande tried to stop the guards, guard Huang Fangfu handcuffed the three practitioners to a metal window again for two days and nights. They savagely beat practitioners on their heads and faces. They brutally whipped Wang Zhande on his head, which resulted in his left eye discharging blood and pus for over a week.

Since the end of May, the head of the Agricultural Squadron (later the head of the 8th Ward) directed the violent brainwashing of practitioners with a predetermined plan and goal. Because Li Zetao publicly resisted the overtime hard labor, requested the right to write a letter to sue because of the persecution, and demanded the right to practice the Falun Gong exercises, he was considered a real thorn in their side. Guard Du Jun claimed: "(I) wanted to beat him to death a long time ago." Guards Du Jun, Zhang Anmin, and Hu Yuyin and others instructed inmates to torture practitioners using any means they chose and promising them that if they could force a practitioner write a Repentance Statement, their jail term would be reduced by one month.

Since May 29, Li Zetao was forced to fetch manure during the daytime in the Agricultural Squadron. They made him take the heaviest loads. He was not allowed to rest at noon or at night, and he was tortured physically and spiritually. They made him wear a tall paper hat. His arms were tied to wooden sticks and a bucket of urine was hung on each arm. A broom was placed underneath his clothes. He was beaten with fists, kicked with boots, and ridiculed. They wrote words slandering Falun Gong and Master Li on his abdomen and tried to force him to curse Falun Gong and Master Li. They also tried to make him smoke and write the Three Statements. Another brutal act was was when a wicked inmate, Huang Zhongzhi, poked a fruit knife into Li Zetao's anus and incessantly turned the knife. Li Zetao cried out due to the pain. He reported the torture to the cadres of the Party, who paid no attention to it.

On May 30, Li Zetao was beaten again with hoes and wooden levers that were used to carry manure by the inmates under the instructions of guard Gao Ding.

Mr. Li went on a hunger strike to protest the torture but was still forced to do hard labor. On the afternoon of May 31 when Director Long of Xishanping Labor Camp and Tian, the head of the Management and Education Section, went to the agricultural squadron to make an inspection, inmates were beating Li Zetao. Mr. Li ran out of the room to report the torture, but the officers paid no heed. Moreover, Tian even answered, "You deserve it! You deserve it!"

On the morning of June 2, the prisoners were forced to carry wooden boxes on their shoulders. All of the other inmates carried two boxes but the guards forced Li Zetao carry three boxes each time. Mr. Li Zetao died that day. The policemen cremated him the next day. It is not clear exactly what form of torture led to his death.

Before the authorities inspected his body, they didn't notify his family or friends. Only after cremation did they notify his parents in a remote village in Jiangjin to claim the box of ashes. The guards covered up the truth of his death and said that Mr. Li fell off a building while at work and died. Mr. Li's parents arrived barefoot, tears covering their cheeks. They were doubtful but had no choice but to claim their son's ashes.

Police Assault an Elderly Couple Protesting Their Son's Arrest

On the night of November 11, 2006, about eight policemen stopped an older couple who were protesting their son's arrest. The police officers took away a cloth banner (with words of protest) from them. They pushed the elderly lady down on the ground and put the older man into the police vehicle, pulling him just by his hair. They drove away quickly.

Lying on the ground, the older lady saw with her own eyes how her husband was taken away. With the assistance of her other children, she went to the Yunquan Branch of the police department to appeal for his release. When she got there, she saw a police officer chasing her husband. Her husband stumbled and the larger policeman tackled him. The woman and her children pulled the policeman off her husband, who took the chance to continue his escape. Then the policemen took her instead to the Yunquan Branch station and put her into the drug-rehabilitation center to detain her for the night.

    1. No Place to Appeal, Being Intimidated by the Police

This older couple are the parents of Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Hong. Liu Hong is a taxi driver who practices the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Police officer Gao Jinfeng, from Yuanquan Station of the Datong Mining District, arrested Mr. Liu when he was at a fellow practitioner's home on November 7, 2006. They detained him in the detention center. His taxi car has been confiscated ever since then.

