  • Ms. Yu Fuxiang Died Tragically Under Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Fuxiang, 55, had residency in Baota Middle School, Huangzhou City, Hubei Province . Her former husband is the school's employee. Her residency was still with the school even after the divorce. Not only was her family life very tragic, but also she suffered much from her diabetes and many other sicknesses . Only after practicing Falun Gong was her life happy and free from illness. Ms. Yu Fuxiang was cruelly tortured in the persecution until she died very tragically.

Arrested When Exercising in the Park

One morning in December 1999, Ms. Yu Fuxiang was doing Falun Gong exercises in Baota Park when she was illegally arrested and detained for 15 days in Huangzhou City Second Detention Center. Police extorted 450 yuan from her, which was a lot of money based on her living situation at the time.

Detained Again When Appealing in Beijing

In March 2000, Ms. Yu Fuxiang was longing to have a safe environment in which to practice, and knew she would be arrested once she exercised outside, so she decided to go to Beijing to appeal and tell the government officials about how practitioners close to her had greatly improved their mental and physical health through practicing Falun Gong. She dearly hoped that the government would allow practitioners to practice, but before she even stepped into the National Appeals Office, she was arrested. Authorities escorted her back to Huangzhou City and detained her for 40 days in the Huangzhou City First Detention Center.

Sent to Forced Labor for Appealing

In June 2000, she was arrested again by police in Beijing City for exercising her citizen's right to appeal. She was brutally beaten and detained in Changping County Detention Center. During those days she was deprived of her right to sleep and repeatedly beaten. Her flesh was broken open, and her eyes were covered with bruises to the point where she could not open her eyes for a long time. After two weeks she was sent back to Huangzhou City First Detention Center, as her bruises were still too terrible to be seen. After being illegally detained for two months, she was sentenced to one year of forced labor to be served at Shizishan Labor Camp. The guards did not want to accept her because she suffered from malnutrition and was very weak, but knowing that she had no money to be bailed out on medical parole, they accepted her.

The labor in Shizishan was too heavy for the elderly and weak Ms. Yu Fuxiang to finish. She was constantly beaten by drug addict prisoners, and was only allowed to sleep two to three hours daily. She was later transferred to Shayang Labor Camp. No longer able to endure the unbearable tortures, Ms. Yu Fuxiang signed a statement giving up her belief against her will. She had no financial resources after being released home, and had to shine shoes to survive.

Extended Detention Due to Speaking the Truth

After writing the guarantee letter to stop practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Yu Fuxiang clearly felt her health deteriorate day by day, and all of her old illnesses came back. Since she had no money, in order to regain health she again started practicing Falun Gong. The miracle of Falun Gong reappeared and all of her sicknesses disappeared again. She knew she had made false statements against Falun Gong at the Shayang Labor Camp, and decided to clarify the truth to the government again. At the beginning of July 2001 Ms. Yu went to Beijing again. She was cruelly tortured and sent back to Huangzhou City. She was detained eight months in Huangzhou City First Detention Center, and then sentenced to forced labor. Due to her poor physical condition, the camp refused to accept her. She could not practice or eat an adequate amount, so the guards released her in fear of that she might die. Although she was released, the policemen would still arrest and detain her constantly.

Cruelly Beaten for Her Belief in Truth-Compassion- Forbearance

On December 28, 2002, officials from Huangzhou District Education Bureau and Baota Middle School abducted Ms. Yu Fuxiang when she was busy shining people's shoes and sent her to be brainwashed. Because she refused to betray her faith, she was detained for one month and often beaten brutally.

    Such a Scoundrel Policeman

Around June 2003, one policeman asked Ms. Yu Fuxiang to shine his shoes in the Bayi neighborhood. While shining his shoes, she told him how wonderful she felt because she practiced Falun Gong. The policeman didn't want to pay the one yuan fee and arrested her after his shoes were shined and had her detained for 15 days in the Huangzhou City Second Detention Center.

Detained Again for Helping Stop a Fight

In July 2003, Ms. Yu was shining shoes in front of Baota Middle School. A group of students were fighting. Ms. Yu Fuxiang tried to help stop the fight but police came and arrested her again, and detained her another 15 days in Huangzhou City Second Detention Center.

