  • Ms. Yu Cuilan Is Held in Heizuizi Women's Prison,  Her Life in Danger

On December 23, 2006, police officers from Changchun City sent practitioner Ms. Yu Cuilan, who was very thin and almost paralyzed from torture, to Heizuizi Women's Prison in Jilin Province.

On the morning of May 19, 2006, the National Security Group of Changchun City Police Department illegally arrested Ms. Yu near the Caishen Market Building. They tortured her in an attempt to extract information. Due to the torture, Ms. Yu became disabled and suffered heart failure.

Although Ms. Yu's life was in great danger, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court held two trials against her. She was carried into the court each time. During the first trial, the police had to give her oxygen and medicine. Without allowing her to speak one word, the court sentenced her to ten years in prison.

Ms. Yu started the appeal process to the middle court, but before she even sent in her documents the middle court held a trial against her. While she was preparing the appeal, she was arrested and sent to Heizuizi Women's Prison in Jilin Province on December 23, 2006.

When Ms. Yu was sent to the prison, some prison guards even said that she was pitiful because she was so thin and almost paralyzed.

The Persecution of Falun Gong by Licheng District 610 Office Agents in Jinan City, Shandong Province

Agents in Licheng District 610 Office in Jinan City, Shandong Province have followed the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and ruthlessly persecuted Falun Gong practitioners during the past several years. They illegally arrested and detained many practitioners, sent practitioners to brainwashing centers, ransacked their homes, incited hatred against them, followed the practitioners, and sentenced them to forced labor and prison terms. Many happy families have been broken up and many practitioners have suffered tremendously.

Licheng District Police Department in Jinan City, located at No. 57 North Shanda Road, Jinan City. Licheng District 610 Office is located on the west end, on the third floor of Licheng District Police Department building

Facts of Persecution - Arrest, Ransacking, Deprivation of Freedom

Practitioner Ms. Jia Xiufang was arrested many times for persisting in practicing Falun Gong; her home was ransacked and she was extorted out of money. She left home to avoid further persecution and was later arrested and sent to Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center. She held a hunger strike for more than a week and became very weak. Her husband Mr. Wang Yanwu, in his 70s, who does not practice Falun Gong, went to visit her at the brainwashing center but was forbidden to see her. Mr. Wang was devastated by his family's traumatic situation. He suddenly passed away in his hometown in Qufu after returning home. Their daughter and son-in-law were also arrested and detained. Many people were concerned with Ms. Jia Xiufang's plight and that of her family members. Her story was published several times on the Minghui website. The Jinan City 610 Office agents released Ms. Jia on March 18, 2005 due to public pressure.

Ms. Jia Xiufang, 54, is a retired worker from Licheng District General Chemical Fiber Corporation in Jinan City. She suffered from numerous illnesses but became completely healthy in 1995 when she started practicing Falun Gong and had a happy family. After the CCP began persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Jia's home was ransacked twice because she persisted in her belief. In early July 2001 she was arrested for saying, "I'll continue to practice [Falun Gong]!" and was sent to the Guodian Brainwashing Center in Jinan City, where she was held for three months and extorted out of more than 10,000 yuan. She was reported to the authorities and again arrested at 10:00 p.m. on October 28, 2002. She was locked in a metal cage at the Dongfeng Police Department for about two weeks. 610 Office agents attempted to send her to a forced labor camp but the labor camp refused to accept her because she didn't pass the physical exam. She was taken back to the Dongfeng Police Station and again locked in a metal cage. It was late fall and she was forced to stand barefoot on the icy concrete floor. She went on a four-day hunger strike but the police still refused to release her. Wang Yuejian, an officer from the Security Section of her former work unit, extorted 3,000 yuan in cash from her while she was held in police custody. He lied to her family and told them she would be released if they gave him money. Ms. Jia later broke free. She chose to live away from home to avoid further persecution. During this period, her and her husband's pensions and benefits were completely cut off.

Ms. Jia's daughter Ms. Jia Jun, who was still nursing her baby, was arrested on the morning of February 22, 2005 when distributing truth-clarification materials. She was taken to the Beiquanfu Police Station. Ms. Jia Xiufang was staying with her daughter st the time to take care of her grandchildren. The 610 Office agents and police officers saw her when they ransacked her daughter's home and arrested her. The authorities also monitored her home near the chemical fiber factory. Ms. Jia Jun clarified the truth during her detention and was later released because she had a newborn infant. The 610 Office agents ignored Ms. Jia Xiufang's old age and poor health. She had coronary artery disease at that time and high blood pressure. They sent her to the Jinan City Brainwashing Center, disguised as the "Jinan Legal Training Center" in Liuchangshan, Jinan City. They claimed that Licheng District 610 Office and the police had tried in 2001 to send Ms. Jia Xiufang and some other practitioners to a brainwashing center. Ms. Jia lived away from home for several years in order to avoid arrest.

