  • Ms. Zhu Dafeng Beaten to Death by the Police in Wuhan City

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Dafeng from Wuhan City, Hubei Province has four close family members working in the police system. She was brutally beaten on the way to the police department when she was illegally arrested from her home at the end of February 2006, and she died soon after. Her daughter tried to seek justice for her, but was threatened with dismissal from her job. Ms. Zhu Dafeng's body was cremated.

Ms. Zhu Dafeng, 60 years old. lived on Zhongnan Street, Wuchang District, Wuhan City. She was a retired teacher. Her husband works at the Hubei Province Police Department, her younger daughter and son-in-law work in police stations, and her older daughter works in a prison. Ms. Zhu Dafeng had been actively clarifying the truth to people with her personal savings by mailing letters, and other methods.

On March 5, 2003, two Falun Gong banners appeared on the 10th Building of the Hubei Province Police Department compound. On the same day, Ms. Zhu Dafeng and another practitioner (name unknown, an elderly lady) were arrested, detained for one month, and then forced to go through another month of brainwashing and torture.

At the end of February 2006, several Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials ransacked Ms. Zhu's home and confiscated several Falun Gong books. The next day (March 1, 2006), her husband called the Zhongnan Street Police Station to report her. Soon, a group of policemen arrived. They carried Ms. Zhu downstairs and threw her into the police vehicle. Ms. Zhu resisted the illegal arrest and was beaten unconscious in the vehicle. She was directly sent to the Armed Police Hospital for emergency rescue. Her body was totally covered with bruises from her lower back down to her thighs. Her blood pressure was abnormal, and she died after five days. Her body was cremated. Her younger daughter, who is a police officer, tried to seek justice over her mother's death, but was threatened with dismissal from her job.

Some people said that Ms. Zhu Dafeng was beaten to death in the police vehicle before reaching the hospital.

On December 21, 2001, former Hubei Province Police Department Deputy Head Zhao Zhifei (male) was found guilty in a United States District Court for crimes against humanity. The court session listed Zhao's crimes in the persecution of Falun Gong, which included killing and torture. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Peng Min from Wuhan City was also brutally beaten by policemen on January 9, 2001, resulting in part of his spine being crushed, and paralysis. He was transferred to Wuhan City Seventh Hospital under police custody, and died on April 6, 2001. His mother, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Yingxiu was also beaten to death on April 29, 2001. Policemen said that she "talked too much." Risking his life, Mr. Peng Min's brother, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Peng Liang asked overseas Falun Gong practitioners to sue Zhao Zhifei on his behalf.

Mr. Wu Dianhui Died from Tuberculosis Due to Abuse During Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Diahui was a young lecturer employed by the Changzhou City Normal College in Jiangsu Province. He was persecuted by being locked in a mental hospital, a tuberculosis hospital and a labor camp by his employer and city police. This severely damaged his health, and he died of tuberculosis on February 11, 2006.

Mr. Wu Dianhui, 34, earned his Master's Degree from the Shanghai Eastern China Normal University, and was employed by the Changzhou City Normal College in Jiangsu Province. On October 30, 1999, he was illegally arrested along with his wife when they were resting in Tiananmen Square, and were brutally beaten in the police vehicle. Upon returning to Changzhou City, they were locked in a brainwashing class for ten days. Mr. Wu was tortured by being forced to stand for three entire days by Cultural Security Officer Yao (gender unknown, in charge of the Campus Security of Colleges in Changzhou City) of the Changzhou City Police Department. Later, the Changzhou City Normal College forced the young couple to do physical labor instead of teaching, and took away their promised family housing.

In early April 2000, Mr. Wu Dianhui went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, and was detained in the Changzhou City Police Department. After he was released, his employer and personnel workers from the Changzhou City Higher Education Committee broke into his rental house (off campus), took the couple's personal belongings, and forced them to live in a family dorm on campus so they could be closely monitored. By the end of April 2000, Mr. Wu and his four-months pregnant wife had been tricked into being locked in the PLA #102 Mental Hospital. Even his pregnant wife was force-fed drugs and injected with medicine while tied to a bed. In late June 2000, Mr. Wu Dianhui was illegally arrested at a park gate. Officers from the city police department and his employer fabricated a story that he had tuberculosis, and locked him in a special tuberculosis hospital for one week.