Liu Hong's parents went to the Yunquan Branch to ask Gao Jinfeng for their son's release. One policeman knocked his mother down to the ground and swaggered away. He also threatened her and said, "Your actions cannot help you get your son back. Instead, you will make your son even more guilty."

Liu Hong's parents went there every day to ask for their son. The policemen treated them rudely and intimidated them. They said, "If you continue to bother us like this, we will put you in there too, along with your son."

With no place to appeal, the elderly couple then wrote their complaint on a white cloth banner, telling people what had happened to awaken their consciences and kindness. However, the police intercepted and arrested them, subjecting them to persecution on the night of November 14.

    2. Many Practitioners Illegally Arrested and Their Homes Ransacked

On November 7, 2006, the 610 Office in Datong City, Shanxi Province, had a secret meeting, planning to comprehensively implement illegal arrests of Falun Gong practitioners. The National Security Department directly controlled the plan, the 610 Office led it, and the city police department, and every local police station cooperated to persecute practitioners. They broke into the homes of practitioners to ransack them, leaving with much confiscated software and materials. Many practitioners were taken away after their homes were ransacked. Currently, 13 practitioners are still detained.

Policeman Gao Jinfeng from the Yunquan Police Branch led a group of 17 officers to break into practitioner Wang Gaizheng's home at the Western Garden in Datong City. They ransacked the home and confiscated all Falun Gong books, one computer, two printers, one digital camera, four mobile phones, one MP3 player, truth clarifying materials, and some valuable items. They also arrested the five other people at the home, including an eight-year-old child.

Practitioners who are detained include Liu Hong, Qin Junping, Qiao Jiesheng, Tian Fusheng, An Meili, Wang Kaitang, Li Xiulian, Zhang Yunyu, Wang Zhifang, Sun Jianguo, Lao San (true name unknown), and Ms. Wang. It is now known that Zhang Yunyu, Wang Zhifang, Sun Jianguo, and An Meili are detained in the Chenzhuang Detention Center in Datong City. Li Xiulian is detained in the First Detention Center in Datong City. Liu Hong is detained at the detention center in the Datong Mining District.

The police officers who participated in the arrests include Niu Quanxi, Feng Zhiqang, and Zhang Qin (female). Their evil behavior has been exposed on Clearwisdom.net many times. Policeman Gao Jinfeng has followed the evil Jiang regime ever since the persecution began and has mistreated many Falun Gong practitioners.

Germany Resident's Wife Wang Xiaoyan Tortured in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Xiaoyan from Dalian City was illegally arrested and detained in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. At present, she is suffering cruel torture in Masanjia. On October 30, the wicked Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities persecuted Ms. Wang and more than 60 other practitioners. The authorities forced them to write "guarantee statements". For three whole days and nights, one of Ms. Wang's hands was handcuffed up high while the other was handcuffed to the table with the guarantee statement.

Ms. Wang's husband, Zhang Zhentong, is studying in Germany and has tried all he can to rescue his wife. However, Ms. Wang's passport was confiscated by CCP police officers just because she insisted on practicing Falun Gong; therefore, she cannot go to Germany to be with her husband.

On the morning of May 27, Quwei, the deputy chief of the Chunhai Detention Center in the Zhongshan Area, Dalian City, and two other police officers arrested Ms. Wang, searched her house, and confiscated her property. Ms. Wang was sent to the detention center that night. On July 12 she was sentenced and sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp for two years.

At Masanjia, because she insisted on doing the Falun Gong exercises and calling out "Falun Dafa is good," Ms. Wang was handcuffed to a bed on the first floor for a month and a half. During that time, camp official Wang Xiaofeng stuffed a dirty rag into her mouth, official Li Mingyu slapped her face, and official Wang Naimin pinched her mouth, causing serious damage to her face. The left side of her face showed immediate swelling, and even now her face is swollen and has not recovered.

When she was detained in Masanjia, the First Group did not exist. The Second Group held more than 60 practitioners who insisted on practicing Falun Gong and resisted being "transformed." On August 30, Masanjia authorities tortured these 60 non-"transformed" practitioners, including Ms. Wang Xiaoyan, one by one, and forced them to sign the guarantee statement.