Large Scale Arrest of Falun Gong Practitioners

Around March 14, 2004, State Security Agents were arresting Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale. One friend told her a stranger came to investigate her situation with bad intentions, and persuaded her to hide out for a while. All the past detention experiences made her very afraid of being arrested again. She hid out for one to two days, rented a different room, and told her new landlord to not tell anyone about her new rental place. She paid the agent with the only 30 yuan that she had, and hoped to find a nanny job. In order to survive, she later had to shine shoes, but had to constantly change places to avoid being arrested.

The Huge Pressure Under the Persecution

On May 6, 2004, Ms. Yu Fuxiang heard policemen were trying to arrest 40 more Falun Gong practitioners to send to Hubeo Province Brainwashing Class or Shayang Labor Camp. Ms. Yu was very scared of being arrested, and she secured her door very tightly after returning to her home.

    Unthinkable Thing Happened

Several days later, some people who cared about her had been looking all over the place for her, and thought she had been arrested by policemen again. (The fact that she had been arrested easily before gave people the impression that no one thought she would be locked inside the house). After policemen absolutely denied that they had arrested her, several of her friends broke open her door on the evening of May 13, 2004. Her doors and windows were all very firmly blocked. Even her wash stand was used to block her door. After hearing some loud noises, they saw her dying in the room. There was no money or food, only an empty stove stood in the room. Nobody knows how she spent those six to seven days.

Ms. Yu Fuxiang in the Hospital

On May 14, 2004, many Falun Gong practitioners went to visit Ms. Yu in the hospital, but could not find her. A nurse said, "Yu Fuxiang left after she recovered." We do not know how policemen ordered the hospital employees to cooperate with them. Witnesses later revealed Ms. Yu Fuxiang was in the cancer ward, and had blood covering her face and body.

Ms. Yu Fuxiang Was Quickly Cremated

On the morning of May 15, 2004, some Falun Gong practitioners continued looking for her in the hospital. They found many police vehicles parked at the hospital. The Baota Middle School Principal Song Xinyi (male) was there as well. None of the practitioners ever found her, or heard any information about her. In the afternoon they heard that she has been cremated, and died at around 4 a.m. on May 15, 2004.

The Huangzhou District Education Bureau and the Baota Middle School are Also Responsible

Ms. Yu Fuxiang had no resources. She earned very little by shining shoes, and she could only eat one or two meals per day. Her rent had been paid by fellow practitioners or her relatives. Her residential registered unit - Huangzhou District Education Bureau and Baota Middle School, refused to issue welfare to her just because she practiced Falun Gong. Officials Zhu Chengjie (male) and Yin Nantian (male) from Huangzhou District Education Bureau, and Baota Middle School Principal Song Xinyi (male), actively promoted having Ms. Yu sent to brainwashing centers.

Practitioners Cruelly Tortured in Wuling Prison

More than a thousand Falun Gong practitioners have been detained in Wuling Prison in Changde City, Hunan Province, since 2003. They have all labored like slaves and been tortured. There are still over 10 practitioners detained there.

Wuling Prison used to be called Wanjinzhang Farm. It is located in Baiheshan Township in the northern suburbs of Changde City. The prison managed by the Changde City Bureau of Justice. There is an in-house Procuratorate with two male employees: Liu Tiejun and Zhang Bin.

Practitioners still detained in the prison include Mr. Luo Hongwei, Mr. Zhou Qingfeng, Mr. Yan Yong, Mr. Liu Chunquan, Mr. Hu Biyou, Mr. Zhou Zhigao, Mr. Hu Chougai, Mr. Gu Zhihui, Mr. Zhou Zixian, Mr. Xiao Yuanxue, Mr. Zhang Peng, and . Liu Pu.

Guards force the practitioners to labor more than 12 hours a day. They curse and beat them, and torture is a daily routine. They often use truncheons, electric batons, wooden sticks, or bamboo sticks to beat practitioners, breaking open their skin and flesh and even injuring bones and joints. Another torture is to suspend them by handcuffs. Practitioners are hung either with both of their hands together, or one hand in a higher position and the other hand in a lower position, so that the practitioner cannot straighten up. Both feet are suspended or only the tips of the toes are allowed to touch the floor, so that wrists bear the weight of the entire body. After 10 minutes, the handcuffs cut deeply into the wrists, breaking the flesh and causing bleeding. The hands swell, bruise, and numb, and often remain that way even for several months.