On May 1, 2001, Mr. Wu Dianhui was secretly arrested on the street by local police. After more than ten days, his family received a forced labor sentencing statement, with a two year term. His son was only eight months old at the time. Mr. Wu's employer received an upper level order to strictly limit his wife's personal freedom, which forbade her to contact other Falun Gong practitioners and did not allow any people to visit her.

Mr. Wu Dianhui was locked in the Jiangsu Province Dafengfangqiang Forced Labor Camp, where he was tortured with electric baton shocks, deprived of sleep for over one week, beaten by prisoners, locked in the small cell (1), and brutally force-fed, among other abuse.

Wu Dianhui was released on January 1, 2003. Due to severe injury received in the forced labor camp, Mr. Wu did not recover from the tuberculosis he had contracted, and became thinner and thinner. He was hospitalized twice and died on February 11, 2006, leaving his wife, his five-year-old son, and his aged parents.

    Note:

    (1) Small Cell - The detainee is locked up alone in a very small cell. The guards handcuff the practitioner's arms behind his/her back in a fixed position, in which the practitioner can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell. During the night rats run around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

Practitioner Cheng Peiming Escapes Midway through Eight-Year Prison Sentence

In the early morning hours of March 3, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Cheng Peiming (illegally sentenced to 8 years in prison) escaped from the Longnan Hospital in Daqing after 17 days of a hunger strike, ending his unlawful detention of over four years. His escape caused an extreme panic in the Daqing Prison, which immediately reported the incident to its superiors and the 610 Office in Daqing City. Daqing Prison, Daqing City Police Department, the National Security Group and Armed Police then mobilized their forces, desperately trying to arrest Cheng Peiming, who had been on a hunger strike for 17 days.

In November 2004, Cheng Peiming was on the brink of death as a result of abuse and mistreatment from persecution, yet his feet were still shackled to the sickbed

Daqing Prison Deputy Director Wang Yingjie urged the prison's deputy administration section head Tian Xifeng to try to find any information about the escape through the underworld gangs, but was told coldly, "We've never had anything to do with Falun Gong. We cannot help you."

Many policemen, prison guards and armed police officers who still have a conscience carried out their tasks in a perfunctory manner.

On March 4, Daqing Police Department agents sent more than 20 policemen to Falun Gong practitioner Guan Zhaoqi's home. Mr. Guan is locked up in the Daqing Prison. His residence is at No. 1, Building 16, the Jingyuan Residential Area in the Ranghulu District. The police smashed the lock with a hammer and broke into his home. They beat Mr. Guan's son with electric batons and confiscated personal belongings, such as a computer and other items. At the same time, the police also broke down the doors and broke into other practitioners' homes in the Fangxiaolou Residential Area in Ranghulu, confiscating their computers. Guan Zhaoqi's wife Yu Guixiang decided to leave home to avoid further persecution.

In order to arrest Cheng Peiming, the lawless police set up checkpoints and searched for him everywhere, including all the hospitals, big or small, in the Daqing region. There are police at checkpoints on every outbound road from Daqing. All vehicles are stopped and checked 24 hours a day. The police also went to Cheng Peiming's hometown of Jixi City to search for him, and sent many police officers to Beijing to prevent him from entering the city.

The police also used underworld tactics to monitor and harass Mr. Cheng and Mr. Guan's family members, as well as other practitioners. For example, Daqing Prison officials sent a number of prison guards to lurk in the Fangxiaolou residential area and forced Cheng Peiming's younger sister to report to the prison every day. Guan Zhaoqi's son is tailed at all times. Daqing Prison officials tried to coerce Guan Zhaoqi to provide information on his wife Yu Guixiang's whereabouts, but were sternly refused. The police used secret agent tactics to monitor the telephone and cell phone calls made by Cheng and Guan's family members. Some citizens who had made work-related phone calls were unlawfully interrogated. The illegal home searches mentioned earlier were conducted following monitored phone calls.