They pulled Ms. Wang's body apart using two beds: one of her hands was handcuffed in the highest place on one bed, while the other hand was handcuffed to the lowest part of the other bed for three days and nights. She was not allowed to sleep or take a bath; she could not sit or stand, and the position was very painful.

After three days and nights, two camp authorities, Ma Jishan and Liuyoing (head of the department), tied up Ms. Wang in the Dead Person's Bed torture (1). They forced her to take unknown drugs; three times a day official Cao Jie gave her a chemical that damages the central nervous system. Every time this was done, Ma Jishan used some kind of tool to pull Ms. Wang's mouth open wide, causing her extreme pain. Ms. Wang could not stand it any more and signed the guarantee statement against her will. Other practitioners suffered different kinds of cruel tortures and were also forced to sign the statement.

After the 62 practitioners had been cruelly torture, they were locked up on the second floor (the original First Group) and divided into three teams of 20 practitioners each. Ms. Wang was in the 2nd team. The officers forced Ms. Wang and other practitioners to work in the prison, recite 30 rules, and sing evil CCP songs. Anyone who refused was dragged out and punished. When some practitioners' prison terms were up, they were forced to sign the guarantee statement before they were released; otherwise, they would be tortured all over again.

The tactics used by Masahjia Forced Labor Camp to torture practitioners have already been exposed on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website. Recently, however, practitioner Ms. Liu Xiufen from Chaoyang City was pulled from the group to be tortured for one day and night because she refused to do prison work. When she came back, her wrist was bleeding badly because the guards had handcuffed her as tightly as possible. Practitioner Mr. Wang Baokun was dragged out and tortured for a day and night just because he said, "Falun Dafa is good." After being tortured, his hands and feet were swollen for a long time. Because practitioner Ms. Zhang Liyan from Dandong City refused to sign the prisoner's monthly evaluation list, she was dragged out and hung up to be beaten from early morning to midnight until she agreed to sign. Because practitioner Ms. Qiu Li from Fushun City refused to cooperate in many respects, she was physically abused many times. Ms. Chen Honglan from Benxi City was also beaten by Liu Yong when she refused to sign.

His Wife Serving 13-Year Prison Term, Mr. Yang Zhenfang is Again Sentenced to Forced Labor

Practitioner Mr. Yang Zhenfang is from Mengyin County, Shandong Province. On September 15, 2006, his house was once again raided and he was re-arrested by the Mengyin County police and 610 Office personnel. Later he was sentenced to forced labor. His family has been repeatedly persecuted for the past seven years. His wife, Ms. Teng Derong, was illegally sentenced to a 13-year prison term and has been there ever since.

Mr. Yang and his wife, Ms. Teng, worked at the Mengyin County Construction Committee. He was in charge of the Construction Committee. Since he started practicing Falun Gong, he was honest and did not pursue undeserving interest. The couple were regarded as good people by the work unit. His elder daughter, Yang Junhui, graduated from the Music Department of Linyi Normal Institute and was assigned to teach at the Jiuzhai High School in Mengyin County. She worked diligently and was widely respected and loved by students. She was praised by both teachers and students. Mr. Yang's younger daughter, Qiqi, was still in primary school. The family lived a peaceful life.

In February 2000, Mr. Yang used his legal right to peacefully appeal in Beijing. He was detained for one month. In March 2000, he was sentenced to two years of forced labor. In February of the same year, Ms. Teng was also detained for one month by the Mengyin County Police Department because of her appeal in Beijing.

Their elder daughter, Ms. Yang Junhui, born in 1976, was a teacher at Jiuzhai High School until the school authorities expelled her. In 2000 she was also imprisoned for three months by the Jiuzhai Township Government. During her imprisonment, Ms. Yang was beaten to the point that she was unrecognizable. Her left eye was swollen for half a month. For several days she could not go to the restroom by herself. One evening, township government staff member Zhang Bo was drunk and tortured Yang Junhui viciously. He ordered her to 'horse squat,' count numbers in English, and call him 'dad' in English. With all kinds of despicable tactics, Yang was made to suffer immense mental torture. Zhang Bo has since received karmic retribution and developed uremia.

