  • More on Kidnapping of Cao Dong after His Meeting with European Parliament Vice-President Edward McMillan-Scott

Cao Dong and His Wife Yang Xiaojing
At around 6:00 on the evening of May 26, 2006, five men and one woman from the National Security Bureau, along with another woman from the local residential committee, opened the door of Mr. Cao Dong's home (Rm. 704, Unit 3, Zhuzi Hutong, Zhaojialou, Beijing) with a master key. Without showing any search warrant, they ordered practitioner Gao Fengqiang, who at that time was staying in Cao Dong's home, to squat in a corner, and then began ransacking the home. They confiscated some Falun Gong books, a hard drive, an MP3 player, some identification cards, and photos. They also body searched Gao Fengqiang and confiscated everything he had with him.

During the search, a man kept interrogating Gao Fengqiang and defaming Falun Gong. About two hours later, they took Gao Fengqiang with them and left. When they stepped out of the gate of the building, they forced Gao to turn around. In the police van, they held Gao's head down and took away his glasses. They told Gao to close his eyes so that he wouldn't know where they were taking him. After about one hour they arrived at a secret base with military police standing guard. One could hear what sounded like military training in the background.

Gao Fengqiang was taken to a small interrogation room containing three beds and a bathroom. They cuffed Gao's hands to the chair. Eight people were present to interrogate him. Five other people took turns monitoring him around the clock. During the interrogation, they also beat and force-fed him. After five days of interrogation, Gao was sent to Gansu Province, his place of origin. They sent people to monitor him, and extorted 3,000 yuan from his family. Gao has left his home to avoid further harassment.

Cao Dong, 36, graduated from Beijing Foreign Language University with a major in French. He once was a tour guide and currently works as a translator. His wife, Yang Xiaojing, is a computer engineer at Beijing Electricity Institute. For her firm belief in Falun Gong, she was once detained and sent to a labor camp. The couple has been married for years, but they were only able to stay together for a mere several weeks due to the persecution.

On May 21, Cao Dong met with Edward McMillan-Scott, Vice-President of the European Parliament, who was in China to investigate first hand the human rights situation there. Cao Dong disappeared shortly after the meeting. He was arrested by the authorities and his whereabouts remain unknown.

Mr. Shao Mingzhu Dies Due to Torture at Forced Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Shao Mingzhu lived in Beibo Village in Liangcheng Township, Weishan County, Jining City, Shandong Province. He was sent to one year of forced labor in 2002 because he passed out truth clarifying materials. He was sent to the Shandong Province First Men's Labor Camp located in Wangcun, Zibo City. In 2004, he was sentenced to another two years of forced labor and a one month extension. During this term, he was so brutally tortured that he became very emaciated, and he could not take care of his daily needs. Finally, his lungs became severely infected, and his family picked him up in mid March 2006.

His family sent him to the Jining City People's Hospital for emergency treatment, and he survived two more months with oxygen and intravenous injections. His daily medical expenses were between five and nine hundred yuan. He died on May 30, 2006.

Imprisoned Falun Gong Practitioner Liang Zhenxing, Who was Involved in TV Truth-broadcasting, Is in Critical Condition from Persecution

It was just learned that practitioner Liang Zhenxing, who was involved the "March 5, 2002" TV truth broadcasting incident is in critical condition from persecution in the Siping Prison, Jilin Province.

Liang Zhenxing in prison in March 2002

Mr. Liang Zhenxing has so far been in the Siping Prison since his transfer from the Tiebei Prison of Changchun City in late 2005. The prison officials have repeatedly rejected family visits without providing any reasons. On May 12 or 13, when his family members went again to the prison to visit him, the prison officials finally permitted them to see him briefly. Liang Zhenxing had by then been on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. According to prison officials, the hunger strike had been going on for five or six days. The next day Liang Zhenxing was sent to a hospital in Siping City. With strong requests from Liang's family members, they were once again permitted to see him. About seven police agents were present during the visit. The family members asked to bail him out for medical treatment but their request was refused, with no explanation given.

Recently, after negotiations with prison officials, these persecutors agreed for some of Liang's family members, except his wife and daughter, to come "help and educate" him. They also said Liang's life was in danger. More investigations are needed.

Liang Zhenxing was sentenced to 19 years in prison because of the "March 5, 2002" TV truth-broadcasting incident in Changchun. He has already been detained for four years. Before Liang Zhenxing was illegally sentenced to prison in September 2002, the persecutors incarcerated him in the Tiebei Detention Center. While he was held there, the officials subjected him to interrogations every two to three days. They always blindfolded him before taking him out for interrogation. Each time he returned, he was covered with wounds. The interrogation place is thought to be located at Jingyuetan, Changchun City. There is a secret room for inquisition under torture. Liang Zhenxing suffered from all kinds of tortures in that room.