Wanting desperately to arrest Cheng Peiming and to cover up their crimes, Daqing Police Department officials offered rewards of 30,000 yuan and 50,000 yuan for information leading to the practitioner's arrest. The "reward" notice did not dare to mention that Cheng Peiming is a Falun Gong practitioner who has been unlawfully persecuted. Instead, they slandered him by lying, saying that he was a "criminal" who had been sentenced to eight years in prison for obstructing the implementation of the law.

The 610 Office and National Security Group Cruelly Persecute Practitioners in Sheyang County, Jiangsu Province

Police officers from the 610 Office in Sheyang County of Jiangsu Province, the National Security Group, and the Xingqiao and Yangma Township Police Stations have committed serious crimes in following orders from the Jiang Zemin regime to persecute Falun Gong and its practitioners. They illegally ransacked practitioners' homes, burned their Falun Gong books, and implemented forced brainwashing sessions. They went to practitioners' homes to harass and terrorize them, illegally arrested practitioners and sent them to forced labor camps for detention, and illegally sentenced them to prison.

In early Spring of 2000, police officers from the Yangma Township Police Station went to practitioner Mr. Tang Xuebin's home to terrorize him because he insisted on practicing Falun Gong. They arrested him and detained him in the Sheyang Township Mental Hospital. (Initially they tried to send him to Yancheng Mental Hospital, but a doctor there wouldn't admit him and refused to issue a diagnostic certificate saying that he was ill.) At Sheyang Mental Hospital, he was subjected to electric shock treatments and was injected with drugs that damaged his nervous system. People from the mental hospital blackmailed Tang's family for nearly 2000 yuan as a "medication charge."

Over the past six years, police officers from the 610 Office and the National Security Group have arrested over 10 practitioners for clarifying the truth and exposing the persecution. They sent practitioners to forced labor camp and to jail. While they were detained, the practitioners were cruelly tortured. They were handcuffed and hung up, beaten, and deprived of sleep day and night. In the winter, practitioners were not allowed to wear clothes, and the National Security Group transferred "killers" (very cruel and violent people who cause pain but leave the body intact) in from the Criminal Police Force to specifically deal with practitioners.

In the fall of 2004, police officers took turns beating practitioners Ji Guowei and An Zixia, a couple from Wanlong Village, for nearly 100 hours in a padded room in the Xingqiao Township Police Station. After that, they sent Ji Guowei to Fangqiang Forced Labor Camp in Dafeng. At Sheyang County Forced Labor Camp, police guards Dong and Du handcuffed practitioners together. The practitioners had to bend at their waists in order to move, so they couldn't rest or use the bathroom. The police either beat the practitioners or instigated inmates to do it. They shoved practitioners who were on hunger strike to the ground and pressed them down onto the concrete. They covered practitioners' mouths and noses with dirty rags until the practitioners almost lost consciousness. The inmates forced open the practitioners' jaws with screwdrivers and wrenches in order to force-feed them with diluted congee. This kind of cruel torture happens every day.

Practitioner Mr. Tang Xuebin suffered from this kind of torture for 20 consecutive days, and then he was sentenced to 10 years. After practitioner Mr. Li Rongsheng was detained for 11 months at Sheyang County Detention Center, his legs became numb and he couldn't walk or stand normally. Even so, he was illegally sentenced to nine years of imprisonment after that. His wife couldn't take the pressure anymore and married someone else. Even with her relatives' help, his daughter almost couldn't afford to go to school. There are a lot of cases of families being ruined this way in Sheyang Town. Even in 2005, police officers from the 610 Office in Sheyang County arrested four practitioners and sent them to the forced labor camp. Among them, Bai Ruixia and Fei Daiyu from Xingqiao Town are already over 60 years old.