Ms. Jia Xiufang held a hunger strike for about two weeks after being sent to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center and became very weak. Her husband Mr. Wang Yanwu went to the center on March 4, 2005 and requested to meet with her, but his request was denied. Mr. Wang was devastated and he grew quiet. He returned to his hometown in Qufu and passed away suddenly when he was alone at home. His son and daughter-in-law found his body on the bed several days later. Before his death, he was physically fit and mentally healthy. He fully supported his wife's Falun Gong practice, both emotionally and financially, after he learned the facts about Falun Gong.

After Ms. Jia was sent to the brainwashing center, her daughter Ms. Jia Jun went to the police, the 610 Office, the Politics and Law Committee on various levels, as well as the brainwashing center. She told the officials that good is rewarded and evildoing is punished. She demanded her mother's immediate release so that she could go home and take care of her husband's funeral. The Jinan City 610 Office agents avoided Jia Jun. Licheng District Police 610 Office head Zhang Wenyuan and Wang Sijun, head of Licheng District government 610 Office, refused to release Ms. Jia Xiufang. Zhang Shunian, deputy secretary of Licheng District Politics and Law Committee, refused to release Jia Xiufang and verbally assaulted her. He spread rumors that Ms. Jia Xiufang didn't get along with her husband. Zhang Shunian also colluded with the Jinan City 610 Office brainwashing center. They did everything to keep Ms. Jia Xiufang's husband's death from her to avoid legal consequences. They even forbade her to answer phone calls from her family. Ms. Jia Jun had to have her uncle help her with her father's funeral in Qufu.

When Ms. Jia Jun returned to Jinan City, she went back to the brainwashing center with her uncle and again asked to see her mother. The officials refused, and when Ms. Jia Jun tried to reason with the officials, her mother, who was held on the floor above, heard her voice and poked her head out the window. Ms. Jia Jun saw her mother and shouted in a teary voice, "Mom, Dad is dead!" Ms. Jia Xiufang could not believe her ears and asked twice. Ms. Jia Jun shouted the same thing three times. Her pained voice echoed throughout the courtyard. Ms. Jia Xiufang was devastated. In the end, the brainwashing center reluctantly agreed to let Ms. Jia Jun's uncle meet briefly with Ms. Jia Xiufang, who was extremely weak from the hunger strike and sudden grief. People were concerned about her and her family. Her story was published on the Minghui website several times. Jinan City 610 Office agents released her on March 18 due to public pressure. Her son carried her home on his back.

Ms. Jia's son-in-law Wang Fengqiang was arrested on August 23, 2006 when distributing truth-clarification VCDs at Donghuan World Square, located at No. 3966, East Erhuan Road in Jinan City. He was taken to the Dongfeng Police Station in Licheng District, Jinan City. Officials from his workplace and from Licheng District 610 Office sent him to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center at 9:00 p.m. that evening.

Mr. Wang Fengqiang was born in 1973 in Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province. He was a technician in charge of building electrical equipment at Shandong Province Prison. He conducted himself according to the principles of Falun Gong at all times and was well liked at work. His superiors began persecuting him after April 25, 1999, when 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners peacefully appealed in Beijing. The officials talked to him, trying to persuade him to renounce Falun Gong. They put him in detention for a long time, sent him to a brainwashing center, extorted a huge sum of money from him in the name of a fine, and fired him. He never once wavered in his belief. He was held in a labor camp for three years, from 2000 to 2002. Due to strong requests from his colleagues, his former workplace, Shandong Province Prison, re-hired him in 2003 as a contract worker responsible for electric machine production and sales.

He refused to go along with the brainwashing after the arrest. He broke free on August 30, 2005 during a physical exam at Jinan City Chest Hospital. He decided to stay away from home to avoid arrest; however, he is the family's sole breadwinner. His arrest made life more difficult for his family.

Persecution of innocent and kind people at the Jinan Iron & Steel General Corporation

Before the persecution started in 1999, many employees at the Jinan Iron & Steel General Corporation practiced Falun Gong. After July 20, 1999, company officials at all levels, headed by general manager Li Changshun, the police and 610 Office agents, spared no persecution efforts. According to one estimate, at least 14 company employees and their family members who are Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced to forced labor over the past seven years, and at least 11 employees were arrested or sent to brainwashing centers since 2005 for practicing Falun Gong.