In May 2000, Ms. Teng Derong had to leave home to avoid the persecution. Around September 20, 2002, she, along with Zhang Dezhen and Gong Shuhua, were arrested by the Mengyin County 610 Office and Daigu Township Police. They were tortured and otherwise brutally beaten by the Mengyin County Criminal Police Group. Teng Derong, who was in her 50s, was tied to the iron chair for four days and nights. This type of torture is known to be extremely painful.

In October 2002, Ms. Teng was sent to the Linyi City Brainwashing Center. She was not allowed to sleep for six days and nights. Later she was sent to the Linyi City Detention Center for imprisonment. She was inhumanly tortured both mentally and physically. She was then sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Around March 2003, Ms. Teng was transferred to Shandong Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Since her health was very poor, the labor camp officials initially refused to accept her. Later they were made to accept her despite her condition.

Ms. Teng's elderly mother has only two children. Her daughter, Teng Derong, suffered brutal persecution in Shandong Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. Her son, Teng Defang, was imprisoned in Shandong Province Men's Forced Labor Camp. Both her son and daughter were serving time in forced labor at around the same time. They were both subjected to inhuman persecution. Their mother could not sleep at nights, causing her health to deteriorate.

Teng Derong's younger brother, Mr. Teng Defang, was a staff member at Mengyin County Retired Cadre's Bureau. In 2000, Teng Defang had to leave home to avoid persecution. In September 2002, he was arrested in Linyi. At Mengyin and Linyi Detention Center he was beaten almost every day. He had blood in his urine from the beatings. For three months, he could not get out of bed, and for six months he could not straighten his back, and had to walk with others' help. Now he has been sentenced to 14 years and is in Shandong Province Men's Forced Labor Camp.

In May 2000, after Ms. Teng Derong left home to avoid persecution, her little daughter, Qiqi was taken care of by Ms. Teng's mother, who is in her 70s. The two depended on each other to live. Around the end of June 2001, when her father, Mr. Yang Zhenfang, was released, Qiqi went back to be with him. Yang Zhenfang was nearly 60 at the time. With his wife and brother-in-law being persecuted in prison, he had to be both father and mother to his young daughter. It is hard to imagine how difficult his life was.

Even so, the authorities still did not spare this incomplete family. Around September 17, 2006, Mengyin County Police and 610 Office personnel suddenly broke into Mr. Yang's home, raided it and arrested him. Now he is in a forced labor camp once again. There is nobody in the family to take care of his mother-in-law, now close to 80, and his little daughter, who is going to school in another region.

How the 202nd Squadron of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province Persecutes Falun Gong Practitioners

I was illegally arrested by local policemen during the time I was homeless in 2003. I was then transferred to the 202nd Squadron of the 2nd Group in Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp after they detained me in a detention center for one month. (The 202nd Squadron was later re-named the Special Control Squadron of Group 3.) During my two years in the labor camp, other practitioners and I suffered the following torture:

The 202nd Squadron was the center for detaining and torturing practitioners. Those primarily responsible were: Bian Shuqiang, Zhang Li, and Dong Guoxin. They utilized various methods to fiendishly torture us, such as repeatedly airing anti-Falun Gong propaganda and information slandering Master Li's programs, forcing us to view drawings slandering Master Li and Falun Gong, using sleep-deprivation, forcing us to squat for long periods of time, shocking us with electric batons, hitting us with sticks, barbarically force feeding us, and forcing us to overwork so as to damage our health.

Guards Bian Shuqiang and Dong Guoxin brutally tortured practitioner Mr. Zhang Zenglou, because he tore up a "criticism," which the guards had assigned to him previously. As a result, the guard beat him, knocking out one of his teeth, and causing three other teeth to become loose. Also, Mr. Zhang was forced to stay in the same room with prisoners for a long time and was forced to sit on a small plastic stool and face a wall from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.

