Mr. Zhao Wenshan, 45, is from Angxi District, Qiqihar City. He began Falun Gong practice in August 1997. After the persecution began in July 1999, Shang Jian (male) and Zhao Zhonghua (male), officers from Xinjian Police Station in Angxi District, frequently called in to harass and monitor him. In 2002, Mr. Zhao's son explained Falun Gong's righteousness in one of his compositions at school. As a result, all four family members were taken to Xinjian Police Station. Mr. Zhao and his wife, who is also a practitioner, were transferred to the 2nd Detention Center of Qiqihar City. Both of their children, who are practitioners, too, were detained in their school for five days and deprived of sleep.
On October 23, 2003, Mr. Zhao was taken into custody by officers from Xinjian Police Station for hanging Falun Gong scrolls. After escaping from the police station, he was forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution.
On April 5, 2006, he was taken into custody at his job by Nanpu Road Police Station in Qiqihar City. In the police station, officer Ma Chongzhe and Li Long subjected him to all kinds of cruel torture. Consequently, his left arm and his legs were fractured and he developed widespread edema. His legs were torn up, and the the wounds in his flesh gaped open. He could not walk on his own.
One week later, he was taken to the 1st Detention Center in Qiqihar City. During his detention, the authorities of Tiefeng District Court secretly sentenced him to prison. On January 28, 2007, he was transferred to Tailai Prison for further persecution. In the prison, he was deprived of sleep, locked in a small cell (1), beaten, stripped and fixed to a cross, and soaked in water for several days.

(1) Small cell - The detainee is locked up alone in
a very small cell. The guards handcuff the practitioner's hands behind
his back in a fixed position in which the practitioner can neither move
nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. A
barrel in the cell serves for human waste. Only half of a regular meal
is served during the daytime. Rats run about at night. The stench in
the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe.

Three Young Practitioners Were Given Heavy Sentences
At around 9:00 a.m. on November 2, 2006, Guangan City Deputy Mayor Yu Yi and Guangan City National Security Team Head Luo led over 20 police officers from Guangan City and Huaying City to arrest Ms. Ding Yurong, Mr. Zeng Geping, and Xiang Lin in their rented house at Huaying City Seed Company. Ms. Ding Yuerong is a former teacher at the Baishi Township Elementary School, Zeng Geping is a retired serviceman from Daishi Township, and Xiang Lin formerly worked at Huarong City Qujiang Cement Factory.
The police confiscated four notebook computers, printers, a CD copying machine, printing materials, 40,000 yuan in cash, and a bank passbook worth over 100,000 yuan. They kept the computers and cash for themselves. They also attempted to force the practitioners to reveal the code for the bank passbook, but failed.
Following Ms. Ding Yuerong and Mr. Zeng Geping's arrest, the police feared exposure of their crimes. They hid the practitioners in a secret location in Huarong City for a long time. They also did this to try to extort a confession. Xiang Lin was on a hunger strike to protest the illegal arrest. The Huarong City officers secretly transferred him without a trial to the Gaoping District Chuanzhong Prison Hospital in Nanchong City, where he was held from December 13, 2006, to March 8, 2007.
On the morning of August 8, 2007, the police went to the Township Xiexing Court to hold a secret session to hear this case. Court head Du deprived the practitioners of their right to a defense and carelessly heard the case, which angered people in the public gallery. The crowd said that Falun Gong practitioners are good people and demanded that the court officials release the practitioner at once.
Recently, Guangan City officials secretly sentenced Mr. Zeng Geping and Xiang Lin to seven years in prison and Ms. Ding Yuerong to six years in prison.
2. Nine Practitioners from Wusheng County Were Sentenced to Forced Labor
At 3:00 a.m. on September 6, 2007, Wusheng County National Security Team personnel Xia Zhongming, Chen Zhiping, and Lin Chen broke into practitioners' homes, attempting to arrest them. The officials also ransacked their homes. Some practitioners did not open their doors. The officials destroyed the security door to break into the practitioners' homes to arrest them.
More than ten practitioners from Wusheng County were arrested that same morning. Most of the arrested practitioners were 60 to 70 years old. The police took them to the Guangan City or County Detention Center and held them illegally. The practitioners were taken to the Old Armed Forces Department Brainwashing Center in Huarong City in early October.
Other practitioners never stopped exposing the evildoings. This resulted in the closure of the brainwashing center in late October. The police secretly sentenced practitioners Liu Yougui, Liu Gaoju, Yu Jianming, Doctor Cai, Huang Chaofeng, Yu Xinfei, Duan Shiying, Li Yuzhen, and Tang Zhong to prison and forced labor without observing any legal procedures.
3. Mr. Huang Xueyi from Linshui County Arrested, His Home Ransacked, and His Personal Belongings Stolen
On October 17, 2007, elderly practitioner Huang Xueyi from Linshui County went to Liangban Village to distribute truth-clarification materials. Local CCP officials arrested him. That night, personnel from the County National Security Team ransacked his home and confiscated Falun Gong books and other materials, two necklaces, and a pair of earrings that his daughter-in-law left in his care.
Mr. Huang is currently being held at Linshui County Detention Center, leaving his wife and two or three-year-old granddaughter to live in anguish.