After Liang Zhenxing was sentenced to prison he was transferred to several prisons, from the Jilin Prison to the Tiebei Prison, then to the Siping City's Shiling Prison. Information about his suffering in these prisons is emerging. Since his transfer to the Siping Prison his contact with the outside world was cut off. Whoever tried to talk to him or even wanted to have a look at him would suffer a brutal beating. They tormented him mentally in very cruel ways.

Exposing Shuguang Prison in Jiuquan City, Gansu Province

Jiuquan Prison is located in the desert and was initially built in October, 1951. It was originally named Jiuquan Electrical Machinery Plant to cover up that it was a prison. It has 469 guards and current staff members, plus 330 retired staff members. Its main electrical machinery plant occupies three acres. The prison is comprised of thirteen buildings. Two affiliated farms, the Chengjiao Farm and the Qingshui Farm, occupy 1,650 acres. A large number of "political prisoners" and "right wingers" sentenced to long prison terms were detained here in the 1960s. The prison is now used to detain Falun Gong practitioners.

Leading from the dining room are the stairs to the basement, where the real underground meeting hall for prisoners is located

Before 2006, the Jiuquan Electrical Machinery Plant detained over 20 Falun Gong practitioners from Jiuquan City. For some time in 2003, police detained Falun Gong practitioners together in the same squadron to brainwash them. Later, because practitioners went on hunger strikes to resist the persecution, the police then separated the practitioners and sent them to different prison wards.

Around the Chinese New Year (January 29) in 2006, male Falun Gong practitioners from Gansu Province who had been sentenced to prison terms were transferred to the Jiuquan Electrical Machinery Plant, and torture methods used on practitioners became more brutal. Instead of forcing Falun Gong practitioners to do hard labor, beating them and verbally abusing them, the prison deprived them of sleep. Detained practitioners could not tell their families, who had come to visit, what was happening to them because police guards monitored their conversations.

Mr. Zuo Zhigang's Mother Sought Justice for Five Years to No Avail - Now Suffers Around-the-Clock Police Harassment

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).]

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zuo Zhigang from Shijiazhuang City was arrested from his work place on May 30, 2001, the day before his wedding. Officers from the Qiaoxi Police Department and from the Weiming Street Police Station carried out the arrest. Mr. Zuo was beaten to death a day later.

For the past five years, Zuo Zhigang's mother went to all levels of government in the province and city to seek justice. So far, no official at any level has stepped forward to take responsibility. Mr. Zuo Zhigang's murderers are still at large, while the police constantly harass Zuo Zhigang's mother.

At around 5:00 a.m. on May 21, 2006, Zuo Zhigang's mother went downstairs and was stopped by police officers waiting there. They forced her to return home. As of May 23, a police car has been parked outside her home around the clock, and the police follow her whenever she leaves home.

Open Letter: Please Help Rescue My Wife Wang Xiaoyan

My name is Zhang Zhentong and I practice Falun Gong. In September 2000, I came to Germany to avoid the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) brutal persecution against Falun Gong practitioners. Right now I am studying at the University of Leipzig. Because the inhumanity of the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is a well-known fact, here I sincerely appeal the international community to help rescue my wife Wang Xiaoyan, whom police arrested on May 27, 2006, in Dalian City, because she practices Falun Gong.

    Wang Xiaoyan and their daughter

On the morning of May 27, 2006, officers from the Chunhai Police Department in Dalian City arrested my wife as she left home for work. Officers had been waiting outside the building. At around 10:00 a.m., the police broke into my wife's residence and took a computer, two printers, a hard drive, a cell phone, more than ten Falun Gong books, 21 cassettes and Falun Gong truth clarification materials my wife had made, as well as some printing materials.

The next day my father went to the Chunhai Police Department and inquired about my wife. The police showed him a detention document verifying my wife had been sent to the Yaojia Detention Center at 7:00 p.m. on May 27. When I phoned the Chunhai Police Department the person answering the phone lied and said, "wrong number" during several calls. The police have refused to permit family members to meet with my wife. After further telephone inquiries I learned that Sun Gang is the police officer in charge of this case, and the Chunhai Police Department is still assigned to interrogate my wife, Wang Xiaoyan.

Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, similar things have happened to my wife more than once. In May 2000 she went to the Bureau of Letters of Calls in Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was not received but instead arrested by Dalian police agents waiting outside the bureau and subsequently taken back to Dalian City and held at a drug rehabilitation center. The Dalian City 610 Office set up a "Coercive Reform Class" to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their beliefs. The guards made her watch daily TV propaganda videos that defame Falun Gong. One week later the police extorted 3,500 yuan from my family calling it a "fine" before sending my wife back to the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City where she was held for fifteen days and then released.

