Ms. Liu Yurong and her sister were arrested for practicing Falun Gong. The local CCP authorities put her on trail.
Under the guise of protecting the 30-year anniversary of the Big Earthquake and the welcoming of Olympic torch relay, the police arrested over 20 Falun Gong practitioners.
High School Teacher Ms. Liu Yurong Arrested and Put On Trial
Ms. Liu Yurong is from Cuiyan County, Jinzhou, Liaoning Province. On May 29, 2008 she and her sister were illegally arrested by the CCP police for practicing Falun Gong. They were held captive for a month until they were put on trial on July 28. Ms. Liu Yurong denied all of the CCP court's accusations against her. A lawyer asked her whether she wanted to hire a lawyer. To that question Ms. Liu Yurong answered, "If you can enter a plea of 'innocent' for me, I will hire you. If you cannot, there is no need to even talk about it." In the end the trial concluded without any result.
Mr. Liu Yurong, is a 47-year-old politics teacher from Cuiyan County High School of Linghai City. Before she began practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Liu Yurong suffered from a variety of infirmities, including pyelonephritis, gastric ulcer, dizziness, type B hepatitis, and cholecystitis. After practicing for a few days however, all these problems miraculously disappeared. She lives her life according to the principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" and is regarded highly by those who know her.
About 4:00 p.m. on May 29, 2008, Ms. Liu Yurong went to visit her sister Ms. Liu Yuqing. While they were visiting, the heads of the Cuiyan County Police Station, Luo Zhongming and Jin Jingwen broke into Ms. Liu Yuqing's house and interrogated the two. They asked Ms. Liu Yurong why she was in Cuiyan county and whether she still practiced Falun Gong. The police officers demanded that the sisters curse Falun Gong and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, but when they refused, Jin Jingwen brutalized the two and "illegally arrested" them. They were then taken to the Cuiyan County police station where they were further abused.
The head of Cuiyan Police Station, Luo Zhongming, ordered the Domestic Security Team of Linghai City Police Department to send a team to ransack Ms. Liu Yurong's house. On the same night that the sisters were arrested, a squad of police led by Liang Wenfu ransacked Ms. Liu Yurong's house, confiscating her TV, two computers, a printer, a DVD and other valuables worth over 20,000 dollars.
On May 30, Ms. Liu Yurong was sent to the 2nd Detention Center of Jinzhou, while Ms. Liu Yuqing was sent to Linghai Detention Center. She was held there for 15 days. Meanwhile, with her two daughters also incarcerated by the CCP, their 80-year-old mother was left with no one to take care of her.
Recent Arrests of at Least Twenty Falun Gong Practitioners in Tangshan City
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members in Tangshan City, Hebei Province under the guise of protecting the 30-year anniversary of the Big Earthquake and the welcoming of Olympic torch relay on August 4, harassed and intimidated local residents and further persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. Between July 6 and 10 at least twenty Falun Gong practitioners in Tangshan City area were illegally arrested and their homes ransacked.
1. Approximately 14 Practitioners Illegally Arrested in Urban Tangshan
On July 8, Ms. Zhao Yabin was illegally arrested and his home was ransacked.
On the morning of July 10, Ms. Zhang Yueqin and her husband, their daughter Ms. He Yan and son-in-law Mr. Sun Fengli, along with practitioners Ms. Liu Suying and Xiao Hao (altogether eight practitioners) were illegally arrested and their homes ransacked. The police robbed Ms. He of over 600,000 yuan in cash that she had borrowed to start a business.
On the morning of July 10, Tangshan practitioner Li Chunhua, 76 years old, who was originally from Wenzhuang Township of Zunhua City, was illegally arrested by police from both Zunhua City and Tangshan City. Li's spouse, son and several other practitioners at the scene were also arrested.
2. Practitioners from Runfeng District Illegally Arrested and Their Homes Ransacked
On July 10 at around 11:00 a.m., practitioner Zhao Fengcun from Xiaozhanggezhuan Township of Fengrun District, Tangshan City was arrested while he was driving a public transit bus. His home was broken into and ransacked.
On July 10, practitioner Zhao Guowu from Qingtuo Village, Xiaozhanggezhuan Township of Fengrun District, Tangshan City was illegally arrested.
Around 11:00 a.m. on July 10, practitioner Yang Guoguang from Gaotuo Village, Chahe Township of Fengrun District was illegally arrested. His home was broken into and ransacked.
On July 10 at around 5:00 p.m., practitioner Zhang Zongquan from Wanggezhuan Si Village of Chahe Township, Fungrun District was illegally arrested. His home was ransacked.
3. Police in Zunhua City Arrest Practitioners and Ransack Their Homes
On July 6 at around 12:30 p.m., the home of practitioner Zhao Jinjun of Zunhua City was ransacked and he was illegally arrested. This was the fourth time Mr. Zhao was arrested by CCP police. During this latest arrest, the police not only kicked Mr. Zhao's 3-year-old son but they also called the young child a "bastard." The police sprayed mace into the eyes of Mr. Zhao's 10-year-old son, Yang Yang, and Mr. Zhao's mother who is in her 60's. Yang Yang could not open his eyes after being sprayed and rushed to the sink to wash his eyes with water. Even after doing so, his eyes remained red and painful for the entire afternoon.
On July 6 at around 12:30, Zunhua City 610 Office members, along with a dozen policemen from Dongjiuzhai County Police Department, broke into the home of practitioners Mr. Liu Changyou and Ms. Wen Cuiyin in Wenzhuang Village. They ransacked their home for over an hour and then arrested the couple and brought them to Zunhua City.
On July 7, the home of practitioner Wen Ruihua from Wenzhuang Village was ransacked. After being given a list of over a dozen practitioners' names, police from Zunhua City started massive ransacking and illegal arrests in this small village. They made arrests at every household where Falun Gong books and materials were found.
4. Recent Persecution of Practitioners by Leting Police Department
During June and July 2008, police from Leting Police Station illegally ransacked practitioner Ma Lijun's home and put Ms. Ma under secret detention for ten days. They also ransacked practitioner Li Jinku's home and illegally detained Mr. Li.
In early July, practitioner Gu Lijin from Daqinghe Salt Field was called to his work unit and then put under house arrest at his work place. On July 8, Mr. Gu was illegally sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp.