Company officials ordered practitioner Mr. Liu Sitang, a retiree in his 60s, to attend a brainwashing session aimed at "maintaining the advancement of Communist Party members." Mr. Liu said, "I have already quit the Party. What advancement is there to maintain?" Kou Xinggong, the Party secretary, and Jiang Xian, head of the Security Section, led about seven police officers and deceived Mr. Liu into opening his door. They then they barged inside and ransacked his home. Mr. Liu made his way out without encountering the officials. Other practitioners including Wang Jinping, Xie Aiying, Qin Xianji, and Li Hongying were taken away and held, awaiting trial without parole. Practitioner Ms. Xie Aiying, in her late 60s, is a retiree from the Jinan Iron & Steel General Corporation Hospital. She was sentenced to three years of forced labor in 2000 and held at the notorious Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Mr. Liu was deceived and arrested by his superiors in March 2006. He was held at the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center for eight months. Licheng District 610 Office agents and Baoshan District Police Department officials colluded with Licheng District Procuratorate and court. They extended Mr. Liu's detention period by three months. They tried him on December 4, 2006. The evidence, however, came from the testimony of a prisoner serving an active term, which could not be verified in court. The judge did not issue a sentence.

Technical expert repeatedly persecuted through labor camp

Practitioner Zang Xiyong was a middle-level official at the Shandong Province Cotton & Flax Company. He was detained at the Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp between 2000 and 2002 for persisting in his belief and was demoted when he returned to work. In order to make him renounce Falun Gong, his superiors paid him only 300 yuan in seven months in 2005. Mr. Zang is well liked. He and his wife have taken care of his brother's two children since his brother and his wife's death. They are guardians for four children including their own two. One of the four children is grown and working and three are still in middle school. Mr. Zang and his wife also take care of his mother, who is in her 70s.

Mr. Zang was arrested on December 9, 2006 by police officers from Caishi Township and held at Licheng District Detention Center. Yuan Guiying, head of the office from his work unit, led 12 police officers to ransack his home on the afternoon of December 13, 2006. Licheng District 610 Office head Yuan Guiying deceived his family into opening the door, first threatening his family and then faking kindness. After they rummaged through everything but failed to find anything they wanted, they insisted on taking the children's computer. When the family refused, the officials lied and claimed they were taking the computer to the city police department for an identification test, and if the result came out okay, the family would get it back by signing a list of confiscated items. The family believed the police and signed the document, but the officials never fulfilled their promise, and without the family's knowledge, they later stole the evidence - the copy of the signed document that they had left for the family.

Licheng District 610 Office agents told the family to sign another document on December 20, 2006. When the family arrived, they were confronted with a document that listed obscure charges filed against Mr. Zang. The family refused to sign and confronted the officials about the confiscated items and fabrication of charges without the knowledge of Mr. Zang's workplace superiors. The family cited relevant sections from the Constitution, Criminal Law, and Civil Law and Regulations on Reeducation Through Labor. The officials could not refute the family. Licheng District 610 Office agents couldn't get any evidence against Mr. Zang, but they still arbitrarily sentenced him to 18 months of forced labor on December 21, 2006. When his family visited him at the 7th Group of Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, the officials refused to let them see him, saying, "You cannot meet with anyone who has not "reformed"!" The family could not even deliver things to Mr. Zang.

Financial reward for reporting Falun Gong practitioners

The officials from Licheng District 610 Office in Jinan City pay people to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. All street Party Committees in Licheng District received orders from the 610 Office to assign personnel to monitor practitioners around the clock. People assigned to do this work receive varying amounts of money every month. The 610 Office also highly publicized a scheme that says one would receive a reward of between 1,000 and 2,000 yuan for reporting a practitioner.

In the past few years, many villagers brainwashed by Communist Party propaganda have reported practitioners. These practitioners' homes were ransacked and their property confiscated. They were extorted out of money in the name of fines and were sent to brainwashing centers, where they were forced to pay a high "brainwashing fee." Some practitioners were sent to prisons and forced labor camps.

Two middle-aged female practitioners were reported in January 2005 when distributing truth-clarification materials in a persimmon garden in Dongjia Town. Licheng District 610 Office agents and officers from the Dongjia Police Station took them to the Liuchangshan Brainwashing Center. Each practitioner was extorted out of 3,000 yuan and charged an additional 100 yuan a day as a "brainwashing fee." The officials announced on the 25th day of detention that the practitioners had been sentenced to 18 months of forced labor. The practitioners were transferred to Jiangshuiquan Labor Camp to be further persecuted.