Practitioners are often beaten. On January 1, 2006, guard Liu Yongwen (male) in the Fifth Ward slapped practitioner Mr. Zhang Peng's face more than 10 times in front of more than 100 detainees at the cell gate. On January 26, 2006, Guard Hu Wei beat practitioner Mr. Zhou Zixian, who went on hunger strike to protest such torture. On February 11, 2006, guard Xie Ying encouraged other prison inmates to hang up Mr. Gu Zhihui by his handcuffs on the metal gate of the Strict Monitoring Ward, then open and close the gate for more over 10 minutes. Both of Mr. Gu's hands swelled, and his body was covered with bruises. On May 1, 2006, several guards beat Mr. Zhou Zixian, injured him, and made him fall onto the floor of the ward office.

Torturing practitioners like this is a daily routine in Wuling Prison.

The Photos of the 2nd Women's Station of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp

The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province, also officially named as, "Masanjia Thought Education School", has three stations. The First Women's Station, the Second Women's Station and a station for men. The Second Women's Station is specifically used to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The First Women's Station imprisoned mostly women, including a few Falun Gong practitioners (who are transferred from the Second Women's Station).

    Photo One

Photo One: Layout of the Second Women's Station of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The "main building" is used to specifically persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Apart from the "Main building", the "Multi-function building" is also used to persecute practitioners. The "Solitary Confinement building" is located to the north of the "Multi-function building." There are nine rooms in total and they vary in size. In this building, there is various torturing equipment that is used to persecute practitioners.

Photo Two: Layout of the detention cells in the Second Women's Station. There are ten bunks in each cell, for a total of twenty beds. In the 1st Group, the windows of each cell are sealed by the police with masking tape, leaving only one small hole so the police can peek in from the outside. On the back walls of the cell, there is a clock-shaped device. It looks like an electronic clock from the outside, but there is hidden camera behind the twelve o' clock hand. At the end of 2005, the police installed another monitoring device. The police often handcuffed Falun Gong practitioners onto the iron bed and beat them. Practitioners who go on hunger strike will be thrown onto the floor and force-fed by the police.

The rooms to the two sides of the iron gates on the first floor are used specifically to persecute practitioners. Practitioners are tied onto the iron bed. The prison doctor, Cao Yujie, policeman Chen Bin, and other staff forcibly inject drugs and force feed practitioners. They also use the so-called death bed torture. The head of the Second Women's Station, Su Jing, called the torture, "special treatment." Practitioners will be tied onto the iron bed for one month or several months. They are not allowed to get up even when they want to go to the bathroom. In 2005, practitioner Jiang Guiyun, from Dalian City, was tied onto the "death bed" for five months and ten days. Practitioner Teng Shiyun from Anshan City was tied onto the "death bed" for more than one month. Practitioner Di Li from Dalian City and others had also gone through the torture of the "death bed."

Photo Four: Layout of the second floor of the Second Women's Station. The light yellow region indicates the detention cells, where they persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The arrangements of the rooms on the second, third, and fourth floors, are similar. The second floor is the 1st Group. The third floor is the 2nd Group and the fourth is the 3rd Group. Apart from normal detention cells, there are also storerooms, toilets, interrogation rooms, corridors, and staff offices and staff toilets. The police also use these places to persecute practitioners.

Photo Five: Photo of the main building where the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp police officers persecute practitioners.

In 2004, practitioner Meng Guiqiu from Jinzhou City was detained in the staff restroom and tortured for more than forty days for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. In mid-April 2005, practitioner Xu Qingyan from Jinzhou City, was asked to go to the head office of the 1st Group. The police Li Mingyu, and Xie Chengdong then beat Xu Qingyan. Xu Qingyan was later handcuffed to the gas pipe for fourteen hours. His face was beaten until swollen and his life was in danger.

In 2005, practitioner Zhu Yun from Hulu Island was locked in an interrogation room for several months. The prison doctor Cao Xujie and Chen Bin injected a large amount of drugs and force-fed Zhu Yun. The long tube was inserted into Zhu Yun's stomach for a long period of time, which has resulted in an infection in his stomach and internal bleeding. Yet the prison doctors covered up Zhu Yun's condition and continued to persecute him.

In May 2005, practitioner Qiu Li from Fushun City was detained several times in the "triangular storeroom" of the 1st Group. Qiu Li was also violently force-fed by the guards.