The disclosures in this article are only the tip of the iceberg of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the Sheyang County 610 Office and police officers.

Partial list of police officers from the 610 Office in Sheyang County:

Deputy Chief of the Police Bureau Chen. Chen has also been the head of the 610 Office for several years.

Zhu Changsong, former Head of the Political Security Division, persecutes Falun Gong practitioners without hesitation.

Xu Huilai, former leader of the National Security Group, is the main person responsible for persecuting practitioners.

Police officer Xu, former "killer" at the Criminal Police Team, treats detained practitioners with great cruelty.

Police officers from Xingqiao Town Police Station treat practitioners with brutality.

Account of the Brutal Persecution I Suffered at the Hands of Officials at the Jilin Custodial Station

My name is Li Cuiling. I went to visit Ms. Ming Yanbo at about 3 p.m. on May 26, 2005. She is a Falun Gong practitioner. A plainclothes police officer opened the door. I saw three plainclothes policemen at her home. They emptied the suitcases, cabinets, and beds and scattered the stuff all over the floor. The room was a mess. I turned and was about to leave. An officer caught me, dragged me into the house and pinned me down on the floor. They asked me, "Are you practicing Falun Gong?" I ignored them. Officer Zhao Rui hit my head hard. It hurt so much that I felt as if my head was going to explode. Teacher's photos were on the wall. In order to verify that I was a practitioner, the police started to destroy Teacher's photos. I immediately stopped them and told them, "Do not ever do that. It is not good for you." They then took me to the Longhua Police Substation.

That night they sent Ms. Ming Yanbo and me one at a time to the National Security Group of  Longtan District Police Department. The police interrogated us, made records, and forced me to sign them. I thought that I was a good person who tried to improve myself and to be good and that I shouldn't be treated like a prisoner. I shouldn't acknowledge their behavior. So I tore up the records. Policeman Liu Xichun pushed me down onto the sofa. I then started to shout, "Falun Dafa is good!" and clarified the truth to them. They locked me up in the room with two policemen monitoring me for the whole night. Early the next morning when I saw the passersby in the street, I shouted to them, "Falun Dafa is good!" and "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is good!" and tried to clarify the truth to them. Liu Xichun then rushed into the room and slapped my face. Several policemen handcuffed me.

The next morning they sent Ms. Ming and me to the Jilin Custodial Station again. Because of the persecution, I was very weak. My whole body twitched violently. The officials at the Custodial Station refused to accept me, but the police put me in there anyway. They turned their backs and left.

At the Custodial Station I didn't cooperate. During the three days I was illegally detained there, I didn't eat or drink. I adopted the hunger strike method to show my protest and to show that I didn't acknowledge the evil. They force-fed me. Force-feeding is a very cruel torture method. They use this torture method to try to force Falun Gong practitioners to give in and give up their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.

The first time the police force fed me was at the Custodial Station. Several male policemen and the prisoners' doctor pinned me down on the floor. Some pressed down on my head with their hands, some stepped on my arms and legs with their feet, and some prisoners pressed down on my chest. I struggled very hard. The prison doctor, who wore leather shoes, kicked my face. They forced the plastic tube into my nose and forced it down into my stomach. They poured a thick saline water and corn flour solution down the tube. I felt nauseous and suffocated, and I vomited. I vomited all the food out. The food sprayed all over my head and my body. After the force feeding I questioned them, "Is this what you call 'healing the wounded and rescuing the dying?'" The doctor said, "You don't eat! You get such treatment if you don't eat." I told him, "I didn't commit any crimes and shouldn't be here." But they didn't listen to any of my words. They force-fed me like this twice a day.

At the Custodial Station I clarified the truth to everyone I came across, be it a policeman or prisoner. The police were very angry. They put heavy torture instruments on me and accelerated the persecution.