The 610 Office agents also impose fines on village management if practitioners live there. The fines vary from 1,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan, depending on the affluence of the village. These villages are also deprived of eligibility to win honorary titles. The two aforementioned female practitioners lived in Hancang. Licheng District 610 Office agents fined the Hancang Village Party Committee 6,000 yuan in order to incite hatred toward and put pressure on Falun Gong practitioners.

Below are the stories of Falun Gong practitioners from Licheng District who were persecuted after being reported:

76-year-old Ms. Zhu Yuezhen sentenced to three years in prison

Practitioner Ms. Zhu Yuezhen, 76, from Jinan City, lived at a military sanatorium that is a residence compound for retired military officers near a railway hospital. She used to suffer from numerous illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis and stomach ulcers. One week after she started practicing Falun Gong in March 1995, the pain stopped, and all of her illnesses disappeared after six months. She then obtained good eyesight and hearing from Falun Gong practice.

Ms. Zhu went to Erxian Village, Zhonggong, Jinan City on September 27, 2004 to clarify the truth and distribute truth-clarification materials. Officers from the Zhonggong Police Station arrested her. She was interrogated inside the police station, and all of her fliers and VCDs were confiscated. In the afternoon, the police took her to the Xiqinglong Police Station and held her there for one night. They sent her to the Jinan City Legal Training (Brainwashing) Center at 9:00 a.m. on September 28, 2004. She was held on the third floor and was forbidden to go downstairs to eat. She was locked behind a metal gate and had to ask someone to open the gate in order to use the restroom. They extorted 3,000 yuan from her. Officers from the Zhongqu Police Department ransacked her home and took her phone card and senior card.

Several months later, at noon on May 4, 2005, police officers working at the Jinan Arboretum saw Ms. Zhu clarifying the truth and distributing materials inside the garden and called 110 Emergency Response; as a result, police officers were dispatched. They arrested her and took her to the Qianfoshan Police Station and held her there for 24 hours. They ransacked her home the next day at noon and took all of her Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Zhu was held at the district police department, where Party officials threatened that they would make her husband divorce her, cut off her pension and evict her from the military sanatorium.

The police also verbally assaulted Ms. Zhu and arrested her several times when she clarified the truth in Jinan City and in the suburban areas. For instance, the police arrested her on December 1, 2005 when she was clarifying the truth in the Tianqiao District. They sent her to the Jinan City Detention Center and sentenced her to three years in prison before the 2006 Chinese New Year.

Liu Ruiqiu persecuted for clarifying the truth

Practitioner Ms. Liu Ruiqiu was arrested and detained many times for appealing for Falun Gong and clarifying the truth. She was shocked in the chest with electric batons and brutally beaten; her home was ransacked and personal belongings confiscated. She is currently held at the Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City, where she is being tortured.

Ms. Liu is a retiree from the Jinan Semi-Conductor Research Institute. In 1985, she was afflicted with numerous illnesses. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and quickly recovered her full health. Falun Gong gave her a new life.

Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal during the 2000 Chinese New Year and was arrested and detained at the Keyuan Road Police Station in Lixia District. The head of the police station at the time, Zhang Guisheng, tortured her during detention. Zhang Guisheng shocked Ms. Liu's chest with electric batons continuously for nearly one hour, making her lose consciousness for the rest of the night. Several days later, she was extorted out of 5,000 yuan and released. Zhang Guisheng was later punished for persecuting innocent and good people. He developed stomach cancer and suffered greatly.

Before the 2001 Chinese New Year, security officials at Ms. Liu Ruiqiu's workplace feared she would again go to Beijing to appeal. They called her to the workplace and told her to sign a guarantee statement that slandered Falun Gong. She refused. Security Section head Guo and officers from the Keyuan Road Police Station sent her to the Monitored Ward at the Shandong Province Police Hospital and held her there for seven months. She persisted in her righteous belief during this period, and the officials took her back to the brainwashing center. Several people beat her for hours at the brainwashing center. She sustained injuries all over her body. They also choked her, and she passed out from lack of air. The officials then took her back to the Monitored Ward at the Shandong Province Police Hospital. After a while, when they saw she still would not give up her belief, they sent her to the Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labor Camp and ordered collaborators to torture her. The collaborators physically and mentally attacked her until she was close to death. The officials were exhausted but still could not make Ms. Liu renounce Falun Gong, so they released her after deducting one year's pension.