Six months later, in late 2000, I suddenly lost touch with my wife three months after I arrived in Germany. With help from my friends in China I made numerous attempts and eventually obtained accurate information that my wife was arrested and taken to the Yaojia Detention Center for distributing fliers that explain the facts about Falun Gong. In February 2001 she was sent to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, where she was subjected to brainwashing and was forced to listen to daily propaganda that slanders Falun Gong. Sometimes she was deprived of sleep for days. The guards also directed the inmates to beat her.

Our two-year-old daughter was separated from her mother. In October 2001 my wife regained her freedom under medical parole. When our daughter again saw her mother after one year of separation she called out, "Mom" without any hesitation, although she felt a little estranged. It's not difficult to imagine how my wife felt at that moment.

After she left the labor camp she lived away from home to avoid harassment and persecution from the police. The police withheld her passport so she could not come to Germany to live with me.

My parents were very concerned that I would be persecuted should I ever return to China, because many of my friends in China who are Falun Gong practitioners are currently experiencing persecution, or have in the been persecuted in the past. They were worried the same thing would happen to me if I went back to China, so they firmly opposed my return, although they miss me very much.

I left China nearly six years ago, and I have never been able to return to see my family because of the CCP's fiendish persecution. My heart aches when I see [pictures of] my parents, who are getting older by the day, and of my daughter who is growing bigger by the day, via Internet chat and photos.

In order to make Falun Gong practitioners give up their beliefs, the CCP violates the practitioners' dignity through savage tortures and forces them to betray their conscience. This is the essence of the persecution and is also the reason why this persecution is so extraordinarily cruel. It has so far been confirmed that 2,898 Falun Gong practitioners have died from persecution and countless other practitioners are still illegally detained and savagely tortured on a daily basis. Each day, innocent and kind Falun Gong practitioners are deprived of their precious freedom to live.

Recently, numerous witnesses have revealed evidence that shows the CCP having been involved in harvesting the organs of living Falun Gong practitioners at dozens of secret concentration camps and forced labor camps throughout China. The CCP sells these organs and cremates the bodies to destroy the evidence. After these atrocities came to light, the number of organ transplant surgeries throughout China increased drastically, which raises suspicion regarding the source of these human organs. Is the CCP speeding up the destruction of evidence? Because of everything that has surfaced, I cannot help but worry about my wife's safety, and her current whereabouts are unknown. I have reason to believe that her life is in constant danger.

Hereby I want to strongly appeal to and urge foreign governments, organizations, civil groups and all kind people to help my wife regain her freedom and pay attention to and support millions of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted in China. I believe that good will defeat evil, and this vicious persecution will end with the support of all kind people around the world.

Calling Attention to Falun Gong Practitioners Sentenced to Prison Terms by the Dadong District Court, Shenyang City

The Dadong District Court in Shenyang City has sentenced several Falun Gong practitioners to prison over the past few years. In 2004 Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Hong was sentenced to four years in prison, and Mr. Zhao Zhong received a five year sentence. Both are imprisoned at the Dongling Prison, Shenyang City. In the same year, Mr. Liu Huayu was sentenced to four years in prison and is currently imprisoned at the Wafangdian Prison, Dalian City.

In 2005 Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Jinping was sentenced to eight years in prison, and Ms. Bai Min received a four year sentence. Both practitioners are detained at the Liaoning Women’s Prison. Mr. Guan Zhiyong was sentenced to one year in prison, and Mr. Ma Huimin five years.

In 2006 Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Yongming was sentenced to three years in prison.

Two Practitioners from Hubei and Heilongjiang Provinces Die From Persecution

Ms. Liu Kexi, in her 50s, from Lucheng Township, Yidu City, Hubei Province, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Her son, Deng Yong, who is in his 30s, also practices Falun Gong. In May 2004, agents from the National Security Group of Yidu City stormed into Deng Yong’s home, arrested him, and searched for Falun Gong materials. Shortly after, they also searched the home of his mother, Liu Kexi. Then the National Security Group agents, led by Su Xiaoping, conspired with the local police department, the Procuratorate office, and the court of Yidu City to put Deng Yong on trial. The court sentenced him to three to four years of imprisonment. When she heard her son sentenced at the courthouse, Ms. Liu Kexi fainted and died three days later.

Ms. Yang Lihua, 58, is a retiree who had been a teacher at the Dalianhe Township Middle School, Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Her severe heart condition and rheumatism disappeared soon afterwards. In February 2000, she was practicing the Falun Gong exercises in a public square and was arrested, detained for three days, and fined 300 yuan. During the spring of 2002, when she was distributing truth clarification materials near her son's home in Harbin City, she was arrested and sent to a detention center. She managed to escape the detention center later. However, she was forced into homelessness for over a year.

In 2003, she went back to the school where she had worked. Members of the county’s 610 Office and the local Education Commission forced her to write the three statements and withheld wages of 8000 yuan that was owed to her. The school authorities claimed that the money had been used for staff to look for her, however school officials did not provide any receipts, and the local police officers continued to harass her at home. She was under tremendous stress. She died on December 20, 2005.