In May and June of 2005, the practitioners came together to practice Falun Gong and resist the torture. But those ones who had been deceived by the propaganda reported them. Bian Shuqiang ordered the team leader of the 202nd Squadron to transfer other the prisoners so that they could close off, handcuff, and brutally torture the practitioners. Many practitioners had their buttocks beaten until they were black and blue. They had to sleep face down at night and couldn't sit in the daytime. Wang Jianhui, Lu Feng, Liu Yudong, and Wang Huajian were tortured most severely.

From then on, the guards tortured the practitioners more severely. Guard Zhang Li gave a speech every day slandering Falun Gong. He fabricated and forced practitioners to write "reformed" sharing reports, and forced them to answer questions. He forced practitioners to march for a long time and stand in a marching pose. Practitioner Guo Xin, over 60 years old, felt faint.

Practitioners Duan Qisheng and Yin Zhizhang, around 50-60 years old, were slapped, beaten with sticks, isolated, guarded, not allowed to speak, and subjected to brainwash by guard Bian Shuqiang, only because they voluntarily led others to practice Falun Gong. This assault on their minds and bodies caused them to become emaciated.

Practitioner Ms. Zhang Sanxing, 70 years old, was beaten and forced to sit on a plastic stool until she was released because she announced that she was canceling her previous agreement to sign the Four Guarantee Statements (similar to the Three Statements). When she was released, she was beaten from her dormitory to the main door because she resisted the torture.

Mr. Sun Yuqiang, over 60 years old, was tortured and his teeth were knocked out.

Bian Shuqiang beat Mr. Huang Wenjiang, who was over 50 years old. As a result of the beating, Mr. Huang's teeth were loosened, he could not chew his food, and he could hardly hear anything.

Practitioner Zhang Haituo and another practitioner (name unknown) refused to be "reformed" and persisted in their belief in Falun Gong. They were put in the same room as the prisoners and forced to sit on stools, facing a wall from 4 a.m. until 10 p.m. They were tortured in this way for as long as three years.

Practitioner Mr. Wang Shengbiao refused to cooperate. He suffered brainwashing and sleep deprivation and was forced to squat for over a 40-day period. He even suffered hallucinations. His leg became disabled. He was even not allowed to go to the washroom and had to use a bedpan. He ate and used a toilet in the same room. They made him live without any dignity.

When 610 Office personnel inspected the forced labor camp, they asked to interview practitioner Mr. Wang Jiangang. When they discovered that Mr. Wang still firmly believed in Falun Gong, guard Bian Shuqiang realized that his efforts to "reform" Mr. Wang had been unsuccessful. This made him angry and ashamed, so he tortured Mr. Wang even longer.

This article contains only a few of the details of the torture endured by the compassionate practitioners in the 202nd Squadron of Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp.

The Crimes Committed in the Women's Group of the 2nd Forced Labor Camp in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province

The former 7th Group (the group for women detainees) in Ping'antai Forced Labor Camp and the Women's Group in Anning District Forced Labor Camp in Lanzhou (known as the 2nd Labor Camp) were merged in November 2003 to become the Yuzhong Women's Forced Labor Camp of Gansu Province. It is one of the dark dens where female Falun Gong practitioners are detained and tortured in Gansu Province.

The former Ping'antai Florced Labor Camp is located in the Red Valley of Lanzhou on the top of a desolate, uninhabited mountain. The birds one can see here are black crows with red beaks. Every now and then, they make a tragic and shrill sound. The atmosphere is filled with suffocating terror.

Since the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ping'antai Forced Labor Camp has held a large number of practitioners and has always been overcrowded. The Second Labor Camp of Anning District began detaining practitioners on February 28, 2001. It held more than 100 practitioners around 2003. In order to force practitioners to give up their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" and to achieve their self-proclaimed 100 percent "reform rate," horrific crimes have been committed. They stop at nothing in torturing practitioners. The following is only a fraction of their crimes.

    I. Brainwashing Combined with Violent Torture and Indoctrination with Vicious Lies

The authorities of the labor camp spent a lot of time and effort brainwashing the instructors and drug-addict inmates before Falun Gong practitioners were sent to the labor camp. They repeatedly play movies and video programs slandering Master Li and Falun Gong. Practitioners were demonized as a group of irrational people who would commit suicide or murder.