Ms. Liu was arrested again at the end of October 2003 when clarifying the truth at a market in Licheng District. She was taken to Licheng District 610 Office brainwashing center, where she clarified the truth about the health benefits of Falun Gong from her personal experience. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The agents at the 610 Office didn't achieve their goal of "reforming" her, so they took her keys and ransacked her home. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, recorders, MP3 players and 4,000 yuan in cash. They released her after they found cash at her home.

Ms. Liu was reported and arrested once more on May 15, 2006 when clarifying the truth to vegetable vendors at a market. Wang Decheng and other officers from Shunyu Road Police Station in Shizhong District took her to the police station. Later on they joined officers from the Keyuan Road Police Station. About nine officers took her to her home and ransacked it. They took all of her Falun Gong books, MP3 players, some valuables and bank deposit slips after they had photographed these items. One week later, officers from Shunyu Road Police Station sent her to the Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labor Camp and confiscated her bank deposit slips. Her family asked for them back, but the officials refused to return them. The camp guards have forbidden family visits.

Practitioners who were persecuted after being reported by people deceived by the 610 Office

According to an estimate, since 2004, the following practitioners were persecuted after being reported by people who were brainwashed and deceived by agents from Licheng District 610 Office: Song Yanchen from Shilihe, Lixia District; Yan Yu, a teacher at the No. 34 Middle School; Guo Piling, Tian Suqin, Han Xiuzhen, Zhang Xiangzhen, Su Xiaoqing, Wang Haogui from the rural Licheng District; Lu Yongfang, Fan Kuifen, Han Guifang, Fan Lanying who worked at the Jinan Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd; Chen Xinnian, a resident of the Hongwan Neighborhood Area in Honglou Town; Hou Yumei, Wang Yunling from Wangsheren Town, Licheng District; Zhang Wenzhong from Zhudian Village, Licheng District.

Brainwashing, threats and extortion in brainwashing center

Licheng District Politics and Law Committee persecutors and agents from the 610 Office in Jinan City had a big hand in the persecution between 1999 and 2001. They set up a brainwashing center at the Guodian School of Sports Competition in the summer of 2001. They sent to the center everyone known to be a Falun Gong practitioner by the street Party Committee and the local police, which caused numerous practitioners tremendous financial and emotional trauma. The practitioners are deprived of personal freedom, and they are constantly physically tortured and mentally tormented at the center.

Some practitioners were savagely beaten and otherwise physically abused for refusing to "reform." Some practitioners had to scrape together money from everywhere in order to pay the "fines" the authorities had imposed. Some practitioners were further transferred to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, the Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp and the Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Around 2000, many practitioners from Licheng District were sent to the Huixianshan Brainwashing Center in Xiuchuan Township, Licheng District. 610 Office agents ordered workplaces to assign people to monitor the practitioners at the brainwashing center. A security chief at the Jinan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. once threatened an elderly female practitioner who has a crippled leg, "If you don't reform, I'll break your good leg!"

Practitioner Ms. Jia Xiufang, a retiree from the Jinan Chemical Fiber Factory, said in early July 2001, "I'll continue to practice [Falun Gong]!" She was sent to the Guodian Brainwashing Center in Jinan City, where she was held for three months and extorted out of more than 10,000 yuan.

Practitioner Ms. Ji Guangli, 44, worked at the Jinan Electricity Meter Factory. She appealed in Beijing in July 2000 and was detained for 15 days. This was followed by a three-month incarceration at the Guodian Brainwashing Center, ordered by Licheng District 610 Office agents in October 2000. During this period, she was hung up and savagely beaten.

Practitioner Ms. Liu Hongmei was secretly tried by agents at the 1st Court in Lixia District, Jinan City on April 26, 2003 and sentenced to seven years in prison. She recounted abuses at the brainwashing center in her statement of appeal:

"The detention center authorities made me sign a release statement on November 24, 2000, but didn't let me go home. Because I did not "reform," immediately after I signed the document, officials from Lixia District Party Committee and from the district government sent me to the Guodian Brainwashing Center located at the Guodian School of Sports Competition in Licheng District. I was completely deprived of personal freedom, and they extorted funds from my family three times for living expenses, in the amounts of 10,000 yuan, 5,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan. Living in prison-like conditions, I was charged 100 yuan a day at the brainwashing center. A group of young men wearing camouflage uniforms monitored us 24/7. They would barge inside our bedroom at any time during the day or night and even yanked off our quilts to check if we were doing the Falun Gong meditation. We lived in constant fear and had no rights. We were often severely attacked, both verbally and physically, which left physical and mental scars."