On the tenth day of my hunger strike, I was sent to the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun. On the way I thought to myself that wherever I went, I would clarify the truth about Falun Gong.

Upon arriving at the labor camp, I kept shouting, "Falun Dafa is good" and solemnly told them, "I come here again to clarify the truth about Falun Gong." As a result, the officials in the labor camp refused to accept me, saying that my health was not good enough.

On the way to Jilin City, police officer Liu Xichun threatened me and said, "I will punish you and kill you." In the afternoon on July 6 at the Longhua Police Substation in Jilin City, officer Zhao Rui dragged me to a room and said, "I don't believe in any karmic retribution." In a frenzy, he slapped me in the head for a long time. My head and face swelled up, and my mouth bled. That night, under Teacher's merciful protection, I managed to walk out of the labor camp.

Three Practitioners in Hebei, Beijing, and Jilin Provinces Passed Away as a Result of the Persecution

Ms. Guo Fengxia, 36 years old, lived in Wang'anfang Village, Town of Yaojiafang, Gaoxin Square, Zhangjiakou City in Hebei Province. She suffered from diseases before practicing Falun Gong. After she began practicing Falun Gong, the illnesses vanished. She went to Nanxinqu to distribute truth-clarifying materials in April 2003. She was illegally arrested and sent to Shalingzi Police Station, and then to the Xuanhua Detention Center. After that she was sentenced to a year in Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp of Baoding City. During this persecution, her family members were also under severe duress and lived in fear. They tried to rescue her but were swindled out of 30,000 yuan by the CCP officers. The CCP officers didn't release Ms. Guo until her one-year forced labor camp sentence was over. Ms. Guo said it was very evil in the forced labor camp. For instance, police guards would throw poisonous snakes on female practitioners. Ms. Guo was harassed and threatened by the local police again in December 2005. The authorities were always harassing and torturing her. Her family members couldn't endure the tremendous pressure, so they did not allow her to study the principles of Falun Gong, do the exercises or clarify the truth. If Ms. Guo went out for a while, her family members would go find her immediately. Ms. Guo suffered greatly in both body and mind. Over a long period of time, Ms. Guo suffered persecution and harassment. As a result, she passed away on February 19, 2006.

Ms. Liu Yuqin, 53, lived in Xiaotang Village, Chengguan Country, Town of Miyun in Beijing City. She began to practice Falun Gong with her husband in 1997. Ms. Li was a community manager in her village. She was very kind and unselfish, and the local citizens deemed her a good community manager. But she was later dismissed because she practiced Falun Gong. Wang Yujing, the head of Town of Miyun District Political and Legal Committee, sentenced Ms Liu and her husband to two years of forced labor. Ms. Liu was refused by the Assignment Department after she had a medical checkup revealing an issue with her thorax. Ms. Liu was arrested again in the middle of June 2003. The Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp diagnosed her with breast cancer. Against her will she was given injections of unknown substances as "treatment." They caused Ms. Liu extreme pain. She became extremely weak and unable to take care of herself. Nevertheless, the authorities still tried to force her to write a guarantee statement. After Ms. Liu went home, they continued to harass and threaten her. They forbade her from practicing Falun Gong or contacting Falun Gong practitioners and harassed her by phone every week. Under such severe persecution, Ms. Liu became as thin as a skeleton. Her thigh muscle became disjointed from the bone, and she was a tragic sight to see.

Ms. Liu said to someone who came to question her that she did not need that guarantee statement and needed nothing but Falun Gong. Ms. Liu passed away in October 2004.

Mr. Bi Yaoming, 79 years old, was a Yangluduan employee in the Town of Nong'an, Jilin Province. He began practicing Falun Gong in June 1997. After he started the practice, all of his illnesses disappeared and he became very healthy. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice in 2000. He was arrested and taken back to a local detention center for two days. After he was released, officers from his company continually harassed him. They did not allow him to practice Falun Gong. They did not pay his wages, either. This persecution resulted in a relapse of his old illness. He passed away in November 2000.