After practitioners were sent to the labor camp, the drug-addict inmates looked at practitioners with fear in their eyes and always watched out to guard themselves against practitioners. Before they went to sleep at night, addict inmates would check practitioners' breathing to see if they had committed suicide. As time went by, some conscientious and rational people discovered that the TV reports were all vicious lies. They learned that Falun Gong practitioners strive to be good people by following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." However, although fully aware of the truth, those jailers whose consciences had died out continued to torture practitioners to gain petty benefits.

II. Torturing Practitioners with All Kinds of Abusive Methods

Ms. Wang Caihe is a practitioner from Taishui City in her 30s. In May 2001, she practiced the Falun Gong exercises at noon when detainees were forced to perform physical exercises. The police hung her up by handcuffing her to the upper berth of a bunk bed for several days and nights. Even so, they still felt that they had not punished her enough so they handcuffed her to heating pipes in such a way so that she could not crouch down or stand up. Her whole body was swollen. If she moved a little bit, the handcuffs became tighter and cut into her flesh. The pain at night was unbearable, and she cried all night. On the second day, several jailers came to undo the handcuffs and it took them a long time to get them off. The cuffs had cut into her wrists so deeply that the backs of her hands were covered in a kind of white fluid.

In winter of 2001, Ms. Wang Caihe helped to pass Master Li's articles to fellow practitioners in the labor camp. The jailers were so outraged that they pulled her arms behind her back and handcuffed her to the bed frame of the lower bunk of a bunk bed. She could not crouch or sit down. Due to the extreme pain, she knelt on one knee for some time and then changed position to kneel on the other knee. Her feet kept scraping the floor. She was wearing a pair of new cotton shoes which her family had sent to her only a few days before.

On the second day, the shoes were so damaged that they could not be easily identified as shoes with the cotton exposed everywhere. How many miles does one have to walk to wear out a pair of new cotton shoes? However, Ms. Wang's shoes were worn out in one night. It's hard to imagine what kind of excruciating pain she endured! When she "walked" back to her cell, she could barely drag her legs. When she passed fellow practitioners' cells, she tried very hard to give them a smile. It really broke our hearts!

She also had injuries on her arms. The guards forced her to carry rocks, which are very cold in the winter. When she could not lift the rocks they verbally abused her very harshly.

The labor camp illegally extended her detention. She was not released until several months after the end of her sentence.

In October 2001, the instruction group from Wuwei went to the labor camp. They tried to show off their "achievements" and asked a practitioner who was "reformed" under coercion to talk with the instruction group. Unexpectedly, this practitioner said, "Falun Dafa is great" in front of them. The authorities were very embarrassed and tortured all nine practitioners from Wuwei by "Hanging in the Air."

Ms. He Xiuying, a practitioner in her 30s, was one of the nine. After several days of "hanging in the air," she could not bear it and wrote a guarantee statement against her will. She later realized she shouldn't have done so and told the labor camp authorities she was determined to revoke the guarantee statement. Fan Yirong was irritated. She forced Ms. He Xiuying to go to the lily house (a house dedicated for processing lilies as food). The slaps to He's face could be heard even in the rooms next door. Fan slapped He Xiuying at least several dozen times. Afterwards, Ms. He was "Hung in the air" again and in the end became delirious.

Ms. Zhang Aiping is a practitioner from Tianshui City around 30. She was secretly tortured for a whole night with some cruel methods not yet known by others. She cried tragically the entire time. Later, she often had gastric bleeding and vomited mouthfuls of blood. She became extremely weak and had great difficulty walking.

Ms. Liu Wenyu was a practitioner from Tianshui City in her 50s. She was a former employee of the Department of Railway. She was very healthy and chubby with fair skin when she was sent to the labor camp. During her detention, she often suffered solitary confinement. On one occasion, the guards from Tianshui pretended to come visit her. After they had some watermelon, they wiped the peel back and forth on her face to humiliate her. After one year's torture, she was completely deformed. After she returned home, she did not recover and died of grief.