The Police Arrest People and Ransack Homes; A Mother Loses Her Daughter Again

On February 15, 2007, a police car stopped at the building next to the Xiangyang Market of Chuanying District, where Ms. Wang Liqiu's mother lives. At around 4 pm, three to four plainclothes policemen knocked on the door of Ms. Wang Liqiu's home, saying they were there to "check the water meter." The family said that the water meter had just been checked, so they didn't let them in. Then the police claimed that they were delivering something, but the family saw through it again and didn't open the door.

Ms. Wang Liqiu, a Falun Gong practitioner, hasn't returned since she left home at around 4 pm on February 13. Her family members started to look for her since they were told that some people were arrested, fearing she might be one of them. They tried the Xiangyang Police Station, the National Security Team of the Jilin City Police Department, the Chuanying Branch Police Department, the Jilin City Detention Center and the 610 Office of Jilin City. Finally they learned that Wang Liqiu was being held at the Jilin City Detention Center. But when they went there, nobody took charge of her case. The "610 Office" claimed that it was the Jilin City Police Department's case. Her family members called the department but nobody answered the phone; they were denied a chance to meet with anyone, as well. Some kind insiders told them that the Changyi National Security Team was in charge, so the family called them, but nobody would acknowledge her presence.

Wang's mother Su, 74 years old, used to have a happy family. Her oldest daughter Wang Liqiu and her youngest daughter practiced Falun Gong and benefited the whole family. After the persecution started in 1999, the two daughters went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, but they were arrested and sent to forced labor camps. The youngest daughter was released when they persecuted her to the brink of death, and Ms. Wang Liqiu was also reduced to skin and bones when they released her. In the past eight years, Ms. Su's family has never been whole.

In July 2005, officers from the State Security Bureau of Jilin City harassed the youngest daughter, which forced her to leave home in order to avoid arrest. In September 2005, the work unit of the youngest daughter was forced to lay her off, and on December 13, 2005, she was arrested by agents from the State Security Bureau. The entire family did everything they could and managed to get the youngest daughter back home after a month.

Ms. Su has been through all kinds of suffering in her life, but she didn't expect that upon the arrival of this Chinese New Year, her daughter Wang Liqiu would be arrested again. The police were planning to ransack her home after getting in with the excuse of "checking the water meter." When the police are the ones responsible for the persecution, where can she go to appeal and find justice?

Ms. Su requests that people from around the world pay attention to the persecution in China, to condemn the CCP's atrocities, to stop this persecution that has lasted for 8 years, and to help rescue all the innocent practitioners in China.

The Darkness Behind the "Civilization" at the Women's Prison of Guangdong Province

The Women's Prison of Guangdong  Province is alleged to be the most "civilized and advanced" under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice of China, but this prison is the epitome of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which was born of lies.

At the prison, the 4th Ward takes the lead in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Every practitioner that is sent to the prison is initially placed in the 4th Ward. The 610 Office and Ward Chief Yi Lihong lead a modern day Gestapo to torture practitioners. They induce, encourage and allow criminal inmates to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They have adopted the following methods of persecution and torture: deceit, threats, brainwashing, starvation, forcing practitioners to stand, sit or squat motionless for long periods of time, monitoring practitioners twenty-four hours a day, sleep deprivation, electric shocks, denying or limiting toilet usage, not allowing practitioners to buy daily necessities including sanitary napkins, not allowing practitioners to shower, and forcing practitioners to give up their beliefs until they are "transformed." Many practitioners were tortured so severely that they fell into bad health were forced to tell lies. Some of them have developed mental problems, and some have been left in critical condition.

Many steadfast practitioners, including Chen Jing, Zhong Yang, Zeng Qing, Zhou Meilin, Yan Hongzhuan, Han Yuejuan, Li Xiaoqiu, Ye Xiaojie, Xie Kunxiang, Deng Hui, Yuan Xiaolin, Yang Xiaolan, Wu Peifen, Li Meiping, Chen Chunli, Ma Meichan, and others have been continuously attacked, abused, threatened and denounced day and night. The guards and criminals use indecent language to attack the founder of Falun Gong and practitioners.

On the surface, the women's prison looks like an orderly and modern school. "Humanitarian management" is an often-used slogan, but it hasn't changed the practitioners' situation for the better at all. When there are visitors, all the prison personnel get very nervous and the food is suddenly much better, but Falun Gong practitioners under "strict management" are monitored even more strictly. They aren't allowed to leave their cells. Sometimes they are hidden in the workshop. Those practitioners who have not been "reformed" are not allowed to participate in outdoor exercises on holidays.

There is a special cell on each of the four floors of the 4th Ward with a sign reading "conversation room." The so-called conversation rooms are dark. They are used to confine practitioners in solitary cells and brainwash them. The 610 Office has televisions in the conversation rooms on the second, third and fourth floors. There are many slanderous cartoons and images on the windows, doors and walls in the rooms.

Many practitioners are inhumanly tortured in the conversation rooms. Ye Xiaojie, Xie Kunxiang and Yang Xiaolan were tortured so severely that they were driven to insanity. Cries, curses, the sounds of beatings, and the knocking down of tables and stools are often heard coming from these rooms. Zeng Qing, Zhou Meilin, Yan Hongzhi, Han Tongjuan, Li Xiaoqiu, Xie Kunxiang, Deng Hui, Yuan Xiaolin, Chen Chunli, Yang Xiaolan, Wu Peifen, Li Meiping, and other practitioners have all been isolated in these rooms and tortured separately, and they've been deprived of sleep for long periods of time.

Practitioner Zeng Qing from Zhuhai City wrote a letter to expose the torture and persecution in the 4th Ward, but the correction officers colluded with inmates and fabricated false evidence to frame Zeng Qing, and were thereby able to foil the procurators' subsequent investigation. The officers and inmates took revenge on Zeng Qing and tortured her even more severely.

Prison officials often speak about humanitarian management, and organize holiday performances. These special performances are most deceptive. They force Falun Gong practitioners to learn other forms of qigong or dances. The officials do this in an attempt to cover up the true nature of the forced brainwashing. Most of the "reformed" practitioners relapse into sickness and are left in a very bad state.

In order to cover up the condition of the "reformed" practitioners, 610 Office personnel often secretly give them extra food and other inconsequential comforts, like rented DVDs or extra time to exercise outdoors, walk or play basketball. When other hard labor inmates see this they say, "Look how well these Falun Gong practitioners are treated! We've been here for a long time and we've never enjoyed such good treatment!" Those prisoners are in the workshops all day long; they have no idea that the Falun Gong practitioners are secretly tortured. How could they know that the reason the officers act this way is to fool the practitioners and keep them off guard in order to "transform" them?

The officials use all these tricks to deceive the outside world. They want to destroy the practitioners' wills and completely brainwash them. They put practitioners in a miserable state that they consider worse than death. Their purpose is to create fear so that they can prolong their tyranny.

In the 4th Ward, there is a rule that anyone can bully and torture practitioners at will. The criminals who monitor practitioners often purposely find fault with them. They torture practitioners to vent to their bad feelings. Every practitioner has suffered attacks and humiliation.

Practitioners are persecuted in every way imaginable, even withheld access to the restroom. Those who are given the task of monitoring practitioners enjoy many privileges. For example, they don't have to go to the cafeteria for meals. They get to eat early. They are also allowed hot water for showers and they get to wash their clothes before everyone else. They don't have to work and they can sleep in their beds whenever they want. They get food that can't be found in prison, and they aren't punished for violating regulations. They even get their sentences reduced. That's why these criminals will do anything for the authorities. They beat and starve practitioners. They monitor practitioners twenty-four hours a day and record their words and actions. They routinely make false reports and frame practitioners, provoking even harsher treatment from the authorities. They enjoy the practitioners' suffering. They often say, "We have far too many ways to deal with people like you. It's too easy to torture you to death. If you won't listen to us, see what we can do? We'll write the central government and ask them to shoot you. Shooting is too good for you. Just watch us torture you to death." The officers enjoy watching the prisoners persecute the practitioners.

The inmates monitor everything the practitioners do, and they are allowed to decide what practitioners can or can't do. They can even decide whether practitioners can use the toilet or drink water. They forbid everyone to speak to practitioners or show sympathy. Anyone who supports practitioners is reported and punished.