Ms. Zhan Fengci is a practitioner from Tianshui City in her 40s. When the authorities had a conference to slander Falun Gong, she and another practitioner, Ms. He Guiqin, shouted "Falun Dafa is great!" She was subjected to "hanging in the air." As a result of the torture, her legs and feet became very swollen. In summer, she wore a pair of thin pants, but they looked like thick cotton pants. She had heart problems, but they forced her to lie down on a bed for weeks. She was not allowed to get out of bed except to eat and use the restroom. Due to the torture, she could not walk. Her term was extended for three months. Because of her poor health, she is still bedridden at home.

Ms. He Guiqin was also subjected to "hanging up in the air" for shouting "Falun Dafa is great!" After being hung up, she was so sleepy late in the evening that she bumped into the bed frame. As a result, one side of her face was severely swollen, and her nose and mouth were distorted. Because she was firm in her belief, she was forced to perform labor during the day and stand in the evening for more than a month. Ms. He was so exhausted that she fell to the ground and broke her cheekbone and nose. On one occasion, Fan Yirong a guard, ordered two addict inmates to cover her head with a quilt, viciously pull her hair, and beat her. Ms. He was almost suffocated to death.

Ms. Li Yuying is a practitioner from Inner Mongolia who led a homeless existence to avoid persecution in Gansu Province. She was frequently beaten at the labor camp. Drug addict inmates ranging from 14 years old to over 50 surrounded her to beat and kick her. Although a couple of drug addicts could not bear to beat her, others cursed them and forced them to beat Ms. Li. With support from the guard, the inmates beat her fiercely without any concern for her life. After the beating, they gathered together and chatted and laughed with great excitement.

Ms. Fan Juncao is a practitioner from Qingyang. She is in her 50s and only 5 feet 4 inches. She was subjected to "hanging in the air" with her hands cuffed to an upper bunk. Shee cried and screamed tragically. It was a truly tragic scene.

III. Secretly Torturing Practitioners to Death

Ms. Cheng Guilan from the Beidao District, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, was over 60 years old and a senior engineer. One night in October 2002, she was sent to the No. 2 Forced Labor Camp in the Anning District, Lanzhou City of Gansu Province. Within 48 hours, she was secretly tortured to death by the guards in the forced labor camp.

In October 2002, on the second morning after Ms. Cheng was sent to the labor camp, people saw that she wore clean and tidy white clothes. She looked very young, even with her gray hair, and she was very energetic.

During lunchtime on the third day, people noticed that Ms. Cheng could not raise her rice bowl. He Li, the prisoner in charge if monitoring her, was feeding her. The female guard, Wang Yonghong, violently shouted, "He Li, is she your mother? You've never even cared for your mother as you care for her! Use your energy when taking drugs to torture her!" That night, people heard Ms. Cheng's painful cries, and later her voice became weaker and weaker. In the end, she could not make a sound. Later, a vehicle came, and Ms. Cheng's body was secretly taken away. She was never seen again.

Several days later, the drug addict prisoner Yu Guishuang was very nervous. She said, "I will be officially arrested. I'm unable to continue to live in this world. I've said the wrong thing."

In fact, Ms. Cheng was secretly tortured to death by the guards in the forced labor camp within just 48 hours. In order to cover up their crimes, the labor camp lied by saying that Ms. Cheng's life had been in danger when she was brought there. They asked Yu Guishuang to give false evidence. Unexpectedly, Yu Guishuang told the truth, and said, "When she was sent here, she was very healthy." Seeing their crimes exposed, the guards started to pressure her.

Ms. Cheng Guilan's body was sent back to Tianshui and cremated unjustly.

IV. Deprivation of Basic Human Rights

The living conditions at the labor camp are extremely dreadful. A room of 16 square meters normally accommodates 16 people. When the labor camp is overcrowded up to 22 people may be detained in the room. There is no hot water. When practitioners wash their hair or do laundry by hand in winter, the water they use is extremely cold. In addition, water is in short supply; there isn't enough water for them to even brush their teeth and wash their faces. All the inmates had lice.

On holidays, guards come to inspect the cell. They force all the practitioners to put their quilts and clothes on the floor and then tear them open to inspect them. Practitioners are stripped naked while they search for Master Li's articles.