The 610 Office personnels and inmates do everything they can to force practitioners to write the Three Statements, "Four Statements" and "Five Statements," as required, and they endlessly revise the statements. They tell practitioners to write their "reform statement" as lengthy and as detailed as possible, and require them to write more than ten pages. They also require practitioners to use plain language to write their statements so they'll sound natural and believable. When they teach others to tell lies, they ask them to pay special attention to the details. They say the more detailed the better; details can move people's hearts and remove any doubts, especially when the supervisors try to ascertain whether the practitioners have been truly "reformed" or not. If the practitioners' statements don't meet their standards, they threaten them and force them to study and be brainwashed all over again, until their statements are up to the standard. They force practitioners to sing songs that praise the CCP. They even force the "reformed" Falun Gong practitioners to smile. Otherwise, the supervisors will think that they haven't really been "reformed." If they fail to comply in some way, the practitioners are forced to return to the conversation rooms. Head Warden Zhang Zhiping, Director Liu, and Director Zheng of the 610 Office interview and test each of those who has finished writing the statements. The content of those conversations are more slander against Falun Gong. Once they're satisfied that a practitioner has met the standard, they send her to one of the other wards to finish the "Five Statements." They also force the "reformed" practitioners to publicly denounce Falun Gong in front of all the inmates. The process is filmed and recorded. Then they force the "reformed" ones to participate in an intensive two-month "study session." The study session is another type of severe psychological persecution. The schedule is arranged so tightly that practitioners have no chance to exchange looks or messages on paper slips. They make sure that the "reformed" practitioners don't start practicing again. After the session is over, they force practitioners to give performances portraying "the wonder of reform." Only at this stage do they announce that the "reform" is fully completed.

At the end of each month, all the inmates are infused with "loving the Party" propaganda. They are forced to study a textbook produced at the prison that slanders Falun Gong. There is also a test at the end of each month. The inmates spend a lot of time memorizing the answers. If they fail to pass each test, they can't apply for sentence reductions. Anyone who fails the test is punished with extended work hours or making dozens of hand-written copies of the book.

The persecution suffered by Falun Gong practitioners at the Guangdong Women's Prison is beyond description. Practitioners are strictly monitored. They are segregated and placed in solitary confinement. Other inmates are allowed to speak freely with each other, while Falun Gong practitioners aren't allowed to see or talk to each other. The corrections officers and prison inmates often purposely find fault with practitioners so that they can extend practitioners' sentences. The officers' words and actions are extremely vicious.

None of the practitioners detained at the Guangdong Women's Prison have willingly complied with efforts to "reform" them. Each of the "Five Statements" they've written were given due to extreme pressure and torture, and each one is covered in blood. The officers known that this so-called "reform" doesn't represent the practitioners' true hearts, but they still use deceitful methods in dealing with practitioners. As soon as they feel that they can't achieve their goal, they immediately change tactics, and utilize violence and torture to achieve their goals.

Dongyue District Police Department in Shiyan City, Hubei Province Arrest Falun Gong Practitioners

On October 12, 2006, four policemen from the Dongyue District Police Department in Shiyan Cit, Hubei Province illegally arrested Ms. Wang Houjin, 65 years old, from her home. After the policemen arrested her, they hid in her home, leaving the door unlocked, and arrested another Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Huang Zhiyun when she came visiting. They also stole Ms. Wang Houjin's computer, a DVD player, and over 7,000 yuan in cash.

While Ms. Wang Houjin has been illegally detained, her daughter has requested to see her mother many times, but the prison guards have not let her. Ms. Wang's family have asked the policemen for her belongings many times (the computer, DVD player, and the cash which was her daughter's wedding gift), but have yet to receive anything. When Ms. Wang Houjin's husband, who had been in another city on vacation, saw his home ransacked, he asked where his wife was being held. After extensive negotiation, the police agreed to let him see the back of his wife from a distance; she had no idea he had ever come to visit her.

Ms. Huang Zhiyun's arrest was exposed on the Minghui/Clearwisdom website. After she was brutally beaten and tortured, Ms. Huang Zhiyun was released. The guards immediately started spreading the rumor that Ms. Wang Houjin had also been released and had gone to her son's home, which was in Guangdong Province. It was not until the beginning of February 2007 that local Falun Gong practitioners learned the truth: In fact, Ms. Wang Houjin is still illegally detained in the Hejiagou First Detention Center of Shiyan City Police Department, and she is suffering from abusive treatment.

Ms. Hu Yansheng, a Falun Gong practitioner from Shiyan City, 50, was illegally arrested on January 28, 2007 while she produced truth-clarifying materials near the Fangshan Area. She is now illegally detained in the Dongyue District Police Department of Shiyan City Police Department. The night of her arrest, Section Chief Pi from the Dongyue District Police Department, and Hu Jiugui, Section Chief of the Security Office, Automobile Frame Factory, Dongfeng Corporation, together with others, came to Ms. Hu Yansheng's home and ransacked the place. They took away Falun Gong books and materials. Ms. Hu Yansheng has been arrested three times and sentenced to forced labor twice. Her husband could not endure the attacks. He became sick and is bedridden. There is no one looking after their daughter, who is in junior high school.

Section Chief Pi and Han Jiugui have persecuted Falun Gong practitioners for many years. They have led the police to illegally ransack the homes of Falun Gong practitioners many times.
